Chapter 2 Going Home

(two)

After getting out of the Didi car, Ye Wenyu stood by the roadside, quickly raised her head, and looked affectionately in the direction of her home.

This is an old town area, formerly factory dormitories, which were later demolished. I remember she came back last year because the old houses held so many memories and stories. She wanted to buy them as a place for her soul to rest. But when she returned with a huge sum of money to buy the house, she found that all the old houses had been demolished and replaced by towering skyscrapers with huge glass curtain walls that gleamed coldly in the bright sunlight.

She had no interest in the brand-new house and returned disappointed. From this small matter of buying a house, she learned that money is not everything.

Now she finds herself reborn, just 19 years old. The old house is still there, her home is still there, and her parents are still there! Ye Wenyu pulls herself out of her reverie, her heart filled with excitement. She is home now. She knocks on the door, and someone will open it. And the person who opens the door is her mother, whom she has been longing for day and night!

Therefore, Ye Wenyu walked hurriedly towards the old house with excited steps. Her home was on the third floor. It was a six-story tenement building. The fire safety of the entire old community was worrying. Moreover, there was no property management, so there was no cleaning or security, making safety a concern.

The stairwell was dark and filthy, the walls plastered with all sorts of unsightly advertisements for plumbing, electrical repairs, and locksmith services. Ye Wenyu, her hands on the straps of her backpack, climbed the stairs step by step. One side of the stainless steel escalator was broken, leaning outwards as if it might collapse to the next floor at any moment. The glass on the third floor had been smashed by someone, and no one had come to replace it. As she passed by, a gust of cold wind blew into her neck, feeling like a steel knife scraping her bones. A dark-skinned man ran down from upstairs. As he passed by her, he stopped and gave her a greedy look, as if she were naked. Ye Wenyu's heart pounded wildly with fear. She clung tightly to the wall and ran almost at top speed towards her home. Fortunately, the man didn't chase after her. Only when she reached her doorstep did she breathe a sigh of relief.

In her previous life, the reason she followed the incredibly wealthy Lin Tingfeng and became a slave to money was because she had suffered poverty for too many years! Her parents divorced when she was very young, and then her father moved out and remarried with another woman, ignoring her completely. Her mother raised her alone, and a woman can't earn much money, so her family always lived in this old neighborhood, which was cramped, dark, damp, dirty, and unsafe, with each resident being incredibly rude.

Because poverty brings out ugly things, she agreed to meet Lin Tingfeng almost without hesitation when he appeared before her.

However, in this life, because she could start over, the dark, damp, and unsafe environment before her eyes became bright and cheerful, even tinged with a nostalgic golden hue, as if filtered through a beauty filter. She felt a surge of joy as her smiling gaze lingered on the familiar scenes of her old home that had frequently appeared in her dreams in her previous life.

Finally arriving at her own doorstep, Ye Wenyu composed herself, reached out and knocked, her heart filled with anticipation, her eyes even reddening at the prospect of seeing her mother, whom she had been separated from by death.

The room was quiet; there was no answer to the door, nor any footsteps. She looked up at the house number in a panic, her rising joy turning to gloom. She turned around to look at her surroundings. Could it be that all of this wasn't real, but a dream? Was she actually dead, and her soul had returned? That's why her mother couldn't be home.

Just as she was filled with fear and trepidation, the door opened with a "click," and her mother's face appeared before her. "Wenyu, you're back. Mom has been waiting for you."

It was my mother's warm smile and her familiar, loving voice!

Recalling her past life, how her mother died tragically at a young age because of her, Ye Wenyu was overcome with grief. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she could no longer hold back. She threw herself into her mother's arms, hugging her tightly and calling out emotionally, "Mom, Mom!"

My mother's embrace is warm, so this is not a dream, it's real. Thank God for giving her a second chance, so everything can start over.

Ye Wenyu's mother gently pushed her away, looked up at her daughter with a puzzled expression. Her daughter's eyes were red and filled with tears. She wondered anxiously if her daughter was so agitated because she knew something. Was it some scoundrel who had told her about it beforehand?

Ye Wenyu was unaware of her mother's thoughts. She held her mother's hand tightly and said, "Mom, I'm sorry!" In her previous life, her mother died tragically because of her mistake, and she had always felt guilty and blamed herself.

Ye Wenyu's mother was even more confused. Why was she apologizing? If anyone should apologize, it was her who had apologized to her child.

With tears in her eyes, Ye Wenyu said, "Let me take a good look at you."

In her past life, her mother passed away when she was 21. A year after her mother's death, when she was a senior in college, she also committed suicide. However, because they were separated by death, it felt as if Ye Wenyu had not seen her mother for a very, very long time.

Ye Wenyu's mother, Zhang Susu, felt even more ashamed when she saw her daughter's emotional and lingering expression. She coughed, took Ye Wenyu's hand, and sat her down on the sofa. She said to her, somewhat shyly and awkwardly, "Xiaoyu, Mom has something very important to announce."

Ye Wenyu paused for a moment, then looked up with tearful eyes.

Zhang Susu smiled shyly and said to her with a blush, "I'm getting remarried in a few days."
