Injured Standoff
The White Tower was as quiet as ever that day. Busy sentries and guides hurried back and forth, their military boots clacking across the ground, but there was no other sound.
The sky on this day was as pale as usual, and the temperature and humidity on this day were clearly controlled within the perfect cold range as usual.
Xu Youling was clearly smiling very gently and shyly that day. He just complained a few times that he was a little tired. Just before leaving, he coaxed the German Shepherd who was always very attached to him.
It's clearly just that.
But why did he suddenly go limp in my arms, motionless? It was as if he had lost all his strength in an instant, even his limbs and joints became like over-greased bearings, allowing himself to be manipulated, feeling wronged and pitiful.
Pei Zhi held Xu Youling's back and legs and picked her up, gently shaking her up. The weight was shocking.
In front of him was the cell door that had been wide open after Xu Youling had sneaked in so many times, and at his feet was the orange cat that was biting his trouser leg in frustration.
Going out.
I have to go out. The guide in my arms needs careful treatment, quiet sleep, and cautious protection, instead of opening my eyes wide with trust, letting him hold my hand, and doing the guidance that he is simply unable to bear.
“!”
A different kind of footsteps could be heard in the corridor, a messy and urgent sound with crackling collisions. The tall sentry was holding the beautiful and quiet guide horizontally. His soft black hair hung between the sentry's elbows, trembling slightly as the latter ran with big strides.
Then came the panic alarm, the red lights flashing, casting a sharp and glaring threat on the corners and the ground.
"White Tower cell! White Tower cell! A prisoner has escaped!"
"Psychic fluctuations detected! Take emergency shelter! Take emergency shelter!"
The buzzing of intercoms and radios echoed in circles in the stagnant air above the cell. The prisoners in other cells began to riot, banging on the iron bars, and the echo was terrifying.
"It's okay...it's okay..."
Amid the alarm, the sentry's face grew even gloomier, but he subconsciously lowered his head to look at the guide's face, his tightly closed, pale lips, and whispered words of comfort.
It was a gentleness and panic that the guide had never shown when he was awake. His hands were shaking, and the only comfort came from the guide's soft but steady breathing, which rose and fell faintly against his heart.
"I'll take you out...it's okay..."
"I won't make you end up like me..."
Deserted by everyone.
There were only fifty meters left at the end of the corridor, and the light coming in and out was bright and soft.
Someone is guarding it. After all, this is not a way to escape from prison. How can Xu Youling, who is so soft in his arms, leave from such a road?
He should go to the light. Even if he is held by someone as despicable, vicious and deserving of death as himself, it will be a good ending in the soft light.
Pei Zhi slowly slowed his pace and headed for the exit. The sentries and guides who had hurried over were shielded by the light, so he couldn't see their expressions.
When he was forced to kneel, with a gun pointed at his forehead and ordered to hand over the guide in his arms, he felt a long-lost sense of relief. It was a peaceful sense of relief that had been hard to find since he met Xu Youling.
"He's a little tired."
The trainee soldier on duty looked at the notorious sentry in astonishment. He had his hands behind his back, his lips tightly pursed, and he turned his head away from the guide who was being carried on a stretcher, his profile hidden in the darkness.
-
Open your eyes.
The snow-white ceiling was just like the day after I met Pei Zhi.
It is the Baita Medical Department.
Xu Youling sat up suddenly, almost suspecting that he had had a bad dream. When he woke up, he found that all the things he had worked so hard to accomplish in the past had been deleted with just one click. He was devastated.
But the pain did not come from the trauma to the back of the head, but from the solar plexus. It was a dull pain accompanied by dizziness and headache.
"hiss……"
Xu Youling curled up her knees and half-huggled her head, while the quilt that smelled of disinfectant rolled up into a ball on the bed.
Something is wrong, nine out of ten things are wrong.
He remembered that he had come to the White Pagoda to find Pei Zhi. After being tormented by him for such a long time, including rubbing and guiding him (although Pei Zhi was the one who took the lead), the latter's condition had actually improved a lot. How could he not -
Just go crazy and kick yourself out like you did when we first met.
It even got to the point where I had to lie in bed.
While he was in a daze, the door of the ward was pushed open and the doctor walked in, followed by several soldiers. It was obviously not a minor injury like the first time they met.
They all looked unhappy, and Xu Youling couldn't help but sit up straighter: "Hello, may I ask..."
"Are you feeling any worse?" the doctor interrupted him.
"I just have a slight headache, that's all." Xu Youling spoke cautiously.
For some reason, he always felt that these people had bad intentions.
"That's good," the leading soldier said, but his expression was far from relaxed; he remained tense. "Then please come with us."
"What...where are we going?" Xu Youling clutched the bed sheet tightly.
His feeling was not wrong. The task of the people in front of him was obviously not to care about his health, but to take him away.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
The soldier shrugged and didn't answer his question. Instead, he forcefully helped him off the bed and carried him away. Xu Youling was completely unable to move and immediately panicked: "Wait a minute! Where are you taking me?"
