Lin Tingfeng felt a pang of heartache upon hearing this. He couldn't help but take a step forward, walk up to her, and reach out to embrace her and comfort her. Ye Wenyu, regaining her senses, pushed him away and then hurriedly left.
Lin Tingfeng stood there for a long, long time, as if carved from stone or wood, before he came to his senses.
Ye Wenyu sat in a secluded corner of the hotel for a while. Since every corner of the five-star hotel had genuine leather sofas for guests to rest on, she was able to enjoy some peace and quiet. She used a magazine to cover her face, and after half an hour, when she had calmed down enough and figured the elders in the private room had finished eating, she put down the magazine and went to the room.
She had only taken a few steps when she saw Cai Wenchuan walking towards her. He had a smile on his face and his expression was extremely gentle. Ye Wenyu's face stiffened, and she lowered her head and stood there awkwardly.
The air around us seemed to freeze.
Cai Wenchuan walked up to Ye Wenyu and asked her with concern, "Xiaoyu, where have you been? Your parents are very worried and asked me to come out and look for you."
Ye Wenyu looked up at him. His eyes held a warm smile, like the winter sun. He gazed at her with such deep affection, as if they had just fallen in love. It was as if Cai Wenchuan had returned, as if they had gone back to the time when they first reunited. His eyes and heart were filled only with her—
Seeing him like this, Ye Wenyu felt a mix of emotions, as if a bottle of mixed feelings had been spilled.
At this moment, the rain outside has stopped, the sun is coming out from behind the clouds, the ground is wet, and the trees in the green belt are lush and green.
A breeze blew in from outside, making the air inside the hotel feel refreshed and incredibly clean.
Cai Wenchuan said to her, "Let's go, Xiaoyu. Your parents are getting impatient. I noticed you haven't eaten much. Eat some more, don't go hungry." His voice was as gentle as silk.
Ye Wenyu regained consciousness and glanced at Cai Wenchuan. His tone was gentle, but deep in his eyes was a complex pain that was not easily noticed by others.
Seeing that look in his eyes, Ye Wenyu knew that things were not so simple.
She then recalled the yellowed old photograph she had found in his room, a little girl in a purple sailor uniform, tucked between the pages of a thick book. The photograph was faded and wrinkled, indicating that he often took it out to examine it closely.
Has his inner demons been cured? Has he finally realized that his perfect match is Ye Wenyu? And not Lin Tingyue? No, no, even she herself doesn't believe it.
How can you just forget a girl you've been infatuated with for over ten years?
Lin Tingyue is like the moon in the sky, whom he loves but cannot have, while Ye Wenyu is like rice on the dining table, which he can eat anytime.
Therefore, Ye Wenyu nodded, looked at Cai Wenchuan, and calmly said to him, "Are you free tonight? I have something to say to you."
Just then, someone outside the hotel cheered, "Look, a rainbow!" Ye Wenyu looked up at the sound and, through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the five-star hotel, she did indeed see a beautiful rainbow bridge. Her mood improved slightly, hoping that, as the popular song goes, "after the storm comes the rainbow."
Cai Wenchuan's expression changed, realizing that she had probably called him for some reason. His heart sank. He did owe her an explanation, so he forced a smile and said in a hoarse voice, "I'm free. I'll wait for you outside your dorm at eight o'clock tonight." His voice sounded very unnatural, and his heart was pounding like a drum.
Ye Wenyu nodded and then stopped talking, walking towards the private room with her head down.
Once inside the private room, she chatted with Cai Wenchuan's parents for a while, ate a little something, and then the two families parted ways, satisfied.
Outside the hotel, Cai Wenchuan's father drove the Lin family's large RV to take them home. Ye Wenyu returned to school, and Zhang Susu insisted on parking her car at the entrance of Q University because she had something to say to her daughter.
Zhang Susu thanked Cai Wenchuan's father with overwhelming enthusiasm, bowing and scraping excessively. Ye Wenyu stood to the side, simply smiling and nodding without uttering a sound.
She had always been somewhat averse to the fact that Uncle Cai was driving the company's car. While all jobs are equal, a small matter can clearly reveal a person's character.
After the entire Cai family had left, Zhang Susu complained, "Oh, Xiaoyu, your Uncle Cai drove you back, why didn't you thank him?"
Ye Wenyu's face was as cold as ice as she said, "He's driving the Lin family's car, not his. As a butler, it's not appropriate for him to drive his master's car around every day." One should be "poor in poverty but not in spirit," but Uncle Cai didn't seem to have much ambition.
Zhang Susu was taken aback for a moment, then smiled dismissively and said, "Old Cai said the owner said he can open it however he wants; as long as the owner needs him, he can be there anytime with just one phone call."
Ye Wenyu fell silent, feeling as if she and her mother were from two different worlds. She said to Zhang Susu, "Mom, you should go back now. I have to go to class soon."
Her mother has been very concerned about her lately, but she now feels like she has lost her freedom and her life is becoming increasingly chaotic.
She turned to go back to school, but Zhang Susu didn't stop. Instead, she swiftly reached out and grabbed her daughter's hand. After grabbing it, she felt something was missing and was startled. Then she looked at her wrist and realized that Ye Wenyu's gold bracelet was gone. Zhang Susu asked in surprise, "Where's your bracelet?"
Ye Wenyu said with annoyance, "I've put them away. They look so bad on me!" She thought to herself, feeling annoyed, "Am I supposed to walk around the campus like a country auntie, wearing two bright, heavy bracelets?"
Zhang Susu breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at her, "I was so scared just now, I thought you had lost it! Silly you, so much gold, it would look so good on you! And you actually said it looked bad?!"
As Zhang Susu spoke, she shook her head, her face filled with disbelief. After a while, she smiled and said in a consultative tone, "Xiaoyu, could you lend your gold bracelet to your mother for a few days? In a couple of days, an old classmate of mine is having her son's wedding and she's invited me to the banquet. I want to wear it and show it off."
How could Ye Wenyu agree to that? She was planning to return the gold bracelet to Cai Wenchuan intact that very night, so she firmly said, "No, Mom, what about the gold bracelet I bought for you?"
Zhang Susu said shyly, "One isn't enough! Besides, the one you bought for me, Mom really likes it, but it's a bit too thin, like a wire. My classmates all have those super big ones now." As she spoke, she gestured with her hand on her wrist, indicating that it was about the thickness of a finger.
Ye Wenyu was stunned.
Like a child, Zhang Susu pleaded with her daughter, "Let me wear it for a day, don't be so stingy."
