Chapter 48 What to sell at the Flying Lily Food Festival
As the carriage rolled over the muddy road swollen by heavy rain, Ye Wan gripped the edge of the seat in the carriage, deeply regretting the bowl of chikuwa miso soup he had just finished.
She felt like she was going to throw up, so she could only close her eyes to avoid looking at the bumpy scenes.
After Lily left, Youan, who had disappeared for a long time, put on a waterproof cloak, went to the winery to borrow a small carriage, and followed Lily.
The underground drainage system in the capital wasn't particularly effective. The carriage struggled through the water, jolting violently. Fortunately, Kiara was quite strong. She held up her binoculars and peered through the heavy rain at Lily, who was flying in the air.
"Oh, she's so brave."
Flying on such a rainy day was a terrifying ordeal. The heavy rain slammed into Lily's face and the strong wind tore at the broom tail, trying to flip her over in the air.
Lily had no choice but to lower her head and grit her teeth, her hands tightly gripping the broom handle like pliers. The autumn rain was so cold that it made her whole body numb. Lily instinctively wanted to give up, wanted to let the broom land, and wanted to return to the tavern, where there was a warm fireplace and delicious miso soup.
But the willpower hidden in her body awakened her, telling her not to be afraid and just to fly forward.
The signal bird released by Kiara was flying steadily in front, like the only tower in the dark ocean. Lily didn't know how long she had been flying before she finally saw the river surrounding the healing hospital.
As Kiara expected, the fragile wooden bridge had broken into two pieces. After driving the carriage all the way in the heavy rain, Youan was forced to stop by the river.
His face turned pale. "They approved this bridge for nearly two thousand gold coins, and it's only like this?"
The muddy river was surging furiously.
Kiara came down with binoculars in hand and said worriedly, "It's very dangerous to fall into such a turbulent river."
Ye Wan trembled as she got off the carriage. She took two deep breaths of the air that smelled of rain and said, "Thank you. I feel like I'm alive again."
Lily flew forward along the turbulent river. The surging water brought with it an icy chill and a damp, fishy smell that frightened her.
Suddenly, an oncoming wave knocked her down.
Lily's frightened voice was swallowed by the wind and rain. She closed her eyes tightly, and the scene of training on the floating island and falling from the sky appeared in her mind again.
The imagined icy river water did not come. Instead, a gentle and powerful halo slowly enveloped her and held her steadily in the air.
Kiara was surprised on the shore, "Who cast the buoyancy magic?"
She was surprised for a second, then realized: "It's the glowing velvet grass on the other side of the river."
The velvet grass emitted many tiny points of light, which gathered on Lily, forming a huge buoyancy.
Lily looked down at the velvet grass, whose leaves and flowers were beaten to pieces and whose stems were unable to stand upright due to the rain, but they were still shining brightly at her.
Her fear suddenly dissipated.
"Come on, Lily!" Kiara shouted from the shore.
Ye Wan finally stopped dizzying, leaned on You An's shoulder, and weakly echoed.
Lily felt full of strength. She conquered the broom with her friends cheering on. She lowered her body and flew towards the healing center like a professional ball player.
The mycelium soon fell into the hands of the nurse and was successfully used as an adhesive for the operation. The child bitten by the werewolf finally completed the operation.
Lily became the hero of the royal capital.
This girl, who was afraid of flying, fearlessly rode a broom in a thunderstorm to save a child. The story was so touching that many reporters rushed to report it.
Many citizens sent Lily letters of praise, dolls, and flowers, but the coach of the floating team rejected all the reporters' interviews.
"Next we have to prepare for the championship with all our strength," the coach said with a smile on his face.
It is worth mentioning that the serious damage to the bridge actually led to a major corruption case in the House of Lords. This incident caused a sensation in the capital and almost stole the limelight from the championship.
Of course, none of this had anything to do with Ye Wan. Probably because of the rain, she caught a cold when she came back and lay in bed groggy for the whole day.
Pancake sat by and stared at her, changing her ice pack every once in a while.
And no one knew where You An had gone. He returned home in the middle of the night, woke up the drowsy Ye Wan, and gave her a bottle of medicine.
The potion was even in a test tube, purple and bubbling.
Under Youan's stern gaze, she had no choice but to drink the bottle of potion. The taste was not that terrible, but it had a strong ginger flavor.
After drinking it, Ye Wan immediately fell asleep on the soft mattress.
Youan bent down to cover her with the quilt, hesitated for a moment, raised his hand to touch her rosy cheek, and then slowly slid it to her pale lips.
Pancake covered his eyes and squeaked in a trembling voice for a long time, as if calling him a scoundrel.
Youan turned to look at Pancake, his cold smoky crystal eyes meeting Pancake's watery eyes.
After a long moment, Youan revealed a smile that made Mouse feel something was amiss. The words that came out of his 36-degree mouth were as cold as ice and snow: "Those people are planning to appoint a rat-catching governor in the palace. They're currently eyeing a nimble black cat. Would you like to meet him?"
Muffin was petrified on the spot.
After he finished speaking, he turned around and went back to the room with a smile.
