Chapter 102 24-Hour Teacher (5)

Chapter 102 24-Hour Teacher (5)

After the fourth period in the afternoon, Bai Ye asked the Chinese teacher to temporarily take over her after-school care duties, quickly changed her clothes, and quietly slipped out of the school.

He planned to follow An Wenyuan.

The student asked for leave from evening self-study, saying that his grandmother was sick and he needed to go back to take care of her.

"He takes leave every few days, and every time he says his grandma is sick. Teacher Yan is really something, she doesn't even check. What if there's something else going on?"

Bai Ye followed behind the students, keeping a distance of several dozen meters, muttering to himself the whole way.

It's not that I'm complaining about the previous homeroom teacher being irresponsible, but rather that I'm worried about whether this student will go astray.

After following him for several streets, Bai Ye watched as An Wenyuan walked into a narrow alley, and his expression immediately turned ugly.

The reason is simple: this alley is notoriously chaotic, and every shop inside does business in a way that contradicts itself, both openly and covertly.

"What is An Wenyuan trying to do? How can someone his age be allowed to come here!"

Bai Ye grew increasingly uneasy and strode forward, disappearing into the alleyway.

As a result, they searched from one end of the alley to the other, "bothering" every shop, but still couldn't find the person.

"What are you trying to do, kid? Looking for trouble!"

"No, I'm looking for my student."

"Bullshit! I've never seen a kid sneak in. You're just looking for trouble."

"No, brother, I've come to the wrong place."

"You're asking for it!"

Three or five burly men on the other side raised their arms to strike, but Bai Ye covered his head and fled, narrowly escaping death.

Standing on the street opposite the alley, I belatedly realized that I had been outmaneuvered by a twelve-year-old elementary school student.

"This kid has noticed I'm following him."

Bai Ye couldn't understand how he had been exposed.

But today's plan fell through, so he could only pretend nothing had happened and go back to school.

For several days in a row, Bai Ye persisted in his pursuit, disguising himself meticulously each time and continuously improving his tracking techniques. However, the result was always the same: failure!

"What happened? How did he find me?"

Bai Ye sat in his office, his computer screen displaying An Wenyuan's personal information.

He stared at the two-inch photo again and again, feeling frustrated and angry about his upset stomach.

"Teacher Bai, aren't you going to your class's evening self-study session?" Teacher Li kindly reminded her before leaving.

Bai Ye glanced at the time, snapped back to reality, nodded his thanks, and shut down the computer.

When he arrived at classroom 601, he immediately looked at the seat at the very back of the wall where An Wenyuan was sitting with his head down, doing his homework.

Bai Ye didn't plan to teach, but only told the students to study quietly on their own. If they had any questions about Chinese, math, or English, they could come up and ask him for help.

The students were surprised; they hadn't expected their acting homeroom teacher to be so knowledgeable in every subject.

Bai Ye laughed, "This is nothing. You're only learning elementary school subjects. Even in middle school or high school, some teachers can answer questions for multiple subjects at the same time, especially in science, where knowledge is interconnected."

After joking around with the students for a while, the classroom quickly quieted down.

Bai Ye sat on the podium, flipping through his lesson plan. He appeared to be preparing for a lesson, but in reality, he had a notebook tucked inside the lesson plan. He was observing each student's condition through a death dynamics device.

When Bai Ye saw An Wenyuan, who was ranked first, with his score jumping from 92% to 96%, he almost jumped out of his seat.

He looked up at the corner of the classroom, where An Wenyuan remained silent, his head bowed low.

"96%... this child... could it be..."

After evening self-study ended, Bai Ye once again chose to follow him.

This time, however, he made no attempt to hide anything, openly following the student and clearly telling him: Kid, I'm sticking with you today.

On the road just after leaving the school, Bai Ye would run into some familiar students and parents, and she would greet them with a smile.

But after walking two streets, there were no familiar faces around, only a small figure standing three meters away from me.

Bai Ye thought of something and jogged forward two steps, shortening the distance between the two to 1.5 meters.

"An Wenyuan, are you hungry? Your teacher will treat you to some barbecue skewers," Bai Ye greeted him.

An Wenyuan looked back, shook his head, but remained silent.

Undeterred, Bai Ye jogged a few more steps, and now the two were almost side by side.

“An Wenyuan, you always finish evening self-study quite late, and I’m really worried about you going home alone. The graduation exams are coming up soon, how about I take you home?”

"No need, I'm safe."

"Your grandma will be worried, right? It'll only be a few months. Once you graduate, your teachers won't bother you anymore, so don't worry."

"Teacher Bai, no one can hurt me."

"You little rascal, don't be so confident. Although the city is quite safe now, it's actually full of dangers. You don't know how easy it is for a cute little boy like you to catch the eye of a kidnapper..."

Bai Ye followed him down the street, chattering away the whole way, but aside from getting some responses at the beginning, it was just a one-man show for him afterwards.

As they walked down the fourth street, An Wenyuan suddenly stopped. "Teacher Bai, I'm home. You can go back now."

Bai Ye looked up and saw that the surrounding area was all commercial districts or office buildings, with no residential communities at all.

“An Wenyuan, a good child doesn’t lie. I know you don’t want your teacher to go home with you, but this place is also…”

"Teacher, do you really want to know where I live?"

"Have you agreed to the teacher visiting your home?"

