Chapter 15 The Beginning of the War

If you send troops but don't cause trouble, then what's the point of sending troops?

4,000 worker ants, 100 soldier ants, and two heavily armored tanks (specialized ants).

The bees are a bit difficult to deal with. There's no way to attack them yet. Although sometimes, if they're lucky, a few ants might manage to catch a few bees, that's only in rare cases. Most of the time, the ants are the ones getting beaten up.

Let's go fight the Horned Bugs first. At least they're all ground units, so we still have a chance in a head-on confrontation.

Without saying much, since we had been there before and knew the route very well, the main group just rushed in.

The great F2A connects us.

All 4,000 worker ants were brought out, and the foraging task was handed over to the local black ants.

Originally, Zhao Zian wanted to leave some ants in his hometown for defense, at least to prevent the native ants from betraying him.

However, he suddenly discovered that the power of faith could also be used to detect betrayal.

After the local ants came to believe in him, their faith was quite strong, and he could sense it. Under such circumstances, it was impossible for them to betray him.

As for the surrounding area, we've explored it many times and there's no threat at all.

So just go all in, since we had a lot of Horned Bug troops during the previous exploration, and we're afraid we won't be able to win if we bring too few.

One hundred soldier ants and two specialized ones charged ahead, surrounded by ordinary worker ants to prevent them from being ambushed by enemies in blind spots that they couldn't reach.

The first group they encountered were scattered gathering teams. The horned beetles, unaware of the impending danger, continued to gather food.

Several horned beetles had just used their large horns to break open the bamboo shoots and were happily smelling the sweet aroma of the bamboo shoot juice.

Click!

The little horned beetle is standing at attention!

With lightning speed, the soldier ant bit off the horned beetle's head in an instant.

The rest of the horned beetle companions were either dead or injured. A few horned beetles that tried to escape were caught up by the specialization in three steps and stomped to death.

Specialized ants not only have sharp spines on their joints, but also on their bodies and feet. One stomp from one of these ants would pierce the little ant right through.

Similar scenes are playing out elsewhere, with more and more horned beetles being eliminated.

Thousands of ants spread out on the ground, covering an astonishing area.

A dense swarm of ants can be extremely uncomfortable for people with trypophobia.

Like a black rag, it constantly wipes away the life it encounters along the way.

However, some still managed to slip through the net.

One of the scout beetles, after spotting the main force, escaped the pursuit and headed towards their base camp.

However, Zhao Zian didn't care; his original intention was to let the horned worm go.

Even fighting requires skill.

He did indeed want to destroy the Horned Worm's lair. As a local force that had been entrenched there for who knows how long, its lair must contain a great deal of food.

But going straight to someone's house to fight is definitely not an option.

Zhao Zian has played countless similar strategy games.

How can we just barge into someone's house?

You need to lure the enemy troops out first, destroy them, or at least cripple them, before attacking their base.

If we can only storm into their territory, wouldn't that mean they've taken all the advantages of terrain and manpower?

After releasing the horned beetle, Zhao Zian cleaned up the surrounding area, killing any horned beetles and eliminating other unidentified small insects, spiders, scorpions, centipedes, and the like.

Then they found a raised spot nearby and started making repairs.

Of these, 40 soldier ants plus some worker ants were moved to the back first.

The main force was also arranged in formation first, with the two specialized units and soldier ants all at the front, while the worker ants were placed slightly behind. After the larger, more heavily armored units in front absorbed the damage, they would then charge forward, otherwise they would be too easy to die.

Soon, the horned beetles also arrived in a large, imposing force.

They looked so menacing, as if they wanted to devour these invaders alive.

The Horned Bug race does not have different combat units; they all look the same.

There's a slight difference in size; some horned beetles are larger, and some are smaller.

Large insects are used directly as combat units, unlike friendly ants which have a dedicated combat species called soldier ants.

However, in insect battles, size is a major factor in determining combat effectiveness. Between ants of the same size, there is actually not much difference in combat effectiveness between large worker ants and soldier ants...

However, after a round of evolution, unlike in the real world, soldier ants now have thicker carapaces and are more distinct from ordinary worker ants.

The soldier ants were extremely aggressive, appearing even angrier than the invaded hornworms.

The horned beetles were a bit confused. Dude, you're the intruder! We've been invaded by you! Why do you look even angrier than me? We're the victims, okay?

Are the pheromones really that strong? If someone didn't know better, they'd think you guys were being bullied.

Before Zhao Zian could even give the order, several soldier ants had already rushed up, intending to take a few bites.

Ugh, discipline! Don't you have any discipline at all? Why did you just charge in like that?

Zhao Zian quickly pulled them back. Disrupting the formation was a minor issue; the main problem was that rushing in and getting surrounded would just be suicide.

Soldier ants are indeed stronger, but if one of them grabs one of your legs, you're finished. If all your legs are grabbed, and another one bites your head, you're immediately executed.

The battles between insects are basically like this: their carapaces are generally thick, so when they bite the body, they usually don't hurt or itch. Only when they bite vulnerable and vital places like the neck, joints, or legs can they pose a threat.

Of course, this only applies to situations where the units are roughly the same size. If it were a special case where a large unit were biting a small unit, it would be a crunchy, one-bite-per-bite affair, nothing more to say.

Those hornworms, what do they know about strategy?

Seeing such strong pheromones from the other side, he was furious.

Moreover, the soldier ants' actions of rushing up and then running back were seen as provocations, which only added fuel to the fire, making them unable to tolerate it.

We charged straight in. As the leader of this area, I've never seen such provocation before. We have to teach these invaders a lesson.

Of course, the horned beetles had a very nice wish, but when their specialized, enormous mouths bit them, they immediately became obedient.

As soon as the battle began, the specialized creature charged forward. Although it was a bit large and its movements were relatively slow, if it got hit, it would be instantly killed.

And every now and then its huge head would dangle down and bite off an enemy.

The horned beetles' previously orderly formation was immediately disrupted. The intense sense of crisis made them hesitant to approach the giant specialized ant.

However, perhaps inspired by the other horned beetles, or perhaps out of a sense of responsibility to defend their home, they still bravely came up to bite.
