Chapter 3 Deliveryman (3)
Bai Ye stood in front of the fried rice stall, watching the stall owner scoop a spoonful of somewhat murky oil into the pan, then casually pick up an egg from the side, gently crack it open on the edge of the pan, and a crack appeared in the shell.
The vendor operates with one hand, pouring the egg mixture into the pot and casually tossing the eggshells into the nearby trash can.
Then stir-fry quickly, add green vegetables and bean sprouts, and when it's almost done, the vendor opens a large bucket next to him, scoops out a spoonful of steaming white rice and pours it in.
Continue stir-frying, and before serving, sprinkle with scallions.
After the vendor finished cooking, he put the food into a foam box, quickly took out a plastic bag to pack it, and finally attached a sales slip.
"Your takeout order."
The stall owner called out, and before Bai Ye could take it, he placed it directly on the plastic stool next to him.
Then, they started placing the next order.
Bai Ye was somewhat stunned as he watched the stall owner operate the equipment skillfully. Could it be that mobile stalls were allowed to operate nowadays for food delivery?
No storefront is needed?
Are these takeout orders safe?
Bai Ye recalled the series of actions the stall owner had taken while frying the egg fried rice, and the more he thought about it, the more he frowned.
They didn't wash their hands at all. They just threw the vegetables and bean sprouts into the plastic box. Were they even washed?
And what was that oil used for before? Was it leftover from frying food?
Is there any poison in using a styrofoam box to hold such hot fried rice?
Bai Ye had also worked as a food delivery driver before his death, but in his world, the safety and hygiene of businesses were strictly regulated. Moreover, the health department frequently conducted spot checks, and once a problem was found, the relevant food industry was no longer allowed to operate.
Because the cost of making mistakes is high, almost no one is willing to take risks for petty gains.
Bai Ye drove his electric scooter to Chentou Alley, agonizing the whole way over whether he should remind the customer not to order this kind of takeout again.
Bai Ye's thought had just surfaced when she silently suppressed it.
"Forget it, it's better to avoid trouble. I'm just a food delivery guy."
The electric car drove for more than an hour, from the bustling city center to the quiet and remote village.
If it weren't for the phone indicating that the route was correct and that we were about to reach our destination, Bai Ye really wouldn't have been able to continue driving.
"DeadMe Delivery warmly reminds you that you are 100 meters away from your delivery destination. Please continue straight ahead."
Bai Ye looked up and saw a dilapidated dirt road winding its way forward, stretching as far as the eye could see. On both sides of the dirt road were fields, crisscrossed with green rice seedlings growing.
One hundred meters to go?
Are you sure there are no navigation errors?
After driving ninety meters forward, Bai Ye stopped. Holding his phone, he looked at the nearby food delivery point and became increasingly suspicious that the phone was malfunctioning.
"My eyesight is excellent. I can see clearly even 30 meters ahead, let alone 10 meters. There are only small paths ahead, no village at all, so where would this alleyway come from!"
Bai Ye couldn't help but complain, "How did you guys make the map for your weird world? It's so unreliable."
Just as he finished speaking, his phone rang.
Looking at the so-called route map again, there was a dot on it that was constantly spinning.
"DeadMe Takeaway is connected to the network, and the immoral map is being upgraded... The immoral map has been upgraded and will continue to guide you."
white night:"……"
"DeadMe Delivery warmly reminds you that you are 100 meters away from your delivery destination. Please continue straight ahead."
Bai Ye sighed and continued driving the electric car forward.
He drove one hundred meters after another, dozens of times in a row, until just before he was about to explode, a village finally appeared in front of him.
At the entrance to the village, a large stone stands with the words "Chentou Lane" written on it.
We've finally arrived!
This is absolutely outrageous.
Bai Ye drove into Chentou Alley, and as soon as he entered, he felt something was wrong.
He couldn't help but turn around and was immediately stunned by what he saw.
The dirt road we used to walk on is shrinking and disappearing!
"What's going on?"
Bai Ye immediately turned the car around and drove back towards the village entrance. Just as he drove to the big rock, he was blocked by an invisible wall.
He couldn't open it; he was trapped inside.
Bai Ye landed with his feet apart, leaned forward, and rested his body on the handlebars of the electric scooter, beginning to think.
"So the current situation is, how do we find a way out?"
wrong!
I'm here to deliver food.
Bai Ye parked his car, took out a takeout bag from the trunk, and looked at the contents of the package.
[DeadMe Delivery: Fried Rice (1 serving) 6 yuan]
[Address: Chentou Alley ***]
Bai Ye then noticed that this serving of fried rice only cost 6 yuan, which was incredibly cheap.
It's stuffed with green vegetables, bean sprouts, and eggs!
However, considering the hygiene of that stall, the price of 6 yuan seems reasonable.
But without the customer's name, how am I supposed to deliver it?
Bai Ye glanced at her phone again; the delivery countdown showed three hours to go.
"No wonder the delivery takes so long. Looks like I'll have to find customers myself."
Bai Ye hadn't thought about how to get out yet; whether or not he could leave, he had to earn the delivery fee.
It's a fool not to make money when it's available, especially since this money is tied to life points.
Bai Ye hung the bag on the front hook of the electric scooter, then turned the scooter around again and drove straight into the village.
A winding path leads to the end of the road, where there is a locust tree and a thatched shed under it.
Bai Ye parked his car, picked up a plastic bag, and walked over, hoping to try his luck.
Luckily, there were people inside.
"Sir, excuse me, but I have something to ask you."
The person lying inside opened their eyes and looked outside the thatched hut. "What is it?"
