Chapter 15 Watermelon Lemon Juice
The weekend is over, and students will be back to school.
Teachers are often in a bad mood when they have to teach, especially when they have one or two naughty students in their class.
But Teacher Wang was visibly in a good mood, with a smile on her face and her skin appearing much more radiant.
"Teacher Wang, did you go on a trip this weekend?" a teacher in the office guessed.
"No," Ms. Wang replied, shaking her head. She had simply enjoyed a good weekend meal and ordered some delicious takeout.
As a first-grade elementary school student, Liu Xiaobao doesn't like school.
But today, when Wang Juan took Liu Xiaobao to school, Liu Xiaobao was quiet and well-behaved on the way, without crying or making a fuss.
It wasn't until they reached the school gate that Liu Xiaobao pouted and pointed to the shop across the street, saying, "Mom, Xiaobao wants to eat tea eggs."
Not to mention, Wang Juan was also craving some. She hadn't had tea eggs for two days, and nothing she ate for breakfast felt right.
"Okay, let's go buy it."
A whiff of tea mixed with the aroma of eggs wafted towards them, and the mother and son quickened their pace.
Tang Yiyi was eating a tea egg; she hadn't had breakfast yet.
Wang Juan swallowed hard upon seeing them, then eagerly said, "Give me six tea eggs."
There was still time, so the mother and son ate tea eggs at the restaurant.
Tang Yiyi took out the steaming hot, perfectly cooked tea eggs from the pot, put them in a plastic bag, and then handed them to the guests.
The mother and son first looked at the tea eggs they had just received. They were amber in color, very tempting, and had a rich, savory aroma.
I tapped the shell against the corner of the table and easily peeled it off. Before I could even blow on it, I instinctively lowered my head and took a bite.
The warm sauce melts in your mouth, it smells amazing! The egg white is bouncy and soft, and the yolk is very flavorful.
After eating one, my mouth wasn't very dry.
The mother and son, having devoured three tea eggs in one go, were left speechless. "I really want to eat another one!"
When paying, Liu Xiaobao licked his fingers, which were covered in sauce. Wang Juan took him to school and then went to work.
After the first class, the students all lay on their desks. It was hot outside, and only the classroom had air conditioning. They didn't want to move around or play around, as that would expend their energy.
Liu Xiaobao secretly took out a tea egg from his desk; he had asked his mother to buy him another one this morning.
Now that I'm tired after class, I just want to finish this tea egg.
A fragrant aroma of braised meat wafted over, and my deskmate, who was still lying down, smelled it and realized that Liu Xiaobao was eating eggs.
The egg has deep lines, like the webs cast by Spider-Man.
"Liu Xiaobao, what kind of eggs are you eating?"
The sudden sound almost startled Liu Xiaobao. He saw his deskmate staring intently at the tea egg in his hand, almost drooling.
He proudly said, "These are tea eggs that my mom bought for me."
His deskmate couldn't hear what he was saying at all; his eyes were only on the tea egg, its brownish white showing through, looking incredibly tempting, so different from the eggs he'd eaten before.
Liu Xiaobao carefully protected his tea egg, worried that his classmate would snatch it away at any moment.
Under the drooling gaze of his deskmate, Liu Xiaobao took a big bite of the tea egg, chewing it, and his lips involuntarily got some dark brown sauce on them.
The aroma was so strong that his deskmate was envious. If Liu Xiaobao hadn't only had one egg, he would have wanted to buy it.
Liu Xiaobao ate with increasing relish, much to the dismay of his classmates around him.
I'm so hungry! Liu Xiaobao is so mean, he eats eggs that taste better than fried chicken legs!
Tang Yiyi held the watermelon down with one hand and cut it open with the other. Then she removed the rind and put the flesh into the juicer. Next, she cut open a washed lemon, removed the flesh, and put it into the juicer along with the watermelon flesh. She then turned it on.
The drink she prepared today is watermelon lemon juice. In addition to selling food, restaurants also need to offer drinks and soups to increase the variety of ingredients and attract more customers.
In her past life, Tang Yiyi often went to a noodle shop to eat noodles, not only because the noodle shop had a wide variety of noodles that she could eat without getting tired of them, but also because the drinks they offered were freshly made and tasted good, unlike the milk tea sold in most shops.
She strained the squeezed watermelon and lemon juice through a sieve to make it smoother, and then added one or two mint leaves to the juice.
After tasting it, Tang Yiyi thought it was alright.
Then he took a cup and delivered it to the owner of the dumpling shop next door.
"I just tried making watermelon lemonade, Mr. He, would you like to try it?"
