Chapter 24 Steamed Egg Custard
Shi Yi paced back and forth at the time clock, glancing at the company entrance every now and then.
Suddenly, someone tapped him on the shoulder. Turning around, he saw Gu Dawei winking at him, "Hey bro, aren't you going to the cafeteria for lunch? What are you doing here?"
"Waiting for your girlfriend?"
Shi Yi: "I ordered takeout, come down and get it."
"Oh ho, is it going to be that restaurant again?" Gu Dawei boldly guessed, becoming more and more convinced that he might be right.
Seeing that Shi Yi nodded, Gu Dawei, who had come down in the elevator, was not in a hurry to go to the cafeteria for dinner. Instead, he waited for the takeout with Shi Yi.
Not long after, a deliveryman ran over, "Who is Mr. Shi? The last three digits of your license plate..."
"My takeout!" Shi Yi stepped forward, took the takeout, and a smile returned to her gloomy face. Finally, she could have a proper lunch.
The takeout bag couldn't block out the aroma of the food. Gu Dawei asked, "What did you order?"
"Just pickled cabbage stir-fried with minced meat," Shi Yi's eyes lit up. "I've never had it before, I don't know what it tastes like."
Gu Dawei swallowed hard as he tasted the stir-fried pickled cabbage with minced meat; he really liked this dish.
He immediately changed direction and didn't go to the cafeteria. He quickly found Tangjia Restaurant on his phone and placed an order.
Hehe, he also ordered pickled cabbage and minced meat stir-fry, so the taste shouldn't be too bad.
As Shi Yi walked into the office carrying takeout, her face beaming with a radiant smile.
Upon seeing this, the other colleagues were speechless: "..." Did you get paid? Or is it paid leave? Why are you so happy?
I had just sat down when my stomach started growling.
Work makes people hungry, and Shi Yi couldn't wait to pick up her chopsticks and treat herself to something good.
The stir-fried minced pork with pickled cabbage in the lunchbox looked very appealing; the brown pickled cabbage looked authentic, and the minced pork was clearly granular.
Upon taking the first bite, Shi Yi felt as if his soul had been cleansed, and sunlight had shone into the dim world. The taste was absolutely amazing.
The pickled cabbage is sour and spicy, very refreshing, and the more you eat, the more fragrant it becomes. The minced meat mixed in is rich in flavor and delicious.
The colleague at the next workstation just came back from the cafeteria. Seeing how Shi Yi ate, he knew how delicious the food was! It's a shame Shi Yi isn't a food vlogger.
"Shiyi, what are you eating? It smells delicious," his colleague said, staring unabashedly at the food in his bowl.
Forced to stop, Shi Yi quickly replied, "Stir-fried minced pork with pickled cabbage."
Upon hearing this, the colleague clicked his tongue twice in his mind. How delicious could stir-fried sauerkraut with minced meat be? The ingredients are simple and don't cost much. That's why Shi Yi ate it with such gusto.
Soon, the colleague became restless; the food smelled delicious, and he had no interest in working.
I wanted Shi Yi to eat on the balcony, but she doesn't eat strong-smelling things like durian or snail rice noodles.
Shi Yi was glad that the restaurant always served small portions of food; otherwise, if he had been eating big bites, he would have finished the food in just a few bites.
Gu Dawei brought over the takeout, but Shi Yi had already finished her meal and was quite full.
"You're finished eating? I'm going to have sauerkraut and minced pork rice!" Gu Dawei said smugly as he sat down.
Gu Dawei took a big bite, stuffing his mouth full of food. The authentic and delicious flavor of the pickled cabbage made him crave it for a while.
The refreshing taste of pickled cabbage and the savory aroma of minced meat combine to create a unique culinary experience.
Gu Dawei enjoyed the meal, but it made his other colleagues in the office, including Shi Yi, very envious.
Shi Yi: "..." He just ate, how come he's hungry again?
Gu Dawei was so engrossed in the delicious food that he forgot himself and asked the owner to add more rice. Afraid that he wouldn't have enough to eat, he made a note asking the owner to add more rice.
There was plenty of food, enough to go well with rice. He also added a fried egg, picked out the golden-yellow omelet, and took a bite.
Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a runny egg yolk center, the texture is smooth and delicate.
In the end, Gu Dawei didn't even let go of the last bits of pickled cabbage stuck to the bottom of the bowl, feeling satisfied.
It wasn't even lunchtime yet, and Tang Yiyi had already cooked dozens of servings of stir-fried minced pork with pickled cabbage, her back drenched in sweat.
The only thing providing a slight coolness in the entire kitchen was a fan.
"Sister, let me fan you," Xiaoyu suddenly said, bringing over a palm-leaf fan to fan her.
Large beads of sweat appeared on Xiaoyu's forehead. Even though he was also very hot, he still fanned her to cool her down.
Tang Yiyi was touched, and the iron pot in her hands seemed less heavy. "My dear Xiaoyu, it's not hot, sister~"
What an adorable child! How could he be a cold and ruthless supporting character in a book?
