Reunion after a short separation

Reunion after a short separation

Duan Xingzhi's curse suddenly exploded, and Xu You heard the panting barking of a dog. He jumped out of bed with a start, and without even having time to put on his slippers, he rolled downstairs.

From the stairs, one could see Duan Xingzhi sitting on the ground, pointing angrily at the German Shepherd that had broken in. The shop door behind him was wide open, and raindrops were blowing in on the dry floor inside.

The German Shepherd tightened its front paws and let out a deep growl, showing no fear of Duan Xingzhi's threat. It was soaking wet, with water dripping down its fur.

“!”

Xu Youling's face turned pale in an instant.

The spiritual attraction of that application form that came from nowhere seemed to have faded to the point where no trace of it could be detected. And the spiritual realm of Pei Zhi, which was clearly bright moon and clear sky, that had appeared at the back door of the White Tower Courtroom not long ago, overlapped with the extreme anger of the German Shepherd in front of him, causing him a headache.

Why is this happening? Pei Zhi suddenly came here and made such a request... Could it be that there is something wrong with his spiritual realm again?

There was no time to think too much, because the German Shepherd had already pounced on Duan Xingzhi and bit his wrist. The latter was startled and barely dodged it, stumbling to his feet.

"Woof! Woof!" The German Shepherd still maintained an attacking posture, staring at the sentry with its round eyes without blinking.

Xu Youling pushed away Duan Xingzhi who was blocking the stairs and shouted at the German Shepherd to stop the attack.

Lu Heng was still upstairs, and there was only one sentry here, Duan Xingzhi. Xu Youling didn't know the level of his mental strength, but he was aware of the aggressiveness of a German Shepherd in a manic state. No matter what, he couldn't let anyone get hurt inexplicably.

Duan Xingzhi was shaken by his push and was stunned for a moment, then he immediately ran upstairs to call Lu Heng.

Xu Youling closed his eyes and calmed himself. Ever since he entered Shen Jiayi's spiritual realm and encountered a situation where he could not control his mental power, he had hardly used his guiding ability again.

However, when he quickly prepared himself mentally, opened his eyes and was about to comfort the furious German Shepherd, he found that it had already sat down obediently and was looking at him cautiously.

Xu Youling's heart skipped a beat. The German Shepherd in front of him had completely recovered from its furious state. Its eyes were dark and aggrieved. It stared at Xu Youling intently, uttering a soft "wooo."

"I'm sorry... I didn't mean to be mean to you, I really didn't." Xu Youling's hands were shaking. He half-knelt on the ground and hugged the puppy, who seemed to have grown a little bigger, into his arms. "You're okay, right? You're just angry, right?"

"Woo..." The German Shepherd's wet nose rubbed against the fabric on his shoulder.

Xu Youling stroked the fur on its back, trying his best to calm his pounding heart.

At least Pei Zhi didn't encounter any new problems...

"I'm all wet," Xu Youling whispered, "Why did you suddenly come here?"

What about that application form?

Xu Youling wanted to ask, but she felt that it was a bit ridiculous for her to talk to a spirit, so she just hugged the German Shepherd a little tighter.

When Lu Heng hurriedly followed Duan Xingzhi downstairs, Xu Youling was wiping the fur of the intruding vicious dog with a large, dry towel.

The orange cat has been released from the spiritual realm because the German Shepherd licked its entire head. Now it is sitting aside and cleaning itself up with a look of disgust on its face.

"Woof!" The German Shepherd immediately barked when he saw the person he had just spoken ill of came downstairs.

The two of them stopped on the stairs and looked at the German Shepherd nervously, and suddenly became tense again.

Xu Youling could only pinch the German Shepherd's mouthpiece and whispered, "They are my friends."

The German Shepherd raised its paw and touched its nose angrily, then turned its face away and stopped looking at the two people on the stairs.

"Xu Youling, whose spirit body is this?" Lu Heng came back to his senses from his shock and opened his mouth subconsciously, "How could it suddenly..."

"I don't know." Xu Youling turned around, revealing a somewhat pleading expression, "Let it stay for one night. It's raining too hard outside. I'll stay downstairs with it."

His fingers were subconsciously stroking the fur on the German Shepherd's back, one stroke at a time.

"..." Duan Xingzhi and Lu Heng looked at each other and immediately turned their heads away from each other.

"Please, it's... the spirit of a friend. Something must have happened to it, so it came here." Xu Youling whispered, "Can you squeeze in for a bit, just this once?"

He raised a finger and then withdrew it.

Lu Heng stared at the German Shepherd for a while, then suddenly seemed to remember something. He showed an expression of sudden enlightenment, then turned around and went upstairs, glaring at Duan Xingzhi angrily: "Okay, just this once."

"Do you think I'm willing?" Duan Xingzhi blushed and followed in a hurry.

The two returned upstairs, and it seemed that all their energy was focused on how to survive this boring coexistence space, and they no longer had any energy to care about this sudden ferocious spirit.

Xu Youling held up the German Shepherd's face, looked at it carefully from left to right for a while, and sighed softly.

"He doesn't even remember, why are you still so clingy to me?" he whispered.

The sofa bed where Duan Xingzhi had just been lying was still there. Xu Youling stood up and walked to the bed and sat down. The orange cat jumped onto his knees first.

So the German Shepherd could only lie obediently beside the bed, raising his head to look at him from time to time.

Xu Youling lowered his hand to touch the German Shepherd's head, his voice very low.

"Have a good sleep," he said. "Tomorrow... I'll take you back to the White Tower."