Bai Ye's mind worked quickly. He immediately stepped forward and hugged the student, saying, "You're a good student. Come on, I'll take you home. If your grandma is still awake, I'll talk to her about your studies."

An Wenyuan looked up, his dark eyes shining, and nodded gently.

Bai Ye followed An Wenyuan forward until they reached an office building.

“Teacher Bai, I live here.” An Wenyuan looked up at the tall buildings in front of him.

Bai Ye opened his mouth, full of shock. How could this child live in such a place?

Wait, no! Now office buildings can be rented out as residential properties?

I remember this office building being quite high-standard and strictly managed. This won't work, will it?

While Bai Ye was still pondering, An Wenyuan had already greeted the security guard and easily entered the building.

"Hey, wait for me!"

Bai Ye nodded to the gatekeeper, pointed ahead, and said, "I am his teacher, and I am here to make a home visit."

The security guard didn't even lift an eyelid; he didn't care at all.

Without saying much, Bai Ye immediately followed An Wenyuan.

The two took the elevator upstairs, and An Wenyuan pressed the button for the 18th floor.

When the bright red number 18 lit up, Bai Ye's heart skipped a beat, and a chill ran down his spine.

It must just be a coincidence, right?

"Teacher Bai, you seem very scared?" An Wenyuan looked up with a smile on his face.

However, the smiling face grew paler and paler until it was almost as white as a sheet of paper.

Feeling uncomfortable under her gaze, Bai Ye awkwardly said, "An Wenyuan, you don't have to laugh if you don't want to." It's kind of scary to see you like this so late at night.

"Teacher Bai, I've arrived." An Wenyuan continued to smile, his gaze already turned to the other side.

"bite--"

The elevator stopped; we've arrived at the eighteenth floor.

Then the elevator doors opened, and everything went dark.

An Wenyuan stepped out and into the endless darkness.

"Hey, wait a minute, teacher, An Wenyuan..."

Bai Ye quickly followed, but the moment he stepped out of the elevator, he immediately lost his balance and plummeted downwards.

"ah--"

Bai Ye opened his eyes, looked at the familiar dormitory environment, and felt a splitting headache.

Even during his lunch break, he still couldn't figure out whether what happened last night was a dream or real.

"It shouldn't be a dream. Given the nature of [Weird], it's impossible for them to let me have such a leisurely time. Since they agreed to work day and night, they definitely won't let me get a proper sleep at night."

Bai Ye thought of the game's name and became absolutely convinced of what had happened last night.

He looked at the death dynamics monitor again, and An Wenyuan's value was stuck at 96%, not rising any further.

Bai Ye breathed a sigh of relief, just as he was about to follow up again tonight, when the second-place score suddenly increased by 2 percentage points.

Li Shuangshuang's mortality tendency increased from 90% to 92%.

It happened in the blink of an eye, right under his nose.

Bai Ye immediately got up and rushed to classroom 601, only to find Li Shuangshuang sitting there peacefully, reading a book.

"Teacher Bai?" A student at the door noticed Bai Ye and called out softly.

Bai Ye nodded, thought for a moment, and said, "Go and call Li Shuangshuang."

Soon, Li Shuangshuang came out of the classroom.

With a smile, Bai Ye asked the little girl how her studies were going recently, whether she was keeping up with the math review, and whether the pressure of studying was too much.

Li Shuangshuang spoke very softly, but answered each question honestly. When she returned to the classroom, she even saluted Bai Ye.

Bai Ye watched the little girl's retreating figure, feeling puzzled.

"What's going on? The child is perfectly fine, why are the numbers increasing?"

Today is Friday, there is no evening self-study session, and Bai Ye will escort the students away from school after class.

He watched as parents came one by one to pick up their children, while some who lived nearby left together.

Only after all the students had left did Bai Ye pack up and prepare to return to school.

After walking a few steps, someone suddenly called out from behind, "Teacher Bai."

Bai Ye turned around and saw a stranger's face.

"Who are you?"

"Zhang Xiao".

The unfamiliar face gradually distorted, then memories returned, and the student in front of him slowly became familiar. Bai Ye finally recognized that the other person was one of his students.

"Zhang Xiao, what are you doing here? Didn't you go home?"

Zhang Xiao lives nearby and goes to and from school on her own.

Bai Ye stopped, waved to the students, and said when they got closer, "Did you leave your homework in the classroom? I'm about to go back too, let's go together."

"Okay, I'm going back to the classroom." Zhang Xiao nodded.

The two bypassed the East Gate, walked along Xuelutong to Xiaonan Gate, and then returned to the teaching building.

Bai Ye took this opportunity to show concern for the students' mental state.

He hadn't forgotten that this was one of the five members of Li Xiaoman's group, and one of the enthusiasts who discussed death.

However, this student was a little different; she seemed to prefer collecting death.

As they were thinking, the two had already reached the sixth floor.

Zhang Xiao waved, "Teacher Bai, I'm going to the classroom."

"Okay, go ahead, grab your homework and head home quickly."

Bai Ye watched the student leave, looking at their departing figure with a loving expression.

As I watched, the student's back gradually changed, shrinking from a height of about 1.5 meters to a tiny size.

With its tiny arms and legs, it walks slowly yet wildly, just like a cocky little kid.

"Bai Jin..."

Bai Ye murmured to himself.

Zhang Xiao paused in the corridor, turned around, and looked at the person behind her.

"Teacher Bai, what did you just say?"
