Chapter 3: My First Experience with Rhythm Games

Chapter 3: My First Experience with Rhythm Games

He had seen toys of this size before, but he had never seen one that lit up.

It can't be a flashy version of Huarong Road, can it?

"What is that little baby holding?"

Lu Yusheng was engrossed in the game and did not notice that Sikong Zhaixing had already circled around behind her.

Fortunately, she had years of experience in outsmarting her homeroom teacher, and quickly flipped her phone upside down and put it back on the table.

"It's nothing...you must have mistaken me."

What's this?

His eyesight was excellent, so he naturally didn't misread the scene of countless points of light falling on that board.

But when he openly asked for it, he was directly refused, and the girl tried to fool him by looking at him like she was coaxing a child.

On the surface, he was still an old man in his twilight years, so naturally he wouldn't be so fixated on competing with the little girl for such colorful children's toys, but inwardly he was completely engrossed in the game.

You won't let us play, huh?

He certainly has ways to get it.

So when Lu Yusheng finished washing the dishes by the river and subconsciously reached for his phone to relax, he found nothing.

Nowadays, her mobile phone is of great significance to her, not only for playing games to pass the time, but also for storing several photos of her and her family.

Upon realizing it might be lost, she immediately prepared to go look for it.

At first, she wondered if she had forgotten about it somewhere, so she circled the surrounding area and the way she came twice. After finding nothing, she felt much more at ease...

As we all know, if something is left at home, it's not considered lost.

On the other side, Sikong Zhaixing still managed to get the box. The process of obtaining it was completely effortless; Lu Yusheng's slight wariness was no different from simply throwing his phone in front of him.

He tried for a long time, touching and fiddling around, but he just couldn't find a way to open it.

Along the way, he pressed a button on the side, and the screen lit up, displaying a beautiful, lifelike, and adorable image of a puppy.

He could certainly admire the artist's skill, but he still couldn't find the thing Lu Yusheng was playing with.

Finally, he clicked randomly on the screen and only managed to lock the password for thirty seconds...

He decided to give up for now and observe how the girl unlocked the lock first.

*

When Lu Yusheng returned, he was somewhat surprised to see him still there: "Weren't you supposed to be on your way?"

Sikong Zhaixing smiled kindly: "My legs aren't good, I can't keep up anymore. My grandson will come to pick me up in two days."

Lu Yusheng was a little conflicted...

Although the money given beforehand was more than enough for a few days, there's only a table and two chairs here, nothing else. The old man doesn't seem to mind sleeping in the lobby.

What if you accidentally bump into or hurt her here...

Before she could hesitate, the old man spoke again, this time pointing to the table and saying, "Little girl, you're so careless. You didn't even notice that something fell there."

Lu Yusheng looked in the direction of the sound and sure enough, the phone she had been looking for was there. She quickly ran over and picked it up.

I picked it up and instinctively pressed the power button to take a look. Apart from the battery being a little low, everything seemed normal.

So he put the bag back in his pocket with peace of mind.

Sikong Zhaixing was a little disappointed that she didn't unlock it directly, but she didn't show it. Instead, she turned around and kindly asked, "What are you having for lunch, little one? I don't see a kitchen here... Grandpa has a few mutton pies here. If you don't mind, you can eat them with us."

"Thank you, Grandpa, but no need. Your grandson has already paid the bill. I'll take care of your meals."

For some reason, Lu Yusheng felt that when she mentioned "grandson" just now, the old man in front of her suddenly smiled strangely... It should just be pride, after all, the child is handsome and seems quite filial.

With an hour or two left before lunchtime, she suddenly realized she had no idea where to start if she wanted to find something to do…

The only guest at the moment doesn't need her to entertain them. The room is spotless, and she has checked the rooms upstairs. Although they are empty, they are also very clean.

It seemed there was no need to clean for the time being. She originally wanted to go to the nearby forest to find some fruit or something, but then she remembered that the old man had shown her the way to the stream where she had just washed the dishes, so she went back downstairs and found the old man sitting at the table in a daze.

Seeing his lonely appearance, Lu Yusheng also felt a little sad. Her grandmother was like that in her later years, sitting alone in an empty house all year round. Her eyesight was failing and she couldn't see the TV, so she could only listen to the radio. She didn't even have anyone to talk to.

So she went over to him and started chatting: "What does your child do?"

Knowing that she had never heard of Lu Xiaofeng, Sikong Zhaixing naturally spared no effort in promoting him.

"He's been in the underworld for so many years, and he still hasn't found a proper wife, but he keeps finding female confidantes. He always gets himself into a lot of trouble, dragging his friends down and then having to ask them for help again... Don't you think that's outrageous?"

His tone was full of disappointment and frustration.

Sure enough, even the most taciturn old man becomes talkative when children are mentioned, but as for his words...

Lu Yusheng had no prior knowledge of Lu Xiaofeng, but after listening to his opinion, which was tinged with personal bias, he concluded that Lu Xiaofeng was indeed not good.

So he chimed in, "It really shouldn't have been like this; we shouldn't have let our families worry like this."

"Sigh, he's never home, and I'm so old, I still have to chase after him." Sikong Zhaixing said, sounding distressed, but her eyes darted around quickly.

Lu Yusheng wasn't sure whether he would continue to scold him or not, and seeing that he seemed a little down, he took the initiative to change the subject, saying, "Grandpa, do you know if there are any fruit trees nearby?"