-

A rainstorm washed away all the dust in the air. There was occasional water on the streets, but the leaves of the trees on the roadside sparkled in the early morning sun, like shells on the beach.

A lot of things happened yesterday and the shop didn't open very early, so it was quiet both upstairs and downstairs.

The German Shepherd had already laid down on the sofa bed without me noticing, with his mouth slightly open and his paws scratching the air from time to time.

Xu Youling was sleeping soundly, with the blanket covering half of her body, and her bangs hanging on her slightly red face.

The streets, like the shops and their owners, have not yet fully woken up. They are quiet and gentle, and the only movement is the chirping of morning birds.

Someone stopped at the door, his tall shadow reflected on the floor-to-ceiling window that still had drops of water on it.

He seemed to be observing the situation inside through the glass very carefully for a while, then he raised his hand and used his mental power to ring the wind chime on the door.

Xu Youling was floating in a chaotic dream when he suddenly heard the sound of wind chimes and the hot breathing of the German Shepherd beside him. For a moment, he thought he was still in a dream.

The person outside the door was unexpectedly considerate and waited patiently for a while before ringing the wind chimes again, waiting for the guide, who was sleeping heavily on the sofa bed, to wake up.

Why are there guests so early in the morning... Xu Youling forced himself to sit up, but his eyes were still squinted. He supported his arms behind his back and bent his legs to barely sit still.

"Wait a moment, please? I'll be right there."

Perhaps because he hadn't had time to fully wake up, his voice sounded a bit lazy and hoarse, and the little bit of clarity he managed to squeeze out was fleeting.

The person outside the door paused and said in a deep voice, "Okay."

Xu Youling's eyes suddenly widened.

Through a glass door, the sunlight after the rain illuminates the metal sheets of the wind chimes, the round door handles, and the straight epaulettes of the sentries.

The sentry stared at him without blinking, as if he had been waiting there for a long time. He put one hand on the door and pointed at the German Shepherd who was still sleeping soundly with the other hand, and silently mouthed to the frightened young store manager:

"I came to find my dog."

-

Xu Youling didn't know how she climbed out of bed like in a dream. She put on a coat and opened the door for Pei Zhi, then hurriedly closed the sofa bed and asked him to sit down.

No rationality could function anymore, and I could only mechanically let my body act like any other guest, rigidly completing the process.

Pei Zhi's eyes were quite calm, even gentler than before. He sat on the sofa and gestured to the German Shepherd, who then shook his fur and came over to sit beside him.

"I'm so sorry, it's not usually like this." Pei Zhi lowered his hand and stroked the German Shepherd's ear, then nodded to Xu Youling decisively, "Please take care of it last night."

"No...it's not a bother." Xu Youling sat on the small armchair opposite him, clasping his hands awkwardly, and whispered, "I'm in the business of receiving spiritual beings."

"Really?" Pei Zhi raised his eyebrows. "It's a very interesting profession."

The room was quiet for a moment, with only the German Shepherd's wheezing sound as he stuck out his tongue.

Xu Youling stared at the tip of her shoes, her eyes drifting upwards from time to time, paying attention to Pei Zhi's every reaction.

He didn't know whether Pei Zhi was still under the influence of mental interference at this moment, so he had no memory of what happened before, and he couldn't send out mental tentacles to test the condition of his mental realm.

That had been done many times before, but it was too familiar and offensive for a stranger.

What's more, Pei Zhi really didn't seem to recognize him. He just sat there calmly, as if he had made up his mind to kill some time here.

Xu Youling raised his head and asked tentatively, "Sir, are you serving in the expeditionary force?"

He noticed that there seemed to be a few more badges on Pei Zhi's chest, but he could not see through Pei Zhi's eyes to his slightly upturned messy hair and his confused eyes that were inconsistent with his cautious attitude.

"Yes." Pei Zhi answered frankly, "I'm on vacation."

He looked straight into Xu Youling's eyes, not as aggressive as before, but still serious and somewhat cold.

Xu Youling felt a prick and quickly lowered his head: "Is that so."

"Is the store manager local?" Pei Zhi asked, "I'm looking for an address."

"Address? I may... not necessarily know it." Xu Youling said in a low voice.

"It's a very important matter." Pei Zhi emphasized his tone. "Can you please help me, store manager?"

The German Shepherd and Pei Zhi stared at him together, making Xu Youling feel uneasy. The other party didn't seem to have any intention of using mental tentacles to probe him, but was simply seeking help.

"What's the address?" he finally asked.

Pei Zhi reached into his pocket, took out a hard envelope, pulled out the paper inside, unfolded it, and read out the address.

The light from the French windows allowed Xu Youling to see the title page on the back of the page: the Matching System Application Form. He swallowed hard.

"It seems to be here." Xu Youling's voice was like a mosquito's buzz. "Sir, what are you looking for this address for?"

Pei Zhi raised his head from the paper, glanced at him, and slowly folded it and put it away.

He didn't answer, and Xu Youling became nervous, her heart pounding, and her fingers involuntarily clenched the fabric of the armchair.

Pei Zhi's hand turned lightly and reached into the pocket of his work jacket, which he had put on hastily. With a flip of his wrist, he pulled out the envelope that had frightened him yesterday.

Xu Youling stared at his movements blankly, almost forgetting to react. The envelope and Pei Zhi's were obviously sent out from the White Pagoda one after the other. They were exactly the same in style, with only the contents of the paper inside being different.

He raised his head blankly. Pei Zhi looked at him as if he was holding the strongest weight and looked at him with the attitude of a winner.

But the tone was as sincere as possible.

"Mr. Xu didn't sign. Does that mean he doesn't want to?"
