Chapter 27 Meat and Egg Powder
The next day, the two dressed simply before going out.
Tang Yiyi had booked her tickets in advance, so she and Xiaoyu were queuing at the ticket checkpoint.
The amusement park was packed with people on the weekend, mostly adults and children.
Tang Yiyi bought Xiaoyu an ice cream, and Xiaoyu happily licked and nibbled at it. The milky white ice cream had a strong milky aroma and was sweet, which suited a child's taste perfectly.
Even though it was hot, Xiaoyu felt a cool breeze. The soft and delicate cakes brought a refreshing coolness, slowly melting between her lips and teeth.
Once inside the amusement park, Xiaoyu was visibly in a good mood, and he started talking more, chattering like a cheerful bird.
Xiaoyu played on several amusement park rides in a row without feeling tired.
Tang Yiyi is doing alright; she's honed her skills during her time at the restaurant.
Suddenly, Xiaoyu pointed to the roller coaster track and asked, "Sister, what's this?"
"Xiaoyu, would you like to try a roller coaster?"
Xiao Yu didn't say anything. He first observed the roller coaster falling from the sky, and the tourists on it screamed.
It looks quite relaxing and stress-relieving.
Tang Yiyi had a good experience riding roller coasters.
Xiao Yu's eyes lit up with excitement, and he seemed eager to try.
Tang Yiyi took his hand and went to buy the tickets. They waited for the tourists on the roller coaster to get off before they went on.
While riding the roller coaster, she kept an eye on Xiaoyu's reaction, worried that he would be scared, and even thought about how to comfort him.
But Xiaoyu is very brave, like a little man.
After the roller coaster came to a safe stop, they got off. Tang Yiyi gently patted Xiaoyu's head and praised, "Xiaoyu, you're great, very brave!"
They planned to find a place to rest for a while before continuing their sightseeing.
"Boss?!" A somewhat familiar voice came from behind.
Tang Yiyi turned around and saw that the person who came was a regular customer who often came to buy tea eggs.
Today was a day off, and Wang Juan brought her son to the amusement park. Unexpectedly, she saw a familiar figure on the way. It turned out to be the restaurant owner.
"Boss, why was your restaurant closed yesterday?" Wang Juan couldn't help but ask, her tone somewhat reproachful.
She woke up early in the morning and happily took her little one to eat tea eggs, but when they got to the restaurant, they found it was closed! There was a sign on the door that said, "Closed for the weekend, will resume normal business on Monday."
Her heart broke instantly, and Xiao Bao cried even more, and it took her a lot of effort to calm him down.
Unexpectedly, arriving at the amusement park would attract questions and complaints from diners. Tang Yiyi apologized, "We're too busy from Monday to Friday, so we'd like to rest for two days to recharge before starting our business again."
That makes sense, but Wang Juan was still furious.
In response, Tang Yiyi could only say, "I'm really sorry, I'll make extra tea eggs tomorrow morning, I promise there won't be any short of tea eggs."
Since the boss had already said that, Wang Juan couldn't dwell on it any longer.
Around noon, Tang Yiyi found a restaurant to eat at. She didn't have time to cook at home, so she ate nearby.
When the waiter brought the menu, Tang Yiyi was dumbfounded. Some dishes cost two digits, while others cost three digits.
Considering the restaurant's prices, which average around 20 yuan per person, this restaurant is a total rip-off!
But there was nothing they could do. Xiao Yu had walked with her all the way and was tired and hungry, so Tang Yiyi ordered three dishes.
When the dishes were served, the portions were pitifully small. Tang Yiyi, being a picky eater, noticed that the slices of meat were too thick and difficult to chew.
Even Xiaoyu, who usually has a good appetite, said, "The sliced meat tastes fishy, not as good as the meat my sister makes!"
Since they had at least spent the money, they couldn't waste it, so the two of them gritted their teeth and ate all the food.
After the weekend, Monday arrived.
It was another beautiful day, with the warm morning light shining in. Tang Yiyi had been going to bed early and waking up early lately, and she was in great spirits every day.
After washing up, I cooked noodles and two poached eggs, then went to wake Xiaoyu up.
Xiaoyu was sleeping soundly, and to be honest, she didn't want to disturb her, but she had to go to school after all.
"Get up, Xiaoyu."
"Sleepy," Xiaoyu whimpered, and after more than ten seconds, he struggled to roll over and get out of bed.
Xiaoyu usually doesn't have a good appetite in the morning, but he was different. He ate as usual, finishing two bowls of noodles before running off to pack his schoolbag.
Tang Yiyi packed everything up and sent Xiaoyu to school.
Then she went to the market to start her big grocery shopping trip. Eggs were a must-buy, as she needed them for both stir-fries and tea eggs. Pork and other meats looked fresh, so she bought several kilograms at once. Luckily, she had a bicycle, so she could put them in the basket; otherwise, it would have been difficult for her to carry them all back by herself.
In addition, Tang Yiyi carefully selected the red beans and rock sugar for making the soup, buying more than half a bag.
After walking for a while, I saw an old lady selling rice noodles. The rice noodles were pure white, without any black spots, and looked clean and fresh.
She stepped forward and asked, "Grandma, how much are these rice noodles?"
"What?" Grandma was hard of hearing and didn't hear what she said.
Tang Yiyi had no choice but to repeat herself, raising her voice.
This time, Grandma heard clearly and gestured with her fingers, "Homemade rice noodles, five yuan a pound."
The quality was worth the price. Tang Yiyi squatted down and started picking out rice noodles from the basket.
Finally, she returned to the restaurant with her bicycle full of purchases. After parking it so as not to disturb others, she took out her keys from her bag and pushed the roller shutter door up.
