Chapter 68 The Garden Breeze Blows Through the Jade Leaves

(68)

At first, Ye Wenyu sat in a chair, the April breeze gently caressing her face, tickling her. Her hair rose and fell with the breeze. Before her was a vibrant, colorful Chinese garden, a riot of flowers in full bloom. The warm sunshine bathed her, making her feel a little drowsy. Lost in her own thoughts, she seemed to hear soft music, her heart floating on colorful clouds. She felt immense joy, yet this joy was so intense it felt unreal. The swimming pool in the distance was a deep blue, shimmering like a mirror in the spring sunshine. She felt that everything before her was a dream, that she was in a beautiful dream.

Because in real life, she could not sit in an exceptionally luxurious Chinese garden like a mistress of the house, nor could she hear Lin Tingfeng gently tell her that this villa was built for her.

Lin Ye Ju, Lin Ye Ju.

She stared at Lin Tingfeng, somewhat dazed. At first, she couldn't hear what he was saying. She could only see his mouth slowly opening and closing. It was as if there was a layer of glass between them. She couldn't hear what he was saying. She was just incredulous. Her head was buzzing. Her ears were sometimes ringing and sometimes playing soft music. Her heart was sometimes filled with ecstasy and sometimes with fear.

She lost track of time, but reason finally returned to her. Lin Tingfeng looked at her with concern and asked with a smile, "Xiaoyu, do you understand?"

What did she understand? Her mind was still a complete blank; she didn't understand.

Lin Tingfeng nodded slightly and slowly said to her, "Because you said my father's garden was ugly, I bought a villa in Hangzhou and hired a famous designer to redesign and renovate it in a completely Chinese style. I like it very much. I was worried that you wouldn't like it. You have no idea how happy I am to hear the answer today." For the first time in a long time, he became a talkative man in front of her.

Ye Wenyu stared blankly at Lin Tingfeng. This was the second time he had said that this Chinese-style villa was built for her. As far as she knew, villas in Hangzhou cost at least fifty or sixty million yuan each. It was all because of a joke she made when they first met, out of envy and jealousy—that she, being poor, had mocked the gardens of wealthy people as a tasteless mix of Chinese and Western styles, a nouveau riche affair—that he had taken to heart. He then bought land in Hangzhou and built a villa according to her ideals, claiming it was built for her!

Lin Tingfeng found it amusing to see Ye Wenyu looking like a dazed doll. He waved his hand in front of her and chuckled, "You don't believe me?"

Ye Wenyu finally came to her senses and said in a low voice, "I can't believe it."

How could anyone believe that? Even fairy tales wouldn't be written like this!

A voice, as loud as a bell, rang in her heart: Was what he said true? He built a villa for her; what did that mean?

For the past six months since they met, he has always been like a dragon, appearing and disappearing without a trace. On the few occasions they did meet, he acted coldly, like an ascetic man, maintaining a distant and aloof relationship with her, avoiding physical contact, and even refusing to give her his number when she asked for it. He really didn't seem like a man who liked her. Even in her dreams at night, she couldn't imagine that he would like her, let alone like her spending lavishly to build her a multi-million dollar villa.

Will the iceberg melt because of her?

She couldn't believe it, she just couldn't believe it. Even if she were given another hundred days, no, ten thousand years, she still couldn't accept this truth.

She looked at him; his smile was so genuine, but—

She repeated softly, "I can't believe it."

This is so inconsistent. She always thought he had no feelings for her and kept her secret crush hidden deep inside. But she never expected things to take such a turn for the better.

Is this the end of suffering and the beginning of happiness? Is this real, or just wishful thinking on her part?

Upon hearing this answer, Lin Tingfeng gave a bitter smile. He sighed softly, leaned back in the sun lounger, and whether it was the dazzling April sun or his annoyance at her disbelief, he placed his hand on his forehead and remained silent for a while.

Ye Wenyu didn't want to talk to him either. She sat there quietly, processing Lin Tingfeng's words and reflecting on the events of the past few days.

Ever since he picked her up from the storm and brought her home, Lin Tingfeng seemed to have changed completely. He became especially caring and gentle towards her. It was as if he had moved from one pole of the earth to the other, from the South Pole to the North Pole. Why was that?

He treated her exceptionally well during her illness, and now he's even taken her to Hangzhou to visit this incredibly luxurious Chinese-style villa, saying that this villa, costing five or six thousand yuan, was built for her by him.

How could this be? Thinking of this, Ye Wenyu smiled sadly.

"You don't believe me?" Lin Tingfeng lowered his hands from his eyes, sat up straight in the sun lounger, looked at her cautiously, and said thoughtfully, "Perhaps it's because I've hidden my feelings too well all along?"

He said he hid his feelings too well. Ye Wenyu blinked her big eyes and looked at Lin Tingfeng with a puzzled expression.

"How about this?" Lin Tingfeng stood up, put his hands in his pockets, and smiled at Ye Wenyu, "Let's stay here for a couple of days, then go on a trip somewhere else. Maybe when we get to the next place, you'll understand that what I said is true."

Next place? Where are they going next?

For the next few days, Lin Tingfeng and Ye Wenyu stayed at his villa in Hangzhou without going anywhere else. Ye Wenyu was overwhelmed with shock and questions, unable to sort things out, and thus became even more silent.

She was like a frightened little animal, only able to stare blankly. Sometimes when Lin Tingfeng spoke to her, she would reply with a word or two, behaving very docilely, but other than that, she showed no other expression.

She quietly takes walks, reads books, and drinks tea.

She still couldn't accept what he had said before.

Does he mean that he loves her to an extreme degree, so he would build her a villa? Is that what he means?

But what about everything that happened before? If he only fell in love with her while she was sick, then this doesn't make sense, because he said the villa was started being built six months ago. That means he fell in love with her the first time they met, but why did he act so cold and unapproachable in the following meetings?

Ye Wenyu pondered these matters in silence every day, racking her brains but unable to come up with an answer.