The dumpling shop owner usually takes good care of Xiaoyu. Sometimes when Xiaoyu doesn't have time to eat breakfast, the owner will let him take some dumplings to school, saying that studying is important, but students shouldn't go hungry.
"Are you using me as a guinea pig?" Mr. He joked, but still smiled and accepted the watermelon lemon juice.
The drink in front of me looks no different from watermelon juice, with white bubbles rising in the bright red juice, garnished with mint, and smells very fragrant.
The dumpling shop owner lowered his head and took a sip. The first taste was the unique sweetness of watermelon, followed by a slight sourness, like lemon. The sourness became quite intense towards the end, but the sweet and sour flavors were very appetizing and refreshing, a perfect match for summer.
"It's delicious!" Boss He praised, then couldn't wait to drink it again, gulping it down without stopping.
Seeing that he enjoyed the drink, Tang Yiyi felt relieved.
Back at the restaurant, she listed the drink on a food delivery platform without editing or adding filters to the photo.
On the stairs, students were chasing and playing, including Little Tyrant Qian Duoduo. His family was as well-off as his name suggested, and he never had to worry about food or drink.
Several friends surrounded him, all discussing what they wanted to eat for lunch.
"A burger joint opened near my house, and I want my parents to take me there for fried chicken!"
"What's so great about fried chicken? Congee is much better!"
"You don't know this, do you? No child can resist fried chicken. The crispy skin and the tender meat inside!"
"..."
The students got more and more excited as they talked, as if they were about to drool.
Qian Duoduo didn't join them, remaining unusually silent. He was used to eating too many things, and his parents would find a way to get whatever he wanted to eat. He couldn't understand what was so good about fried chicken and porridge.
"Duoduo, what are you having for lunch?"
"I don't want to eat," Qian Duoduo said honestly with a sigh.
Just like yesterday, the restaurant is serving pickled pepper shredded potatoes again today. The customers who ordered it yesterday all said it was good and gave it a five-star review. They even commented that they hope to eat pickled pepper shredded potatoes every day.
Tang Yiyi silently peeled the washed potatoes and then cut them into thin strips. Her hands produced distinct potato strips that quickly rose to a small mountain. She then soaked the potato strips in water.
Tang Yiyi chopped up all the red and green peppers and set them aside. Before any customers arrived, she stretched her aching neck and did some exercise. Then she wiped the table clean and waited for customers to come and order.
A customer ordered pickled pepper shredded potatoes, and chose medium spicy.
Tang Yiyi returned to the restaurant, turned on the stove to heat the wok, then poured in oil and added the ingredients, stir-frying over medium heat.
As soon as the bell rings, students run to the cafeteria for lunch, while day students run to the school gate to wait for their parents to pick them up.
Qian Duoduo glanced at his watch; his dad was late and hadn't come to pick him up yet.
Just as he was feeling anxious, a rich aroma wafted from the shop across the street.
Qian Yi came to pick up his son and found it amusing to see his dazed look. "Qian Duoduo, come home for dinner."
“Dad, I don’t want to go home,” Qian Duoduo replied instinctively, pointing to the shop across from the school gate, “I want to eat there.”
Qian Yi was still willing to listen to his son's ideas, "Let's go see what good food we can get."
The closer he got, the stronger the aroma became. It was the smell of food, and Qian Yi was speechless. The restaurant's decor was average, but the food was really delicious.
Tang Yiyi cooked a plate of pickled pepper shredded potatoes, packaged it, placed the order, and waited for the delivery person to come and pick it up.
At this moment, Qian Yi and his son came over and asked, "Boss, what dish were you making just now?"
"Pickled pepper shredded potatoes".
"I'll have some pickled pepper shredded potatoes, I'll eat here," Qian Yi thought for a moment, "Boss, what other signature dishes do you have?"
Ordering just one dish is a bit too little for two people.
Tang Yiyi smiled slightly, "You can look at the blackboard; it shows the dishes and prices."
Qian Yi then noticed that today's menu only included pickled pepper shredded potatoes, and for drinks, there was a watermelon lemon juice.
"Son, would you like some watermelon lemon juice?"
Qian Duoduo nodded heavily, smelling the aroma of the food; he was very hungry.
"Two more glasses of watermelon lemonade, less ice."
Tang Yiyi first added a small amount of ice to the watermelon lemon juice, stirred it a few times, put it into a straw, and served it to the guests.
The father and son looked at each other in silence, feeling a bit thirsty. They took big gulps of watermelon lemon juice through the straws. The cool, sweet and sour juice had a perfect balance of sweet watermelon and sour lemon. Moreover, the juice was pure and delicious, without any high-tech additives. It was perfect for the hot weather.
