Stay here
A kiss.
Pei Zhi became easily satisfied after getting the explanation. He folded his hands on Xu Youling's lower abdomen, holding him tightly against himself, and no longer looked at the annoying sentry who was still standing stupidly at the stairs.
He lowered his eyes and could only see the tip of Xu Youling's delicate nose and her trembling eyelashes. He could only smell the faint scent of shampoo on the top of her hair, mixed with the refreshing and warm smell in the shop, and something that seemed to come from the guide himself... a very gentle and soft smell.
It made Pei Zhi realize that Xu Youling was not that resistant, so he pressed his lips to the top of his head and took a deep breath.
Xu Youling's hair was soft and fluffy, like a small, dark cloud of sadness. Pei Zhi hesitated, lowered his head again, and leaned over to kiss his earlobe.
But Xu Youling grabbed his hand around her waist and said "no" in a crying voice.
Pei Zhi didn't know why Xu Youling was crying again, so he stopped obediently. He felt that he might still have a lot to learn.
"I'm sorry I scared you." He said with a hint of regret, but also with a sense of righteousness. "The application form says sentries can treat guides like this."
As if afraid of being exposed for this little lie, Pei Zhi immediately added, "But if you don't like it, I can deviate from the requirements on the application form."
Xu Youling squeezed his hand, and Pei Zhi reluctantly let go, watching Xu Youling turn around. His eyes were wet and red. Why did Xu Youling like to cry so much?
"Don't treat me like this anymore." Xu Youling turned around with tears in her eyes, as if she had been severely bullied.
Pei Zhi's heart beat twice, even faster than when he kissed Xu Youling's hair just now. He asked confusedly, "Why?"
Xu Youling didn't know how to answer. She turned her head and raised her face to try to stop her tears, but she couldn't stop them from flowing down no matter what she did.
So he said, "I might be a little allergic to you, so I've been crying."
Duan Xingzhi had quietly slipped back to the second floor. Pei Zhi's mood became very good. He asked Xu Youling: "If I stop you from crying, will you agree to be with me?"
Although he was still wondering when Xu Youling became allergic to him, Pei Zhi always felt that this was not the case.
Xu Youling didn't answer, so Pei Zhi stood there stubbornly, not repeating the question, but just waiting patiently. Xu Youling had no choice but to say, "Can you please not mention the matchmaking?"
"No." Pei Zhi thought Xu Youling might be crying because she was cold, so he naturally took a step into the store and closed the door tightly, even though it was early summer. "I came here to match with you."
Xu Youling just shook his head.
The sun outside gradually rose higher, the streets began to come alive, and the shadows of people coming and going were cast into the small shop.
Pei Zhi stood there, and asked in frustration: "Then can I pursue you?"
-
This was the conversation Lu Heng heard when he hurried downstairs.
He recognized the tall sentry in front of him without a doubt, and he remembered that when he first met Xu Youling, he was eager to find this person, who was imprisoned in the deepest cell of the White Tower, spending the rest of his life with a mentality of certain death.
He still remembered how Xu Youling's mental power was so intertwined with that of the sentry that many of the arrogant prisoners in the cell mistakenly thought that Xu Youling was Pei Zhi's guide, and only then did they give up the idea of bullying the little guide who had for some unknown reason entered the White Tower cell to do "voluntary labor."
However, at this moment, Pei Zhi was like a persistent big dog. After he had used up his share of intimate contact, he was deprived of the opportunity to even hold Xu Youling's hand. He could only lower his head and ask from a distance, "Can I pursue you?"
Xu Youling kept repeating, "Can you please stop talking?", as if these were the most hurtful words that were enough to drive Pei Zhi away.
Lu Heng then coughed: "Ahem."
Pei Zhi raised his head in dissatisfaction. Seeing that the person coming was not the sentry from before, his expression softened slightly: "What's the matter?"
He acted very confidently, as if his business was to pester Xu Youling, and that the full-time employee Lu Heng was the one who was inconsiderate.
Lu Heng took a deep breath, swallowed his anger with difficulty, and said in a very respectful tone: "Sir, the shop is about to open for business."
Pei Zhi lowered his head to look at Xu Youling's face, then raised his head and glanced at Lu Heng mercilessly: "Your store manager is crying."
It was as if it was Lu Heng's fault that Xu Youling was crying, and urging her to open the store at this time was even more wrong. He was the most considerate and kind-hearted, and treated Xu Youling the best.
"That's not what I meant." Lu Heng felt that he was speaking more and more like a customer service representative. "Sir, do you know that the store is hiring sentinel clerks? I think you can give it a try."
Pei Zhi's face darkened for a moment, then he seemed to think Lu Heng's suggestion was very good, and he lowered his head condescendingly to seek Xu Youling's opinion.
Xu Youling looked back at Lu Heng helplessly. Pei Zhi seemed to want to pull him back, but he was holding back with great difficulty.
"I have nowhere to go." He softened his voice. "Can't I stay in the inn like that sentry just now?"
Even though Pei Zhi was trying to show weakness, he still sounded stiff. His words were pleading, but his tone was commanding. Xu Youling was a little unconvinced: "Really?"
"Really." Pei Zhi was firm.
