Chapter 388 Love Arises Without Knowing Where It Begins

(three hundred and ninety-three)

Ye Wenyu dared not look in the mirror; she was afraid she would scare herself to death.

Zhang Susu confidently dragged her to meet Cai Wenchuan. They arranged to meet at a coffee shop. Ye Wenyu braced herself and walked into the coffee shop. There were many men and women sitting face to face in the coffee shop. She screamed in her heart, "Oh my god, this is just like a blind date!"

When Ye Wenyu and her mother arrived at the coffee shop, Cai Wenchuan had not yet arrived. She looked around. It was a coffee shop about half an hour away from Q University's campus, called Cat Shopkeeper. There were indeed several very beautiful round-faced cats inside. She smiled at the beautiful cats, and the cats did not shy away, looking at her with a haughty air.

She thought to herself that Cai Wenchuan probably didn't meet at Q University because he wanted to avoid suspicion, after all, their past teacher-student relationship had caused quite a stir.

The rain outside has stopped, the sky is a clear, bright blue, and the camphor trees outside the window appear even greener. The sunlight is out, golden and shimmering, like countless threads on a loom. After several autumn rains, the ginkgo leaves have turned yellow, sparkling like gold.

The autumn breeze is refreshing and invigorating, but only those without worries can feel this joy. Ye Wenyu, burdened with her own thoughts, naturally cannot appreciate the beauty of autumn.

Time ticked by, and Zhang Susu grew anxious, fidgeting and constantly leaning forward and standing on tiptoe to peer towards the door.

Ye Wenyu felt a sense of relief and joy. The heavy weight on her heart suddenly disappeared. She slowly said to the old woman, "Mom, Cai Wenchuan probably won't come. Let's go." She couldn't even help but smile with relief.

Why was she so nervous? She should have known from the start that Cai Wenchuan wouldn't come to see her. Even a fool would know that ex-partners can't be friends, so anyone with a modicum of intelligence would wisely avoid her. She had her mother crying and nagging, insisting she come, but Cai Wenchuan didn't have that problem, so he definitely wouldn't come.

Cai Wenchuan is intelligent; otherwise, he wouldn't have become a professor at Q University at such a young age.

Zhang Susu glared at Ye Wenyu and scolded her fiercely, "Wenchuan is a child I watched grow up. I'm practically his second mother. How dare he stand me up?!"

Half a mother? Ye Wenyu was bewildered.

Zhang Susu remained calm and confident as she waited.

Ye Wenyu could only remain silent. She took a sip of coffee and found it extremely bitter. She immediately frowned and looked for sugar cubes, intending to add some. After adding a few, she gave up, thinking that now, whatever she drank would taste as bitter as gall. Adding more sugar would be futile.

She slowly stirred her coffee with a silver spoon, thinking painfully to herself that if Cai Wenchuan were smart, he shouldn't have come, just as she wouldn't attend his classes anymore. It would be very awkward for the two of them to meet again, so it would be better to be sensible and avoid him.

My mother seems determined to make Cai Wenchuan her son-in-law, which is really giving me a headache!

Time ticked by, and another half hour passed. Ye Wenyu relaxed even more, thinking happily that Cai Wenchuan probably wouldn't come after all this time. They had broken up, and in his heart, there was only Lin Tingyue.

If a person doesn't love another person, they naturally won't spend time and energy on her.

However, just as she was thinking this, she heard Zhang Susu excitedly shout, "Wenchuan, he's here!"

Ye Wenyu was stunned. She looked up at her mother and saw the old woman had already stood up happily, waving vigorously towards the door. She even took a moment to give her daughter a sidelong glance, her expression saying, "See, he wouldn't dare not come. I told you he would!"

Could it be that he actually came?!

Ye Wenyu looked curiously towards the door and saw Cai Wenchuan walk in with a smile. Because of the surprise, her big eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

It's early autumn now. Two rows of neat ginkgo trees stand outside the coffee shop, like soldiers in formation. After a few autumn winds and rains, the golden leaves have fallen to the ground, like golden armor. Now it's "the whole city is dressed in golden armor".

Cai Wenchuan walked in amidst the golden leaves, like a prince from a fairy tale. He wore a white shirt under a dark blue, preppy-style sweater, paired with white casual trousers—a very academic look. For some reason, this man looked good in everything; the clothes fit him perfectly.

She's practically a walking clothes rack.

The female customers in the coffee shop were all looking towards the door, and their gazes lingered on Cai Wenchuan for a while longer.

Cai Wenchuan is a handsome professor on campus, and his reputation is well-deserved.

Ye Wenyu observed silently that Cai Wenchuan seemed to have lost a lot of weight, looking almost skin and bones. His face was pale and his expression was gloomy, as if he was not happy. He must have had a unhappy year in Germany.

Seeing his preoccupied look, Ye Wenyu felt a pang of sadness, wondering if he still hadn't gotten rid of his inner demons. Perhaps he wouldn't be able to get rid of such terrible inner demons until Lin Tingyue died, no, to be precise, until Cai Wenchuan died. Sometimes, loving someone but not being able to have them can be a lifelong pain.

"Love arises without knowing its origin, and deepens with each passing moment; the living can die for it, and the dead can live for it"—this kind of unforgettable love probably describes Cai Wenchuan's feelings for Lin Tingyue.

In Ye Wenyu's eyes, Lin Tingyue was a pretty young lady with an empty head and a not-so-good personality, but in Cai Wenchuan's heart, she must be an angel.

As the saying goes, "What you consider grass, I consider treasure."

Cai Wenchuan sat down opposite Ye Wenyu.

Ye Wenyu blushed and lowered her head, her face burning with embarrassment! Her heart was in turmoil, but she pretended to be nonchalant, silently stirring her coffee.

Cai Wenchuan smiled silently, his eyes gentle as he looked at Ye Wenyu. Sunlight streamed in through the window, bathing him in a golden glow, making him appear as handsome as a fairy from a painting. Girls in the nearby seats would frequently turn to look at him. When his gaze inadvertently swept past them, their faces would flush and their eyes would light up.

Ye Wenyu thought to herself, they must all be envious of her, thinking that she was the woman this handsome man deeply loved. But in fact, there was someone else in his heart.

Zhang Susu also noticed Cai Wenchuan's handsome appearance and would occasionally nudge her daughter under the table with a smug look, then gesture with her eyes and expression to look around at the sudden appearance of rivals. Her expression seemed to say, "Look, so many women are watching him; he should cherish her!"