"You entered the White Tower's closed cell without permission, came into contact with a serious criminal, and are suspected of being involved in the prisoner's escape plan." The soldier's voice was cold. "Mr. Xu, as a citizen of the White Tower, you should have cooperated with us."
The corridor was empty, with no one in sight.
Xu Youling was being carried away, and she had no control over anything, and her heart was in turmoil.
Then I remembered that the last thing I saw before I passed out was the round puppy eyes of a German Shepherd, so sincere and kind.
A door opened, and Xu Youling was helped in by a soldier and sat down in an armchair. It was surprisingly comfortable, not like he had imagined, like a torture chair or something worse.
There was no light in the room, and his eyes couldn't adjust to the brightness for a while. It took him a while to see that this was also a ward. It was obviously more advanced and solemn than the place where he was treated just now. A large number of sophisticated instruments surrounded the guide on the bed.
There was a sentry sitting in front of the bed in a daze, as if he didn't hear anything at all. It was not until Xu Youling's gaze focused on him that the sentry suddenly raised his head.
A look with bloodshot eyes, full of hatred and disgust.
Xu Youling took a deep breath.
"Lieutenant Colonel Fang, we're leaving first."
The soldiers behind him filed out one after another and closed the door considerately, leaving only Xu Youling, the sentry named Fang and the unconscious guide on the bed in the darkness.
"I'll fucking kill you!"
The sentry suddenly leaped up, rushed over to Xu Youling, and grabbed his neck. Xu Youling had just woken up from his coma, and his reaction speed was only fast enough to grab his hand, which was tightening more and more, and a groan escaped his throat.
"That lunatic Pei Zhi should be tortured to death in his cell! He's a murderer, a traitor, and a disgusting bastard!"
"You saved him... You actually saved him! You're crazy too!"
Xu Youling struggled to catch the air that barely flowed into his throat. The smell of blood became stronger and stronger. The sentry in front of him had obviously gone crazy, with bloodshot eyes.
"Cough...you...cough cough..."
His vision was clouded over, and his struggles gradually turned into spasms.
The next second, the sentry seemed to be startled by something, and suddenly let go of his hand and took a few steps back.
Xu Youling was gasping for breath, his face flushed and his ears ached.
The sentry stared at him for a while, then suddenly laughed dryly.
"No wonder you were so willing..." He said hoarsely, "It turns out he and you are together!"
"He didn't!" Xu Youling widened his eyes, and his eye circles turned red.
"I can feel his mental strength..." the sentry muttered. "Why...why can someone like him find a foolish guide to satisfy him, while I have to watch my guide die day by day!"
He gritted his teeth and glared at Xu Youling fiercely.
Xu Youling completely didn't understand why the sentry said that. He was indeed a little frightened. The heartbeat caused by lack of oxygen and the trembling of blood still remained in his chest, floating in his head in a daze.
Then he remembered the report he had submitted and the snowy field he had seen in Pei Zhi's spiritual realm.
Xu Youling raised his head to confirm the sentry's face, then tried to stand up to look at the guide on the bed, but the sentry stopped him and pushed him out.
"Get out of here!" he roared. "You and Pei Zhi will die in this cell together!"
It turned out to be them.
The sentry couple, who were in the same mission team as Pei Zhi, followed the guide's instructions incorrectly, and they threw themselves away from the sentry, but sacrificed themselves.
And during this process, Pei Zhi, who was not accompanied by a guide, was never given any escape signal.
The person lying on the hospital bed could be Pei Zhi.
Xu Youling's mind was in a mess. The news he read in Pei Zhi's spiritual realm told him that Pei Zhi was completely innocent and seriously injured.
But he could also feel the intense emotions of the sentry in front of him, his despair and pain, and the echoing collapse also made Xu Youling helpless.
"Pei Zhi..." he said dryly, "He didn't do anything wrong."
The sentry stopped and stared at him: "Shut up!"
"I'm a guide, albeit a weak one, but I can sympathize with your pain." Xu Youling mustered up the courage to continue, "I'm sorry... Seeing Mr. Shen like this, I'm really sorry, and I hope he gets better soon."
Seeing that the sentry just looked at him without saying anything, Xu Youling took a tentative step closer and continued, "But his lying here has nothing to do with Pei Zhi. Pei Zhi just did what he was supposed to do. Does he have to die there... to be considered innocent?"
Fang Suiming remained silent and protective, not moving a muscle. His gaze swept across Xu Youling's face, then shifted away.
"He really did feed you a lot of sweet talk." Fang Suiming's voice was hoarse.
"He didn't!" Xu Youling clenched his fists. "I saw it myself in his spiritual realm!"
"A guide like you, whose mental power is negligible, actually trusts a Sentinel so much more powerful than you and naively defends him. You're truly foolish," Fang Suiming said coldly. "Do you think he can't tamper with the content presented to you in the spiritual realm? Idiot, has he fooled your brain?"
