Chapter 29
After bringing the little wolf back to the clinic, it wandered around quite familiarly, sniffing the medicine cabinets and rubbing the instruments, as if it were back home.
Jiang Zihan raised an eyebrow: "Since you're here, I'll give you a full physical examination and let me earn some points."
She rubbed her hands, raised her hand to update the breeding list in the system, and entered the wolf cub's mark.
The examination results surprised her a little. This little thing was incredibly healthy, and its distortion value was so low that it didn't look like it had grown up in the wild. Could it be that it had never encountered any distorted objects?
But where is there such a pure land in the land of exile?
Jiang Zihan casually took out a ball and threw it over. The little wolf's eyes lit up, and he instantly jumped up, bit the toy ball, and lay down to chew it.
She stared at the data report and fell into deep thought. It seemed that the island was not as deserted as she had imagined.
On the other side of the gathering place, other members were also busy.
There was a burst of fragrance wafting from the big kitchen. Some people were busy drying bamboo shoots, some were pickling sauerkraut, and some were preparing a big meal for lunch. The aroma of the food made people hungry.
After having enough energy, everyone finally moved out of the bungalow in the middle and began to pack up their own independent residences. Some people even took the initiative to reinforce the fence outside the gathering place and planted a batch of deformed plants as a defense.
Those alien plants are very ferocious. Any evil beast that is too blind to approach will be immediately knocked unconscious by the poison gas bombs. The higher the distortion value, the stronger the attack power. In order to be able to enter and exit easily, the members cooperated more actively with the treatment.
After Ye Sheng's ability was upgraded, he could actually communicate with animals and plants in a simple way. Occasionally, he would ask a few docile alien plants to help with work. In exchange, he would share some of the green energy nutrients.
Lu Renshuang spent the whole day in the planting area, studying how to ferment fertilizer to improve the fertility of the soil so as to resist the distortion and erosion of the surrounding land. It was obvious that the previous research on chemicals almost drove her crazy.
The cultivation of non-deformed plants in the greenhouse is going smoothly. A batch has been successfully transplanted into the fields. However, due to limited manpower, even the war beasts have been sent to inspect the planting fields.
When Zhuifeng has nothing to do, he will lie on the haystack by the field to bask in the sun, intimidating the deformed beasts that are ready to move in the dark.
Jiang Zihan opened the window and stretched, and suddenly found a layer of strange red energy floating above the greenhouse in the system's scanning perspective.
She stared at the energies for a few seconds, then glanced at a few alien plant samples piled in the corner that were about to be destroyed due to excessive deformation. Suddenly, an idea flashed in her mind: If this kind of mutation is used to deal with the enemy, wouldn’t it be considered a waste utilization?
She was about to go out when she saw another helicopter roaring across the sky. She couldn't help but squint her eyes: "The seventh one... The transportation in the central area is particularly frequent today..."
Little Wolf hadn't known when to give up playing with the ball and followed him out. His wet nose nuzzled the back of Jiang Zihan's hand. She rubbed her furry head with her backhand and muttered to herself, "Tell me, how effective are those inhibitors being researched outside? Can they really reduce distortion levels quickly?"
Ah, I really want to get one back to study. I wonder if the distortion reduction from the potions can give her some points...
Lately, she'd been busy treating members' deformities and breeding war beasts, and hadn't had time to go live in ages. Her ranking on the newly released leaderboard was dismal. The other members had managed to pick up a number of livestreaming bracelets, but it was clear they didn't have the talent for them, and viewers weren't particularly interested in a livestream of them tilling the soil in their fields all day.
"Doctor Jiang, why are you standing here?"
Lina's voice came from behind. He and Awen had just returned from the mountain, dragging a pile of prey behind them.
Jiang Zihan looked at Lin Na's live streaming bracelet, which had gone dark, and couldn't help but raise an eyebrow: "Did you just live stream?"
Lina smiled and said, "Yes, I took Didi and the others to the mountains to hunt. It's rare to see them leave the gathering place, so it's good to earn some live broadcast points."
Jiang Zihan: "How's the effect?"
"I can't even afford a tube of root inhibitor." Awen complained silently.
"Shut up!" Lina closed his bracelet in annoyance. "Compared to the chase, hunting really isn't that exciting. But with Didi and the others around, we can still get some rewards."
Jiang Zihan raised an eyebrow: "Then we should start a few more live broadcasts. Anyway, it's time for the little war beasts to go out and practice their hunting skills. If they are always kept in the gathering place, they will lose their ability to survive."
Lin Na's eyes lit up. "Really? I thought you didn't like them on camera, so you didn't take many shots of them."
"I didn't say that." Jiang Zihan said helplessly, "I'm just too busy. Otherwise, letting the outside world see that these war beasts are healthy would put their minds at ease. The point is, we really need inhibitors."
Lin Na nodded. "Indeed, but we're still far from enough points to redeem inhibitors... It would be nice if we could pick up more bracelets, but the ones in the outer areas have already been picked up. Last week, Su Su and her friends walked ten kilometers and didn't find a single one."