Xu Youling still didn't believe it, because Pei Zhi wouldn't be so desperate no matter what. But he was always soft-hearted towards Pei Zhi, and even though he didn't believe Pei Zhi was displaced, he couldn't bear to send him away.
"I'm not keeping you here because Bai Ta wants you to be my match, nor am I keeping you here because you have nowhere else to go." Xu Youling said stiffly.
He felt that he was lying with his eyes open. He felt that he was just jumping down the ladder offered by someone, and he could ignore Pei Zhi's straight military uniform, the stars and bars on his shoulders and say something like "you have nowhere to go".
Maybe because Xu Youling still wanted Pei Zhi to stay, she chose to play the role of the most stupid emotional loser.
Pei Zhi nodded seriously, as if he had learned some useful tricks: "Yes."
Lu Heng breathed a sigh of relief and seized the opportunity to pounce on Xu Youling, whose eyes were still red, and dragged her away, leaving Pei Zhi standing there alone, staring at the store for which he paid half of the monthly rent and which was kept clean and beautiful by Xu Youling.
Pei Zhi adapted to the new environment quickly.
He almost instantly accepted the decision to stay with Xu Youling in this way. He snapped his fingers to call out the German Shepherd, raised his chin and told it to go play with the orange cat.
Then Pei Zhi followed Xu Youling like a tail, just like a German Shepherd chasing an orange cat around the house.
"Xu Youling, I've got a number for the guest."
"Xu Youling, I'll help you move."
"Xu Youling, remember to dry your hands."
"Xu Youling, please sit down."
"Xu Youling..."
Lu Heng had never felt that the store was so noisy.
Pei Zhi hated Xu Youling so much that he wanted to tie Xu Youling to his belt. When he saw Xu Youling working, he would stand stupidly beside him and stare at him.
Xu Youling was fine, but the guest's spirit was so frightened that its eyes widened and it behaved more obediently than ever before. For the first time, it even let Xu Youling cut its nails without scratching or hurting anyone.
There were not many customers that afternoon, and Duan Xingzhi was forced by Lu Heng to practice some simple techniques in front of the operating table, of course using his own spiritual body.
Pei Zhi saw Xu Youling, also wearing oversized work clothes and giving instructions, frowned and stepped forward to block it, saying dissatisfiedly, "How can he be a dog too?"
Alaska on the console stared at Pei Zhi in confusion. Pei Zhi turned his head and waved: "Come here!"
The German Shepherd finally caught up with the orange cat and was licking its head randomly. Upon hearing what was said, it could only stride over and sit at Pei Zhi's feet.
"I can definitely wash better than him." Pei Zhi completely ignored the presence of Lu Heng and Duan Xingzhi and gently tugged at Xu Youling's sleeve. "My spirit form is also very well-behaved and cute."
These words sounded awkward coming out of Pei Zhi's mouth, but they also had a strange kind of flattery and comfort, like the hot breath of a German Shepherd spraying on Xu Youling's calves.
He persisted in releasing his presence, hoping that Xu Youling would always look at him and care about him, and not think about anything else.
In the end, the German Shepherd was the happy one, because Xu Youling still carried it to the operating table and washed the puppy until its fur was shiny.
In the evening, Song Qi got off work and came to the store as usual to touch the cats and play with the dogs. He was successfully scared by the sentry who was standing like a telephone pole in the store.
Diandiangan showed a certain degree of anxiety about the fact that there were new people coming to the store. He pulled Xu Youling aside to ask clearly that Song Qi did not live here, and only then did he seem to be relieved.
Pei Zhi explained, "I was worried that I wouldn't have a place to sleep."
"No." Xu Youling promised him.
When the shop was about to close, Pei Zhi was sent out by Lu Heng to buy something, and Duan Xingzhi was unwilling to watch the shop downstairs. Lu Heng waved her hand, and Song Qi followed her stealthily up to the second floor.
"Who is that..." Song Qi grabbed Xu Youling's sleeve in fear as he went upstairs, "Who did you offend?"
Xu Youling sat on the edge of the bed with his head down, not saying a word. Lu Heng winked at him, signaling him to speak in a low voice, and simply told Song Qi what he knew.
Although what he knew seemed to be very limited, Xu Youling had no intention of adding anything and just listened quietly.
Because those details are not important anymore, at least not to his friends, they can bring them no comfort.
Song Qi widened his eyes in disbelief: "Are you sure he remembers it?"
"I definitely remember it." Lu Heng was very sure, "No normal person would do that to a match they just met."
"He was not normal to begin with." Xu Youling said in a low voice.
"The problem is why he pretends not to know even though he clearly knows it?" Song Qi joined the staff with eagerness.
Although he felt a little upset that Xu Youling had kept this secret for so long, he had nothing to say when he saw how depressed Xu Youling was.
"You said you forcibly interfered with his mind..." Lu Heng frowned, "Did he do that on purpose to piss you off?"
"You'd think he could do this to any guide."
"Revenge for lying to him for so long."
“But he didn’t act like it.”
Xu Youling lowered his head and sniffed softly, listening to the two people talking to each other, and then slowly calmed down.
"The most important thing is your own wish." Lu Heng whispered soothingly, "If you don't want to, I will help you reject him and let him go."
