Chapter 490 Yunnan-Myanmar Highway
Speaking of the Songshan Campaign, the first thing to mention is Yunnan's anti-Japanese lifeline.
In Chinese mythology, most gods come from the mortal world.
If Yugong moving the mountains is a myth, then Yunnan's Yunnan-Myanmar Highway is the story of a mortal becoming a god.
After the full outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, in order to prevent aid materials from entering China, the Japanese invaders almost cut off all port and land transportation.
So Yunnan began to build this Yunnan-Myanmar highway for transporting materials in November 1937.
The Yunnan-Myanmar Highway is more than 1,400 kilometers long, equivalent to the distance from Beijing to Shanghai.
At that time, almost all the young men in western Yunnan had joined the army.
The people responsible for building the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway were 200,000 elderly people, women and children, the youngest of whom was a 6-year-old baby with slugs hanging from his nose.
It was these old, weak women and children who brought their own dry food and bedding and in just nine months, hand-carved out a Yunnan-Myanmar Highway that crossed six mountains, five rivers, eight cliffs, and 80% of them were high mountains and steep ridges.
During the entire Anti-Japanese War, the supplies entering China from the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway accounted for 90% of all the aid supplies.
After the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway was built, in order to cut off this lifeline of the Anti-Japanese War, the Japanese invaders continuously sent planes to bomb the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway, and it was these old, weak women and children who built the road under the bombardment.
In 1942, the Japanese invaders invaded western Yunnan, occupied the west bank of the Nujiang River, and entrenched themselves on Songshan Mountain, thus interrupting the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway.
In the following two years, the Japanese invaders built a fortress in Songshan Mountain, which was easy to defend and difficult to attack, and strangled the throat of the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway.
In June 1944, the National Army decided to counterattack western Yunnan and sent 20,000 expeditionary troops to attack Songshan Mountain.
However, because the Japanese invaders occupied advantageous high ground, they also had military fortresses and advanced weapons.
The attacking expeditionary troops had to charge from bottom to top under artillery fire, so that the entire counterattack was extremely difficult.
Countless soldiers fell on the way to charge. For a while, the top of Songshan Mountain was covered with blood, and the soldiers suffered heavy casualties.
In order to launch a general attack on the Japanese invaders in Songshan with superior forces, the expeditionary army finally decided to open up the age limit for recruiting soldiers, which led to the 7,000 child soldiers in Songshan!
Most of these child soldiers were orphans whose parents died in the early days of the War of Resistance. As the relatives of martyrs, they followed the troops everywhere.
If it were modern times, at their age, they should have been studying in school classrooms, or acting cute around their parents, enjoying the happy childhood.
But now they have to use their young bodies to defend the country's territory, carrying rifles taller than themselves, and bravely charging towards the enemy's artillery fire.
Mr. Kissinger also wrote this passage for the Battle of Songshan.
I think the most fortunate people in China are the people born here. The safety of the country depends on the brave people among them.
However, who would have thought that the warriors of China were actually a group of babies!
We were fortunate to be born in a peaceful era. It is hard to imagine that there were more than 7,000 children in the past, the elders were less than 15 years old, and the youngest were only 9 years old. They held up long guns taller than their bodies, resolutely faced the enemy's artillery fire, and vowed to fight with their lives!
However, those patriots were not afraid of the great cause, and no one was afraid of shrinking. They only ended with heroic and heroic!
Thinking about it, Jiang Wanwan couldn't help but tears up.
She found that since she traveled to the trial world, she seemed to want to cry every day.
But many times, Jiang Wanwan really couldn't help it.
Child soldiers, what a childish term, many people today probably have never heard of it, right?
Jiang Wanwan had only heard of it before, but now she is about to see it with her own eyes!
Nowadays, even a twenty-year-old is still just a child in the eyes of his parents.
But now on Songshan Mountain, there will be a group of children in their teens, carrying the national hatred and family feuds of the nation, charging into the gunfire with their tender bodies.
Jiang Wanwan was filled with mixed feelings, her eyes reddened, and she was silent for a while.
The sister-in-law next to her could not understand the sudden change in the heavy expression of this bright person in front of her.
She took a few steps forward hesitantly and asked her initial doubts: "Who are you? Why are you here? And your house, wasn't there last night?"
Whether it was the house or the people that suddenly appeared, they all revealed something abnormal and were out of tune with the surroundings.
This is why the sister-in-law was so alert. She had to find out the specific situation so that she could report to the soldiers if something was wrong.
The voice of the question pulled Jiang Wanwan out of her emotions.
She also realized that she had to solve the problem in front of her first before she would have the opportunity to understand the details related to the Battle of Songshan.
If there was enough time, Jiang Wanwan was confident that she could explain the strangeness of herself and the supermarket and gain everyone's trust.
However, at this moment, she was anxious and really didn't want to waste her breath.
So she chose the simplest and fastest way.
Jiang Wanwan directly mobilized the faith and supernatural powers in her body.
Her body soared into the air, floating in the air. A blazing fireball appeared on her outstretched right hand.
"This... this..." The elder sister-in-law, who witnessed all this, was so shocked that she couldn't speak.
Jiang Wanwan casually swung the fireball in her hand onto the loess road outside the supermarket, creating another pit on the uneven road surface.
Then, she spoke with authority, "I am a cultivator. I calculated last night that there would be trouble here, so I brought supplies to help."
As a Chinese, Jiang Wanwan knew very well what identity she should claim to make ordinary people believe and obey.
Sure enough, after hearing this, the elder sister-in-law's legs softened and she wanted to kneel on the ground and kowtow in fear.
He was still shouting, "Immortal, hello to the Immortal!"
Jiang Wanwan just wanted an identity that would convince people, so she naturally wouldn't really accept the other party's kowtow.
She flew out of the supermarket at an extraordinary speed and landed next to the sister-in-law, and pulled her up before she kowtowed.
"Sister-in-law, you don't have to do this, but I have some questions to ask you."
Even though the sister-in-law was standing, she still didn't dare to raise her head, and just responded, "Excuse me, Immortal."
"How far has the battle on the mountain progressed? Are all the expeditionary forces going up the mountain? Are there any soldiers at the foot of the mountain? I heard that they are recruiting child soldiers. Have all those children gone up the mountain?" Jiang Wanwan asked a series of questions.
According to historical records, the Battle of Songshan lasted for nearly three months, from June to early September, when the Japanese invaders were finally completely wiped out and the fortress was occupied.
Counting the days, August 25 should be just before the decisive battle.
The child soldiers must have been recruited, but I don't know if they have completed their training and rushed to the battlefield of Songshan?
The supermarket landed in the countryside at the foot of Songshan, a certain distance away from the main battlefield.
If there were no soldiers at the foot of Songshan, it would be a big problem for Jiang Wanwan.
Even if she was willing to take the risk and personally deliver supplies to the front line, the soldiers would have to come to the supermarket to test their own values first!
However, the artillery fire on the mountain was fierce, and it was obviously unrealistic for the soldiers to stop fighting and go down the mountain.
Facing a series of questions from Jiang Wanwan, the sister-in-law answered what she knew seriously.
"I don't know what the situation is like on the mountain, but there is a national army base not far away. They recruited child soldiers and are training there. They are said to be taken to the mountain in the next two days."
There is a base at the foot of the mountain? The child soldiers are still in training and have not gone to the battlefield?
Great, Jiang Wanwan's eyes lit up when she heard it, and she was full of relief.