Ah Wen lowered his head to wipe the sniper rifle, and without looking up, he added: "Unless you go to the central area, there are more bracelets there, it depends on whether you have the ability to get it."
The three of them fell into a brief silence.
The little wolf that had run away came back with a click, holding a wild flower in its mouth and put it down next to Didi.
"Wow, he even gives flowers. What kind of dog is this?" Lina squatted down and wanted to touch the new little guy, but was immediately pulled away by Awen.
Linna frowned: "What are you doing?"
Arwen glanced down and said, "This is a wolf-like war beast."
Lin Na was stunned for a moment, his eyes fell on the war beast that was raising its head and wagging its tail wildly, his face full of suspicion. This stupid look... is it a wolf?
Jiang Zihan chuckled: "It is indeed a wolf. I don't know where it got the news, but it ran over here to eat for free."
She picked up the wild flower that was still stained with saliva and pinned it on the little wolf's head. The corners of her mouth rose unconsciously, "Dirty, come with me."
The little wolf followed her happily, and when he saw the two-legged beast coming out with the bucket, he waved at it, "Come here."
"Ao!" The little wolf barked happily and rushed over impatiently. As a result, his claws slipped and he fell into a large basin beside him. The splashing water soaked half of Jiang Zihan's body.
"Pfft!" Lin Na burst out laughing. This looked really stupid. "Doctor Jiang, go change your clothes first. Don't catch a cold. I'll keep an eye on this stupid thing for you."
Jiang Zihan wiped the water off his face speechlessly, responded with gritted teeth, and turned back to the house.
The little wolf seemed to know that he had made a mistake. His ears drooped, his wet eyes blinked, and a whimper of grievance came from his throat.
"Alright, alright, stop pretending to be pathetic." Lin Na sat down on a stone bench nearby. After learning that it was a war beast, he began to feel like chatting. These war beasts had high IQs, so they would definitely understand what he was saying. "Doctor Jiang doesn't blame you. Just cooperate with her when she takes a bath later and don't cause her any trouble."
"Hmph." Jiang Zihan came out with a special bath for war beasts. "I don't expect it to be obedient. It's not my pet anyway."
Although he said this, his actions were very gentle.
Lin Na watched the show from the side: "Doctor Jiang is tough on the outside but soft on the inside."
He only lent a hand occasionally and had no intention of taking the initiative to help take a bath. Strange war beasts hate it most when someone invades their territory. Even though he and Didi have become familiar with each other, the other party will not allow Lina to help it take a bath.
In the entire gathering place, only Dr. Jiang could obtain privileges in front of the arrogant war beast.
"If you say one more word, you will be the next one to go into the operating room." Jiang Zihan said calmly.
Lin Na quickly raised his hands in surrender. His distortion value was not too high, so he could just recuperate slowly. Of course, surgery would make him heal faster, but he was afraid of pain, and his legs went weak at the thought of surgery.
Jiang Zihan rubbed the little wolf's ears, and the water slowly washed over its fur, and the clear water soon became turbid.
Awen silently went to get a few more buckets of warm water to replace the water. After flushing it three times, the water in the basin looked less dirty.
Jiang Zihan's fingers shuttled through the wolf's fur, and the originally gray wolf revealed its original color after being washed again and again by the clear water.
The little wolf raised its head, and the water rolled down the slender line of its neck. It had pointed ears, a pink nose, clear blue eyes, and shiny white fur.
Jiang Zihan quickly searched on the system panel. Data scrolled before her eyes and she quickly located a specific category. She paused. This was actually a Moon Shadow Wolf cub?
Isn't this species considered endangered in interstellar space? How could there still be individuals surviving in the wild? Or is this a similar mutant?
The little wolf was wrapped in thick clothes and left in the sun to dry. Its fluffy fur fluttered slightly in the wind. After stretching comfortably, it soon fell into a deep sleep. Its belly rose and fell, and if you listened carefully, you could hear its leisurely snoring.
"Falling asleep?" Lu Chenyuan walked over wearing an apron and asked in a low voice.
Jiang Zihan nodded, combed its hair with his fingers, then stood up and left.
As night fell, the howling of wolves suddenly rose one after another from the distant ridges, and there was a strange rhythm in the sound.
But the little wolf, immersed in a sweet dream, just turned over, buried his nose in his front paws, and continued to sleep soundly.
Countless figures leaped down from the cliffs, sniffing the scent of their companions along the way, howling non-stop, but never getting a response, which led those figures to slowly approach the foot of the mountain.
As the night deepened, dead branches were trampled down in the bushes outside the gathering place, sharp claws scraped silently across the ground, and low panting sounds were brought by the wind.
In the clinic, Jiang Zihan was about to draw blood from Little Wolf for a test when he suddenly stopped and looked out the window with a frown: "Did you hear any unusual sounds?"
Everyone immediately became alert. Lu Chenyuan pushed the door open and walked out. The war beasts digesting their food outside the house pricked up their ears and entered a state of alert.
In the darkness of the night, pairs of dark green eyes lit up quietly.
