Chapter Seventy: Alone in a Room
"I came in a hurry and didn't bring a gift for my sister-in-law. Next time..." Apart from his glasses, he was a very polite and courteous person.
"No need, it's alright..." Jiang You subconsciously shook his head and refused when he heard the words "gift".
Completely unaware that it was a gift for her 'sister-in-law,' it was an indirect admission of her relationship with Xia Yan.
As soon as I finished speaking, I felt my hand being gripped even tighter.
Xia Bei stood tall and straight like a pine tree, blocking the light and casting a large shadow on the girl.
The sheer size difference and the inherent sense of oppression made Jiang You feel completely out of place. Even though she didn't understand handshake etiquette, she realized that she had been holding hands for too long.
She mustered her courage and looked up, wanting to say something. The other person still had a smile on their lips, but it didn't reach their eyes. He let go of her hand, looked at her, and said casually, "You're a good girl, so I won't disturb you two playing."
Seeing that Xia Bei was about to leave, Xue Yun and the other two stood up and called out, "Xia Bei..."
The man picked up his coat from the sofa and nodded slightly to the people inside: "No need to see me off. You all have fun. I'll treat you to dinner next time."
Jiang You stood silently to one side, his hands hanging at his sides, clenching and unclenching, trying to remove the warmth from his palms that did not belong to him.
Xia Bei glanced at the absent-minded girl, took a long stride, and walked outside.
Outside, next to a discreet car, stood a man in his thirties.
He saw Xia Bei come out, went up to her, and called out softly, "Secretary Xia."
Xia Bei gave a soft hum, lowered his eyes as if thinking of something, and asked, "When is the date for our trip to Sheng'an to inspect the project?"
Middle-aged man: "If it's in the next few days, it will be October 23rd. If it's at the end of January, we'll have to leave."
Xia Bei's fingers caressed the white jade on his wrist. He remembered the softness in his palm, and his fingers involuntarily twitched.
That hand is so small, it looks like it would break if you applied the slightest pressure.
The girl could never have imagined that at the moment their hands met, the seemingly refined and gentle man was thinking, "How many rounds can this small frame withstand?"
The cool night breeze brushed against Xia Bei's slightly flushed face, his Adam's apple bobbed slightly, the veins in his neck throbbed, his throat was dry, and he was even having trouble breathing.
He twisted his neck slightly, and his well-defined hands loosened his tie, unbuttoning two buttons to reveal a patch of snow-white skin and delicate collarbone.
"Once the trip to Sheng'an City is finalized, finish the rest of the itinerary within the next few days if possible," Xia Bei said, looking at the middle-aged man, "Haven't you spent much time with your daughter lately?"
The middle-aged man nodded, a guess forming in his mind, which was soon confirmed.
"I've been busy for almost a year, so please bear with me these next few days. Once we get to Sheng'an City, I'll stay for a few more days. You should go home and spend time with your daughter."
...
Inside the villa, Jiang You was in a state of confusion and unease after learning that Xia Yan had no intention of breaking up and had even introduced her to his brother.
She even ignored the strange look in Xia Yan's eyes, muttering to herself: It's all messed up, everything is in chaos.
Xia Yan noticed Jiang You's absent-minded expression and asked, "What's wrong?"
She stammered that she was tired, so the group stopped playing cards and told her to go back to her room to rest.
Xue Yun and the other two decided to stay here since they would be spending time together again the next day.
Xia Yan led her into a room where a floor-to-ceiling window met her eyes. The room was decorated in a modern, minimalist, and light luxury style, and her suitcase was next to the large bed.
It must have been ordered by the butler to be brought up.
Jiang You was attracted by the scenery outside and walked to the window. It didn't seem that beautiful during the day, but at night, when the lights came on, the blue lights on the water illuminated the surface, making it look like a huge sapphire, sparkling in the water.
On the water's surface, several uniquely shaped floating lanterns sway gently with the ripples, emitting a soft glow, creating a dreamlike scene.
Xia Yan took off his suit jacket and threw it on a chair. He stared at the girl's back. He had been holding back for almost a month, and he was practically a monk by now.