The seemingly harmless potion turned out to be surprisingly effective. The next day, Ye Wan woke up and was full of energy again. However, the potion seemed to have some side effects.
Dyed her jet-black hair a dreamy violet shade, and her head was smoking hot.
Many people came to the tavern specifically to catch a glimpse of the tavern owner with smoke coming out of his head.
Ye Wan: "...Let me ask, are you polite?"
A few days ago, she applied for a food stall outside the flying broom championship stadium. The stall fee was not expensive, only 50 copper coins. Obviously, the organizing committee was not doing this for profit, but just to give all citizens the opportunity to participate. However, she could only apply once to avoid applying repeatedly and taking up other owners' opportunities.
When the signal bird arrived at the tavern with the approval receipt from the official organizing committee, her head was still steaming.
Ye Wan put down the teacup in his hand and opened the letter.
Dear Ms. Ye Wan:
Regarding your application for an off-site food stall during the Flying Broom Championship (Shadow vs. Thunder) on October 12th, the organizing committee has reviewed and officially approved it:
After comprehensive review, your application complies with the "Regulations on the Management of Off-site Venues for the Flying Broomstick Championship". You are now authorized to set up a temporary food stall in the designated area on the day of the competition. Your stall is assigned to C-24 and its operating hours are from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
To maintain the order of the event and the audience experience, we now have the following requirements for all stall owners:
1. Selling foods with strong odors, such as rotten cheese platters, stinky fish, and bacon, is prohibited to avoid affecting visitors' viewing experience. (Alternate World Food Adventurers are also prohibited from selling foods such as snail noodles and stinky tofu)
2. Food stalls must maintain a clean environment and littering is prohibited.
3. All food must meet safety standards.
4. Do not occupy public areas.
Please bring this letter and relevant documents to the competition site to obtain a booth permit. Strictly abide by the above regulations. If any illegal operation is found, the organizing committee reserves the right to disqualify your booth and will not be allowed to reapply. Thank you for your support of this event! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the organizing committee.
You An took the letter, quickly read it, and nodded with satisfaction: "At least this time they know not to allow food like snail noodles into the competition."
Ye Wan looked at him resentfully: "I see you like eating it too."
Youan coughed loudly, turned around and went upstairs.
Ye Wan was still thinking about what to sell at the stall. She had no inspiration and decided to go out for a walk. She dragged Muffin, who was eating melon seeds at the counter, and You An, who was doing something on the third floor, out of the door.
Next door, Dorothy was trying out an old-fashioned popcorn machine. Her hand was on the crank, and countless golden corn kernels were rolling over the fire.
Soon, with a loud bang, countless popcorns exploded like a golden waterfall, and the rich, sweet aroma of butter filled the entire Honey Alley.
She grabbed a handful for Ye Wan, and the popcorn expanded into a cute ball shape. It tasted very sweet, and Pancake loved it.
"It seems that popcorn is a good choice, Dorothy." Ye Wan complimented.
"Of course." Dorothy puffed out her chest. She was wearing a large sunflower-studded skirt that made her look brighter. "I've eaten more salt than you young people have eaten rice. Bringing popcorn to sell is definitely a good idea."
"That's probably because the citizens of the royal capital prefer bread as their staple food rather than rice." Ye Wan said dryly.
Dorothy blushed and turned away abruptly.
Leo and Grandma Katya jointly set up a stall to sell jam sandwiches, and gave Ye Wan and the others a blueberry peanut flavor one, which looked very delicious.
The bread is baked crispy, and the peanut butter inside is cooked to be mellow and dense, spreading out like thick velvet. The peanuts in the peanut butter are not completely crushed, and have a granular texture of warm oil. Sea salt is also added to enhance the layering.
The sweet blueberry jam neutralizes the heaviness of the peanut butter, making every bite refreshing.
"This is so delicious!" Ye Wan exclaimed, and Grandma Katya happily stuffed another basket into her basket.
In short, after Ye Wan took Youan and Pancake for a long walk around Honey Alley and ate a bunch of things including popcorn, sandwiches, potato towers, fried chicken nuggets, and breaded hot dogs.
The two men and the rat had already held on, but Ye Wan hadn't figured out what to do.
So Youan suggested: "Go to the library and look for some food books?"
Ye Wan felt that Youan was a very reliable person.
She was not a person who particularly liked reading. Since she came to Calmet, she had not been to places like bookstores and libraries. Fortunately, Youan seemed to be very familiar with libraries. He took her and Pancake on a few subway train stops and arrived at a pure white marble tower. There were tall glowing crystal trees on both sides of the main entrance, and an oil painting hung on the door.
This painting is different from the regular oil paintings elsewhere. The person in the painting looks like Van Gogh's self-portrait, with bright and abstract colors, and the background is also a swirling vortex of colors. Moreover, the person is missing an ear at the right moment.
"Van Gogh" was concentrating on reading a book. When he saw Ye Wan and the others, he put the book down and looked them up and down in the painting:
"Come to the library? Then you have to answer questions when you enter."
He coughed pretentiously and said, "Excuse me, who is the most learned person in the world?"
Ye Wan: "How should I know?"