What comes into view are neat tables and chairs, clean and free of dust, which is pleasing to the eye.
After setting out the ingredients, Tang Yiyi first soaked the rice noodles in hot water to speed up the process.
The restaurant was running out of eggs quickly lately, so she put the eggs in the kitchen for easy access.
As usual, I put tea leaves, spices, and water into the rice cooker, added washed eggs, and started cooking the tea eggs.
Since the tea eggs wouldn't be ready for another half hour, she quickly went to write down today's menu.
Next, wash the pork you bought, chop it into minced meat, add a spoonful of oil, cooking wine, light soy sauce, etc. to the minced meat, mix well and marinate.
After heating the pan, Tang Yiyi scooped out the water before adding oil—more than usual for cooking. She then cracked two eggs against the side of the pan, letting them fall to the bottom. Once they were poached, she poured in hot water, added salt and soy sauce, and used a spatula to break the poached eggs into small pieces. Next, she added the marinated minced meat, stirring constantly while adding a little pepper and sprinkling on chopped green onions. The aroma gradually wafted out and became stronger as the minced meat changed color, then it was taken out of the pan.
The rice noodles are cooked separately, then scooped out and topped with meat and egg soup—it's incredibly delicious!
Wang Juan and Liu Xiaobao, who came to buy tea eggs: "..." Is it reasonable for it to smell so good? And wait, this smell doesn't seem like tea eggs.
With anticipation in their hearts, the two entered the restaurant.
Tang Yiyi was holding a bowl of meat, egg, and rice noodles, and was about to let the owner of the dumpling shop next door try it.
Seeing the guests arrive, it was the same mother and son from yesterday. "What would you like to eat? Or perhaps some tea eggs?"
"No, no..." Wang Juan stared at the meat and egg rice noodles in her bowl, feeling very tempted, and asked, "What kind of rice noodles are these?" The restaurant didn't seem to have sold rice noodles in the morning.
"Meat and egg powder".
"Mom, I want to eat tea eggs," Liu Xiaobao said quietly, tugging at his mother's clothes.
Wang Juan then remembered her real purpose: she had brought her son to buy tea eggs, something they had been thinking about for a long time over the weekend.
"Take six tea eggs and..." Six tea eggs are enough for them, but this bowl of meat and egg noodles looks really good.
That's all.
The mother and son found a place to sit down, and Tang Yiyi packed them some tea eggs and brought them over.
Just then, Song Man came over and saw Tang Yiyi. "Good morning, Yiyi!"
Tang Yiyi didn't know how to process the meat and egg powder, so here comes the guinea pig.
"Song Man, have you had breakfast?"
Song Man, who never eats breakfast, shook her head. She hasn't eaten breakfast since starting university, even if it's 8 a.m.
"Alright, this bowl of meat and egg noodles is yours."
Wang Juan was eating a tea egg when she saw Xiao Bao across from her smacking his lips and enjoying it. She turned her head and saw Song Man at the next table picking up rice noodles and putting them into her mouth.
It wasn't that she was tired of tea eggs. The dark tea eggs didn't have any strange smells, like the unpleasant smell of Chinese medicine. The aroma of the braising sauce and the fragrance of the egg blended together, and she never got tired of eating them.
It's the meat and egg noodles that are so tempting, with their perfect color, aroma, and taste, that it's hard to ignore!
After finishing the tea egg in her hand, she got up and went to the counter. "Boss, another meat and egg noodle soup, I'll eat it in the shop."
The meat and egg noodles on the blackboard cost nine yuan a serving, which isn't expensive.
"Okay, you can get your side dishes at the front desk."
There weren't many side dishes. Wang Juan took a small bowl. The pickled chili peppers were both spicy and fragrant. She and Xiao Bao could both handle spicy food. She scooped out two spoonfuls, added some other side dishes, and returned to her seat satisfied.
Tang Yiyi served the meat and egg noodles in a large round porcelain bowl, careful not to burn the customers. There weren't many customers at the moment, so she carefully carried it over.
Enjoy your meal.
Wang Juan said "thank you" and started sharing rice noodles with Xiao Bao. Xiao Bao ate from a small bowl, while she put some egg and minced meat into the small bowl, then poured in some slightly hot soup, saying, "Blow on it before you eat."
With that said, Wang Juan couldn't wait to start eating. The smooth, white rice noodles, paired with distinct pieces of minced meat and a bright yellow, tender egg, looked very appetizing.
She blew on the rice noodles to cool them down, and then picked them up to let them cool. The aroma that wafted into her nose was so strong. Wang Juan couldn't remember the last time she had eaten rice noodles.
The rice noodles were indeed tender and smooth yet chewy, with a subtle rice aroma that made them more and more delicious with each bite.
The minced meat is tender and smooth, with a slightly salty and savory flavor. After fully absorbing the broth, it becomes incredibly flavorful. The eggs are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with soft egg whites and a creamy yolk that leaves you wanting more.
They couldn't stop eating, even though it was a bit hot and they were sweating on their noses and backs, but that didn't dampen their enthusiasm for the noodles.
Wang Juan was still thinking about the pickled chili peppers, so she poured the pickled chili peppers from the small bowl directly onto the rice noodles, stirred it a few times, and the soup base turned bright red. She took a sip and found it still very fresh.
The addition of chili sauce enriches the texture of the rice noodles, making them fragrant and spicy, appetizing and refreshing. The chili peppers are also delicious, fragrant and spicy, unlike industrially produced chili peppers which are dry and lack aroma.
After finishing their rice noodles, the mother and son were both very full, but they still had an urge to eat more.
Wang Juan had only one thought in her mind: How did they make this meat and egg noodle soup? It's so damn delicious!
