Chapter 9: Forced Conscription 2

The sound of horse hooves came, and Su Dashan immediately opened his eyes.

He gripped his bow and arrow tightly and quietly came to the official road. Lying on the ground, he could hear the sound of horse hooves getting closer.

Soon, a group of soldiers on horseback passed by quickly and headed towards the county town.

Su Dashan guessed that the recruits must have arrived.

But why are there so many people coming this time?

Normally, four or five people would come with orders. The county town wasn't very big, and there weren't many villages under it.

But this time, there were at least a hundred people, and they all looked like soldiers, holding weapons.

When we returned to the team, the hunter family who were left behind at the rear had already woken up.

Zhang Hu held up his broadsword and asked, "What was that horse hoof sound just now?"

Su Dashan's face was solemn. "About a hundred soldiers have gone to the county town."

Zhang Hu looked towards the county town and said, "Around a hundred people, they must have been forcibly conscripted.

It seems that the news about not charging money this time is true, thanks to Xiu Bo for bringing the news in advance."

Su Dashan returned to the front of the team. Su Mu had also woken up and was talking to the village chief's youngest son, Xiu Bai.

Upon learning that a hundred men had come from the county, Xiu Bai said that this conscription would probably be very brutal.

Su Mu felt that if conscription was really forced, he would not be able to take the official route.

Even walking at night is not safe. It is safer to take the mountain road.

Otherwise, if you are discovered, you will probably be arrested directly.

The others also agreed, and Xiu Bo hurried to tell his father.

When it got dark, the village chief woke people up along the way.

Everyone quickly ate and packed up.

Su Nanxing got out of the carriage and went to the space to brush his teeth and wash his face under the pretext of going to the toilet.

It’s just right to pour the spiritual spring water into the water bag and then mix it with the mountain spring water in the space.

When the time comes, I’ll find an opportunity to let everyone in the Su family have some.

After a simple meal, the team set off.

Su Nanxing was leaning on the right, and on his left was Su Mu, who was driving the coach.

As the two chatted, Su Nanxing realized that at least a hundred soldiers had come to the county town.

And tonight, we can't take the official road, we have to take the mountain road.

The mountain road is difficult to travel on, and even sitting in a carriage is very bumpy.

And we couldn’t light a lamp, so we could only see the road by moonlight.

So the team moved very slowly, and it was also very dangerous for the people leading the way.

At midnight, the team stopped to eat.

Suddenly, faint cries were heard.

It didn't sound real, and Su Nanxing felt goosebumps all over her body.

Even time travel has happened, maybe there really are ghosts in this world.

Many people in the village heard it and everyone hugged each other, at a loss as to what to do.

Grandpa Su vaguely remembered that there seemed to be a village nearby.

After hearing this, the village chief asked Grandpa Su to take people to see what was going on.

Su Nanxing was very curious and followed along.

It's just right that I can still keep an eye on Grandpa Su. If something really happens, I can knock him out and take him to the space.

The three-person team reached the top of the mountain and saw bright lights below.

A small village seems to be surrounded.

Li Shanhe, the village chief's eldest son, asked in confusion, "Uncle Su, are there any bandits coming to this village?"

Su Nanxing didn't think so, because bandits wouldn't let anyone go. But those people down the mountain seemed to be arresting people with a purpose.

Suddenly, Su Nanxing thought, "Isn't this a conscription?"

Li Shanhe's eyes widened. "Recruiting soldiers in the middle of the night?"

Grandpa Su: "Dahe will go report the news, Nanxing and I will go to the middle of the mountain to take a look."

"Okay, uncle, be careful." Li Shanhe retreated carefully.

Grandpa Su took Nanxing and walked down the mountain.

The moonlight was bright here, and Su Nanxing walked quite easily following Grandpa Su.

When they reached halfway up the mountain, Grandpa Su found a place and squatted down.

In the light of the fire, it was vaguely visible that those who were holding torches and surrounding the village were wearing the same clothes.

Moreover, there were two people riding on big horses, raising their swords from time to time and shouting something.

And those faint crying sounds came from the women and children at the foot of the mountain.

They didn't want their husbands, fathers and children to leave, but they couldn't escape and could only cry.

Su Nanxing saw someone trying to run up the mountain, but was shot to death by a horseman with an arrow.

The family members cried while holding the body, but they could not resist because they were unarmed and would be killed if they resisted.

The villagers looked at the corpses on the ground and became even more frightened. They dared not resist and could only follow obediently.

The soldiers went into each house to arrest people, and the unarmed civilians had no choice but to follow them obediently.

Soon, the villagers were taken away.

Only the women and the elderly were left, crying at the village entrance with their young children.

Grandpa Su took Nanxing and carefully returned to the team.

I briefly told everyone what I saw.

As early as when the village chief's son returned, some villagers ran to the top of the mountain to see.

Although I couldn't see who was at the foot of the mountain, I could still hear the crying sounds carried by the wind.

If they really were bandits, there would definitely be curses.

But no, because no one dared to curse the court or the soldiers.

Now the Su family brought more accurate news, that the soldiers even shot and killed civilians directly.

This conscription is too terrible.

Fortunately, the villagers left early.

Otherwise, the recruits might arrive at Taohua Village tomorrow.

Everyone guessed correctly, except that the officers and soldiers arrived earlier.

At three o'clock in the morning, the people left in Taohua Village were still asleep.

But a group of soldiers had surrounded the village and started arresting people from house to house.

"Sir, for some reason, several houses in Taohua Village are empty."