When Tang Yiyi first read this novel, she was moved by the male supporting character, feeling that he shouldn't have ended up like that after such a tragic childhood!
Around one o'clock, Tang Yiyi cooked three dishes and called the two of them to eat.
Before even touching her chopsticks, Song Man exclaimed, "Sister, your shop is doing really well!"
Tang Yiyi is one year older than Song Man.
"Can you manage?" Tang Yiyi asked casually, worried that Song Man wouldn't be used to it.
"It's fine, I'm used to it."
Tang Yiyi nodded, "Let's stop talking now and eat."
Song Man thought the boss's cooking skills were top-notch. For example, the stir-fried lotus root slices with meat on the table were crisp and refreshing, and the meat slices were the right size, tender, fragrant and spicy, making it a great dish to eat with rice.
Xiaoyu's cheeks were bulging as he scooped up a spoonful of steamed egg custard and put it in his mouth. The steamed egg custard had a refreshing taste and wasn't greasy at all.
Most importantly, it melts in your mouth, making it perfect for kids who are still losing their baby teeth—delicate and bouncy. A drizzle of soy sauce on top gives it a savory and flavorful taste. Served with fluffy white rice, it's absolutely delicious!
"Sister, the egg is delicious~" Xiaoyu said with a grin that made his teeth disappear.
"Yes, every dish is delicious!" Song Man said sincerely.
Tang Yiyi was in a good mood, "Eat as much as you like."
Cooking is physically demanding, but it's mentally rewarding, especially when you receive recognition.
After tidying everything up, Tang Yiyi filled a bucket with water, soaked a handkerchief, added a few drops of dish soap to the bucket, and stirred it a few times until foam appeared on the surface.
There were no customers at the moment, so she could sit down and rest for a while, but Song Man came over and said, "Sister, what are you doing? Is there anything I can help you with?"
Song Man hoped to do more work and prove herself to the boss. After all, the boss offered good benefits and the food was delicious.
"Clean the range hood," Tang Yiyi wrung out the towel, moved a stool over and stood on it. "I need to call you. Go and rest for a while."
"good."
Range hoods are always a major source of grime in the kitchen. They accumulate a lot of stains from daily use and need to be cleaned weekly.
After disassembling the machine, she first poured out the dirty oil, and then carefully wiped it clean.
Cleaning things is tiring, but it's very relaxing and therapeutic after you've wiped them clean.
A little while later, Xiaoyu woke up after resting. Tang Yiyi took a bag of lychees out of the refrigerator. "Xiaoyu, take these lychees to school and share some with your classmates and teachers."
Xiaoyu took it and waved goodbye, "Bye-bye, sister, Xiaoyu is going to school."
At this moment, Song Man, who was wiping the table, said with some envy, "Sis, your brother is so cute!"
With ten minutes left before class, Xiaoyu started running. He saw Teacher Wang getting out of the car on the way, and exclaimed, "Hello, Teacher Wang!"
When Teacher Wang saw it was Xiaoyu, she smiled and said, "Xiaoyu, did you come to school from the restaurant?"
Xiaoyu nodded, remembering his sister's words, took out a few lychees from the bag and handed them over, "Teacher eats lychees, my sister asked me to bring these."
Teacher Wang smiled and accepted the lychees, saying, "Thank you, Xiaoyu, for the lychees."
Xiaoyu smiled shyly, then ran off.
When Teacher Wang arrived at the office, she took out several lychees from her bag; each lychee was plump and full.
"Teacher Wang, where did you buy the lychees?" Teacher Chu asked as she walked over.
"It was given to me by my students," Teacher Wang said proudly, as if he could see his students succeed.
Teacher Chu sighed, "I really envy you, Teacher Wang, for receiving things from your students, unlike me who only has a pile of homework on my desk."
"Stop complaining, have a lychee."
Teacher Wang peeled the lychee, revealing its glossy white flesh and a small black seed, looking very plump. Biting into it, the juice was sweet and refreshing, almost bursting with flavor.
Her eyes curved involuntarily, and she ate several in a row.
Around 5 p.m., Teacher Wang considered whether to eat at the cafeteria or order takeout. After hesitating for only a few seconds, she thought that she ate the same dishes several days a week in the cafeteria, so ordering takeout was the better option.
The restaurant had added new dishes, "steamed egg custard" and "stir-fried minced pork with pickled cabbage," both of which she loved, so she ordered one of each. The bill came to just over twenty yuan, which was a great deal.
During the break between classes, some parents didn't want to go home to prepare dinner, so they took their children to eat at a restaurant.
Having prepared the ingredients in advance, Tang Yiyi wasn't flustered. The process of chopping, stir-frying, and cooking was imprinted in her mind, and in just a few minutes, a delicious and visually appealing dish was ready.
Song Man was packing takeout. To prevent the food from spilling, she sewed an insulating film around the outside of the food container to secure it, and then used a stapler to sew the bag opening to the order, so that she could wait for the delivery person to come and pick it up.