"Grandpa, I'm here to deliver food, but I've come into the village and there's no road. Could you tell me how to get to Chentou Alley?"
As Bai Ye spoke, he picked up the plastic bag and waved it to indicate that he wasn't lying.
The old man inside then sat up. "You're looking for Chentou Alley? Whose takeout are you delivering to?"
"I don't know, the name is blurry," Bai Ye answered truthfully.
The old man stared at the person in front of him, and after a while, he suddenly laughed, "Then you can go in and find it yourself."
Bai Ye wanted to ask more questions, but the old man in front of her had already become distorted. In an instant, a perfectly normal person turned into a huge black snake.
The snake flicked its tongue at him, then quickly slithered under the thatched hut and disappeared.
Bai Ye was stunned, clearly deeply shocked.
This dark, smooth, footless creature is more frightening than eerie.
Whether the latter is true or false is not up for discussion. Anyway, it's the first time I've seen it, so I'll just consider it an opportunity to broaden my horizons.
But the former, in his original world, truly existed!
Just now, a huge snake, its eyes wide like copper bells, stared at him and flicked out its half-meter-long forked tongue...
Bai Ye got goosebumps all over her body and felt cold from head to toe.
Step by step, I turned around with difficulty. There was no end to the road before, but a door opened up at some point, and voices could be heard coming from inside.
"You idiot, get out of here!"
Bai Ye wanted to run, but his legs wouldn't obey him, and the feeling of palpitations was still intense; he hadn't recovered yet.
It wasn't until he limped to the door and stepped inside that Bai Ye felt like he had come back to life.
He ran inside and found a middle-aged man carrying a hoe. He asked, "Brother, can I ask you something? Do you know anyone in this alley who has ordered takeout?"
Bai Ye flipped the order over and pointed to the contents, "One serving of fried rice with egg, six yuan."
The middle-aged man was shocked. "What did you say? Six yuan for such a small portion of fried rice? That's robbery!"
"Forehead……"
“We don’t order takeout in Chentou Lane. We’d rather cook something ourselves than waste time doing that.”
"That older brother..."
"An egg costs fifty cents, and we have vegetables and bean sprouts at home. A spoonful of lard, and some leftover rice from last night—tsk, it smells amazing!"
After savoring the memory, the middle-aged man glanced at the plastic bag again. "What is this? Six yuan, but the cost is less than two yuan. It's capitalists' work."
After finishing his rant, the middle-aged man shouldered his hoe and left.
Bai Ye stood there stunned for a moment, then came to her senses and continued walking inside, finding the second person.
It was a woman who was about to go out to do laundry, with a child of about three years old beside her.
"Excuse me, ma'am, do you know anyone in Chentou Alley who ordered takeout? One serving of fried rice with eggs."
This time, Bai Ye didn't mention the price.
The woman waved her hand impatiently after hearing this, saying, "I don't know, I don't know. Go ask someone else."
After saying that, he left with the plastic basin.
Bai Ye sighed and was about to leave when someone tugged at his sleeve.
Turning around, I saw it was the same child from before.
The little girl was a little over a meter tall, with two pigtails, and a finger in her mouth, sucking on it.
"Uncle, I know which family ordered takeout."
"You know?" Bai Ye was surprised.
What's even more surprising is that such a young child knows about food delivery?
He crouched down to be about the same height as the little girl, looking her in the eye. "Then tell me, whose is it?"
Is there a reward for answering correctly?
The little girl's eyes were fixed on the plastic bag.
Bai Ye really wanted to offer a lollipop as a reward, but his pockets were empty. He had used all of his first order to exchange for life points.
As for plastic bags?
"I can't open this. I'm just a food delivery person; I can't eat the food from customers."
"You only eat a little bit, so you can't tell."
Bai Ye refused, saying it was immoral!
"Little sister, it's wrong to steal food, I think..."
"Crack—crack—"
Before he could finish speaking, the little girl in front of him started eating her finger. She completely ate the finger that had been in her mouth.
After finishing one, the little girl looked up with a smile, "It's so delicious, so sweet! Uncle, do you want some?"
As he spoke, he handed over one of his fingers.
Bai Ye instinctively stepped back, then stopped after two steps, trying to reassure himself: It's okay, it's okay, it's just eating a finger, just think of it as watching a magic trick.
Five minutes later, the hungry little girl broke off half of her head right in front of him. Then she poked her finger at the top of her head and started sucking on it with a plastic tube she found by the roadside.
"Gurgle...gurgle..."
The sucking sound was clear and loud.
"Uncle, it's soft and warm, would you like some?"
The little girl looked up, with a suspicious white paste-like liquid still hanging from the corner of her mouth.
The people of Baiye were dumbfounded.
This scene was even more terrifying than the previous giant snake.
Help! ! !
Why aren't my eyes blind yet!
"DeadMe Delivery warmly reminds you that you have two hours left before your delivery time. Please deliver on time."
This notification sound was simply heavenly.
Bai Ye forced herself to calm down and tried to mentally prepare herself before asking in a low voice, "Little sister, could you take me to that takeout place?"
"Is there a reward?" the little girl asked while taking a drag.
After much hesitation, Bai Ye gritted his teeth and said, "Yes, I'll get a commission after I finish this delivery. Once I get the money, I... I'll buy you candy."
"Uncle, come with me."
The little girl turned around, but ended up spinning in circles.
"Uncle, can you help me push my head back in? I can't see the road."
The little girl held her head in her hands, looking in Bai Ye's direction. The half of her head in her arms had its eyes rolling around, while the other half of her head, still hanging around her neck, had a slight upturn at the corners of its mouth.
