Chapter 28
The hospital ward was crowded, and the doctor issued a discharge notice early the next morning.
When Zhang Jusong came from school, Xia Zhiheng had already packed his things. He sat obediently on the bench outside the ward, holding a calculation book and a royal blue fountain pen in his hands. The golden nib of the fountain pen drew obscure mathematical formulas on the white paper.
It was common to see people playing games outside the hospital ward, but it was rare to see people doing homework. Xia Zhiheng happened to be good-looking, so every passerby would look at him. However, Xia Zhiheng was very focused when he was calculating, and he had the aura of "not paying attention to the outside world". He didn't even notice that Zhang Jusong stopped not far from the bench.
It looks quite impressive. Not wanting to disturb his train of thought, Zhang Jusong did not speak, but just tilted his head and watched silently for a while.
After a while, Xia Zhiheng raised his head, and a smile appeared on his face when he saw her.
"Sister, when did you come?"
"Not long."
Zhang Jusong handed over a cup of warm sweet soy milk: "Are you done?"
"It's just a random calculation." Xia Zhiheng took the soy milk, took a sip, and his eyes narrowed with a smile, "The soy milk my sister bought is really sweet."
"As long as you like it, it's good to fill your stomach first."
Zhang Jusong looked at the schoolbag beside him and asked, "Are you done?"
"Okay," Xia Zhiheng stood up, "Have you eaten?"
"No! Just now when I got off the bus, I saw a shop selling xiaolongbao. There were quite a lot of people there. I think it tastes good. Do you want to try it?"
“I couldn’t ask for more.”
The Xiaolongbao restaurant was hidden in the street near the hospital. It was not big, with two or three folding tables and a circle of plastic stools placed on the sidewalk. The environment was not very good, but it was full of people. Zhang Jusong and Xia Zhiheng waited for a while before they got two empty seats to sit down.
Two baskets of xiaolongbao, the aroma spreads out as soon as the bamboo steamer is opened. Dip them in some vinegar and take a bite or two of the meat, it is very fragrant.
This shop also sells tofu pudding. When Zhang Jusong ordered, he specifically asked, "I want sweet one!"
Locals usually eat salty tofu pudding, but she is not used to it and would rather eat it without any side dishes than to settle for it.
While eating breakfast, she silently counted how many dumplings Xia Zhiheng ate.
Xia Zhiheng picked up a steamed bun and brought it to his mouth. Just as he was about to eat it, he suddenly stopped: "What's wrong? Sister...you seem to be staring at me."
He simply put down his chopsticks and said with a smile, "You want to see me? Just tell me, I can let you see me from 360 degrees."
"Don't talk nonsense to me," Zhang Jusong glared at him, "I've heard people say that as long as your appetite is good, your illness should be almost cured, so... it all depends on how much you enjoy eating."
Xia Zhiheng raised his eyebrows: "Then, does it smell good?"
"Humph," Zhang Jusong picked up a steamed dumpling and took a bite viciously, "Isn't it possible to stop your mouth with food?"
After eating two dumplings in a row, she suddenly felt something furry rubbing against her and looked down.
Wow! A little golden retriever!
The little puppy, who was not even one year old yet, tilted his little head and stared pitifully at the steamed bun in her hand with his big watery eyes, with the words "I want to eat" engraved on his eyes.
Her heart was about to melt, and she tentatively put her hand close to the little golden retriever: "Little darling, do you want to eat?"
When the little golden retriever saw her hand approaching, he moved up to meet her, resting his furry little head on her knees. He swung his tail vigorously and whimpered a few times like a puppy.
Who can withstand this?
Zhang Ju Songle happily put the remaining dumplings into its mouth with her own hands.
"Sister, give it all, aren't you hungry?"
Xia Zhiheng moved over without any expression and squeezed in between Zhang Jusong and the little golden retriever with a smile.
The pleasant caress was forced to stop. The little golden retriever raised its furry head with a puzzled look on its face. It sniffed the scent of the uninvited guest with its black nose, wagged its tail meaningfully, and continued to move closer to Zhang Jusong, trying to rub her snow-white calf.
Just as he was about to get closer, he was suddenly grabbed. Xia Zhiheng smiled and said, "What a cute puppy."
Zhang Jusong couldn't help laughing.
Xia Zhiheng asked in confusion: "What's wrong?"
"It's okay." Zhang Jusong shook her head. She just felt that his expression now was somewhat similar to the little golden retriever in his arms, the big cutie holding the little cutie.
At this moment, the boss brought out two baskets of buns, and when he saw the little golden retriever, he glared at him and said, "Xiao Huang, why did you come out?"
He quickly placed the buns on the customer's table, wiped his hands on his apron, and apologized to Zhang Jusong and Xia Zhiheng: "I'm sorry, this is my daughter's dog. She went to school and locked it in the house. I don't know how it got out."
"Xiao Huang, come here."
When the little golden retriever saw its owner, it wagged its tail even more happily, left and right.
Xia Zhiheng put it down. As soon as the little golden retriever's four paws touched the ground, it ran happily towards the bun shop owner.
"Hey, you little thing." The boss grabbed its two front paws and twisted it into the house.
Until the door was closed and the golden furry shadow could no longer be seen, Zhang Jusong was still looking over there.
"Do you like dogs very much?" Xia Zhiheng's voice rang out.
She came back to her senses, turned her attention back to him, and nodded with a smile: "Yeah, I like it."
Talking about dogs, she couldn't help but talk more: "It's... it's really amazing that there are little lives like dogs in this world. No matter whether you are poor or ugly, even if you are a pauper with nothing, it will still love you as always."
"It feels so good." She looked at the hand that had just touched the golden retriever, savoring the furry touch.
She raised her head and met Xia Zhiheng's thoughtful gaze.
With alarm bells ringing in his heart, Zhang Jusong half-jokingly and half-warningly said, "Hey, what's with that expression on your face? Are you planning to give me a dog as a gift?"
Xia Zhiheng laughed: "Ah, you guessed it."
"Please don't do that." Zhang Jusong said seriously, "I won't accept it."
"Why? Don't you like dogs very much?"
"It's because I love dogs that I consider a lot of things," she explained. "I haven't graduated yet, and I don't know where I will work or live in the future. I can't devote myself to raising a dog at this stage. If I just raise one casually, it will be very unfair to the dog."
Zhang Jusong sighed softly: "In the girls' dormitory, there were people who had cats before, but after graduation, they just threw the cats away and called it releasing them into the wild. I don't know how they could do that."
Since she couldn't take the responsibility, she might as well not start. That was her idea.
Xia Zhiheng tilted his head, looked at her and smiled: "Sister is really a serious person."
His eyes were as bright as the rising sun.
Being stared at like that, Zhang Jusong felt a little embarrassed. She picked up her schoolbag and changed the subject: "Let's go. I have classes in the afternoon. There is a subway station nearby."
Well, the subway station during rush hour is not a comfortable place.
As soon as the two of them walked to the subway station entrance, they were swept inside by the crowd.
So many people did make Zhang Jusong a little panicked.
Just as I was about to be swept away by the crowd, a soft "sorry" sounded in my ear, and then my sleeve was tightly grasped.
While protecting her, Xia Zhiheng explained, "There are too many people here. I'm afraid we'll get lost."
The noise of people, the whistling of the subway into the station, and the "beep" sound of the screen door opening were all unreal to Zhang Jusong.
Only the temperature between her wrists became clearer and clearer. Strangely, she could still feel it even through the clothes.
Zhang Jusong lowered his neck, and finally did not say the word of refusal, and let him hold his hand.