Although the old man still looked sad, he quickly perked up when he heard that she needed something and replied, "There's a jujube tree not far behind here. It's the season when it bears fruit. Do you want to pick some? I'll go with you."

Hearing this, Lu Yusheng was pleasantly surprised. She also loved eating jujubes. She had just asked casually without much hope, but she didn't expect to actually get something out of it.

So he quickly picked up the two bowls he had been eating and followed the old man's steps.

*

After the two of them enthusiastically picked a bunch of fruit and returned home, they got along quite well.

So when Lu Yusheng was caught playing games again, she didn't hide it again. Instead, when he expressed curiosity, she asked hesitantly, "Don't you find it strange?"

Sikong Zhaixing replied dismissively, "What's so special about that? Grandpa traveled all over the country when he was young, so he has a lot of knowledge. He knows things like glowing beads, talking wooden dolls, and crystal clear glass... Oh, you even have glass here."

Lu Yusheng agreed, since he had already said so...

Forget it, we're all planning to open an internet cafe in ancient times anyway, so there's no point in hiding it all the time.

So she took out her phone and proactively switched to the game's page: "Okay, if you really want to play, I'll teach you."

"Just click on the red dot that falls into this box."

"The blue one needs to be pressed down for a long time, that is, your finger stays on it."

"You have to press both of the two yellow ones when they fall together, and then slide both fingers towards the middle at the same time..."

Explaining wasn't enough, so after all the light spots had appeared once, she manipulated the masking mechanism for him again herself.

at last--

"Did you understand?"

Sikong Zhaixing nodded repeatedly, and seeing this, she found a song with simple difficulty for him to try first.

When Lu Yusheng demonstrated it earlier, his fingers moved silently behind him, indicating that he already knew the operation steps by heart.

At first, I couldn't figure out the frequency of the drops, and I wasn't very familiar with the feel of clicking, so I was still a bit clumsy.

After a few "misses", he gradually got into the swing of things, and each score was perfect, with the combo count on the screen increasing one after another.

When the final results came out, the cutoff score actually exceeded her original ranking.

She was a little surprised, but she praised him generously: "You're amazing! I didn't expect you to be so sharp-witted at your age, Grandpa. You even surpassed my previous best score."

However, this was also because the song was too easy and not very catchy; she played it twice during her beginner days and then never touched it again.

Of course, she didn't say this aloud. Seeing his confident demeanor, she said, "Would you like to try a more difficult level?"

Sikong Zhaixing had been complaining that the game was too easy, as it took two or three seconds to click on one before the next one would drop, which wasn't very fun. So when she heard Sikong Zhaixing say this, she naturally nodded in agreement.

So she took the phone back and found him a rather difficult piece of music.

But after handing over the phone, Lu Yusheng regretted it a little. She was still struggling with this song even a month after she got into it, and she wondered if the old man could keep up with the speed.

If he panics and makes a mess of things in front of the younger generation... won't he get angry and embarrassed?

Soon the soothing melody ended, and red, blue, and yellow dots fell down one after another simultaneously.

The game started in hell mode. Sikong Zhaixing's movements visibly paused for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure and his fingers flew across the screen.

bo ×36……

bo ×94……

bo ×163……

The combo never stopped, and almost every single one received a perfect rating.

Lu Yusheng, who was already prepared to comfort him, was stunned: "Your hand speed is impressive."

What is this called? Are all those "junglers getting a triple kill at level 60 with tears in their eyes" stories online true?

While his fingers were flying across the keyboard, Sikong Zhaixing managed to reply in a moment, "Hehe, this level of difficulty is a piece of cake for me."

He spoke casually, but the expression on his face began to gradually distort. From behind, Lu Yusheng could see his fingers rapidly tapping the screen, even creating afterimages.

Just kidding, he's the king of thieves, how could the king of thieves be slow!

Unfortunately, just as he was getting into the game, getting "perfect" after perfect, a pop-up window suddenly interrupted him...

"ah!"

He quickly turned to look at Lu Yusheng.

The latter took the phone and glanced at it: "It's out of battery, let's charge it first."

After saying that, she closed the low battery warning window. That's the bad thing about this game; the system doesn't automatically pause if there's an unexpected interruption. The short time she spent switching phones was enough for the game to end.

When the system prompted that the settlement had begun, Sikong Zhaixing couldn't help but lean over for another look.

He had just started to feel like he was getting into the swing of things, and hadn't made a single mistake before the interruption. The full-color bonus boxes gave him a lot of confidence in his performance.

The final score was over 200,000, just a little short of Lu Yusheng's best score.

He can now read the rankings, and after surpassing many of her friends, he's only a tiny bit away from her own profile picture from last time.

What a pity, if only I could try again...

He was a little unwilling: "Why don't you let me try again?"

Lu Yusheng shook his head and refused: "I can't play it if the battery isn't charged. If it shuts down automatically in a while, I won't be able to turn it on."

Electricity? What is electricity? Looks like I can't just take it away?

Sikong Zhaixing originally didn't plan to stay, since although the location was remote, it became too conspicuous after this building was added.

But now that he has this thing, he doesn't mind exploring it a little longer.

As for the case... let Lu Xiaoji solve it, since he can't show his face right now anyway.

After figuring it out, he cheerfully followed after them: "So when can we play again...?"
