Chapter 14 Cruel History

Chapter 14 Cruel History

Each cup of instant noodles has a different outer packaging, and the colors are all very bright.

I have no idea how this noodle container is made. It feels like paper, but when hot water is poured in, it doesn't get wet.

And this flatbread, pressed into a perfect round shape, is truly amazing.

It's amazing how many flavors can be made from such a simple noodle dish. I wonder how they're all made.

Thinking this, Guo Xin looked at Gu Xinyan somewhat embarrassed and asked:

"Um, Miss Gu, may I try two more?"

"General Guo, please feel free to make yourselves at home. You can try all of these. We can talk again after you've eaten your fill!" Gu Xinyan nodded in agreement.

Upon hearing this, Guo Xin stopped being polite and immediately picked up a cup of instant noodles, recalling Gu Xinyan's actions from earlier, and prepared the noodles in the same way.

Once you get the hang of it, you'll find that it's indeed very easy to operate, not as difficult as you might have imagined.

Surprisingly, these tiny seasoning packets can make these noodles so delicious. It's amazing!

Guo Xin ate three different flavors of instant noodles before finally stopping.

Touching his round belly, he felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction. It had been so long since he had eaten a full meal like this.

Sitting opposite him, Gu Xinyan couldn't help but admire him when she saw him showing off four buckets of instant noodles. He was really impressive! She could only show off two buckets at most.

"General Guo, how are you feeling? Does each bucket taste different? Are you getting used to it?"

Upon hearing this, Guo Xin patted her round belly, nodded repeatedly, and then replied with a smile:

"I'm used to it! It must be because I'm used to the food! This instant noodle is really good; I've never eaten such delicious food before."

It's all thanks to Miss Gu that I was able to taste this today. By the way, Miss Gu, you just said that you came from more than a thousand years in the future.

"Then I wonder what the final outcome will be for my Great Tang Dynasty and my Anxi Army in history?"

Upon hearing this, Gu Xinyan's face showed a complex expression. After a moment of silence, she slowly spoke:

"General Guo, as you've probably guessed, historical records about the future of the Tang Dynasty and the Anxi Army are filled with both glory and regret. Many things were unpredictable, especially regarding the Tang Dynasty..."

As Gu Xinyan recounted her story, a hint of sadness appeared on Guo Xin's face.

It seems the glorious Tang Dynasty has finally come to an end. For some reason, he suddenly had a bad feeling. Thinking of this, he couldn't help but ask:

"Then... what about my Anxi army? Did we ultimately... did we manage to defend Kucha and repel the invasion from the Western Regions?"

Gu Xinyan sighed and replied truthfully, "General Guo, the Anxi army has yet to receive any support from the imperial court."

But you resolutely held your ground in Kucha, defending the people of the Tang Dynasty against invasions from the Western Regions.

They never wavered, holding out for a full forty-two years, until finally... finally... the entire Anxi army perished here.

Guo Xin was filled with mixed feelings after listening to this. He knew that as soldiers, their fate was closely linked to the rise and fall of the Tang Dynasty.

With the imperial court in turmoil, things are unlikely to turn out well for them here either.

In fact, after so many attempts to contact the court without receiving any reply or support, he had already prepared himself to face death at any moment.

But upon hearing this cruel truth, he couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. It turned out that he and his brothers had persevered here for over forty years.

"General Guo, actually..."

Seeing Guo Xin's sullen and silent expression, Gu Xinyan was about to say something when Guo Xin interrupted her.

"I'm fine. It's good that I know now. No matter what the future holds, I, Guo Xin, will swear to protect this land with my life."

Behind us are countless civilians. We cannot retreat. If we can safeguard the peace of the Tang Dynasty's borders, I, Guo Xin, will have no regrets even if I die!

Looking at Guo Xin like this, Gu Xinyan couldn't help but feel a surge of respect.

The man before me, no longer young, is a true hero who dedicated his life to the stability of the frontier.

Not only him, but all the soldiers of the Anxi Army were equally admirable heroes.

They left their homeland and came to this desolate place, where they guarded it for decades. From thousands of people to just a few dozen, until they died here in battle, not a single one of them escaped.

Their food, clothing, and daily necessities were all very simple.

Suddenly, I realized that although I came here to do business, I had also brought them a kind of salvation.

I believe these lovely people will have a better future and will not end their lives tragically like those in history.

"General Guo, I brought some high-yield grain seeds from the future, as well as a lot of grain, daily necessities, and some weapons, all of which are available for trade with you."

I'm here on a mission; I need to make a deal with five hundred people in this world.

I just came in from outside, and there are quite a few soldiers in the camp. I wonder if General Guo would allow me to open a shop in the camp? I might stay here for a month!

Gu Xinyan expressed her thoughts, since even if she completed her mission, she would still need to stay here for a full month.

So she might as well just open a shop; that would make things much easier.

Upon hearing this, Guo Xin pondered for a moment, then nodded and said:

“Miss Gu, our base camp is in Kucha City, not far away. Why don’t you come with us into the city later?”

The garrison here was specifically set up because of the invasion by the Western Regions a few days ago; they'll all be returning in a few days.

I'll arrange a place for you to open a shop in the city. What do you think, Miss Gu?

Your arrival is truly a timely help. The army's provisions are running low, and I was just thinking of other solutions when Miss Gu arrived. You've really solved our urgent problem.

And also... I'd like to ask, Miss Gu, what are some of those high-yield grain varieties you just mentioned? Can we grow them here?

After speaking, he looked hopefully at Gu Xinyan across from him.

From what she just said, she will stay here for a month, if the high-yield grain seeds can really be grown.

Then...then they won't have to worry about food anymore.
