Chapter 12: Survival Day 12: Do you know Uncle Cap?
Survival Day 12:
Corazon spoke out of desperation.
He didn't know how Wendy knew the news, but he knew that if she told Doflamingo, she would be in trouble.
He had also considered that if Wendy told Doflamingo about this, he would easily become suspicious of her.
After only struggling for a few seconds, Corazon made a decision - from his observation, although Wendy's thinking and style were a bit strange, she was a good girl, and she might not tell Doflamingo; and even if Doflamingo knew, he might not be in trouble... But if Wendy asked directly, she would most likely be affected.
Corazon raised his hand and snapped his fingers, completely isolating the sound in the room. He took a deep breath, exhaled slowly, and said solemnly, "How much do you know about the Celestial Dragons?"
"World nobles, demanding tribute from others, right?" Wendy asked curiously. "Don't they all live in Mary Geoise? If Dover is a Celestial Dragon, then you are too, right? Did you run away from home?"
"...No, if you must say, we should be considered exiled Celestial Dragons." Corazon looked at Wendy. The blonde girl's face was filled with curiosity, no other emotion.
Her emotions always seemed so simple and direct, and she seemed to be able to accept anything. No matter how big the problem was, it was just an ordinary matter in front of her... This was probably why Dover liked her.
Corazon calmed herself down and slowly began to recount the past.
"We used to be Celestial Dragons... until later, when my father decided to leave Marijoa and live with ordinary people." Corazon paused, as if recalling his childhood experiences. Pain and sorrow filled his face, and a hint of sadness took over. "However, the hatred ordinary people have for Celestial Dragons is beyond our imagination."
After their identities were exposed, their family was hunted by the townspeople. Their father's attempt to send his wife and children back to Marijoa was also rejected, and they suddenly became the collective outcasts of both sides.
For the first time since they were born, they felt pain, knew what hunger was for the first time... and also encountered the helpless separation of life and death for the first time.
They rummaged through trash cans for food, but their mother eventually fell seriously ill and passed away because of this kind of life.
Then, they were found again by that group of resentful people... Doflamingo regarded his father as the culprit of all this and killed him, while the young Rocinante, that is, Corazon himself, left because he could not accept this fact.
Thinking of the past, Corazon's expression grew more serious. "Dover won't allow his past to be unearthed or known...even you can't, Wendy. You can't ask him about this."
"I understand." Unexpectedly, Wendy accepted the advice quickly and asked, "Then why did you hide the fact that you can speak, Corazon?"
"Because... because I want to stop Dover." Corazon looked at her and asked, "Can you keep the fact that I can speak a secret?"
After listening to the whole story, Wendy's emotions didn't fluctuate much. She looked no different from before, as if the story was just an ordinary bedtime fairy tale to her.
Corazon naturally didn't know. From Wendy's perspective, the big thing he just talked about was, to sum up, just a concept - [Ah, the new character started to tell the story].
What was a heavy secret for Corazon was just a way for Wendy to complete her friend's backstory.
Not only was she not frightened, she was even slightly happy. This was because the system event log, which originally only recorded the "Pirate King Execution" incident, now included a new event, "Secret of the Celestial Dragons ①: The Don Quixote Brothers."
This is still a series of plots... I don't know whether the following ②③④⑤ are obtained from this pair of brothers, or triggered by other characters.
"Okay," she agreed, looking around curiously. "What did you do to make it so quiet?"
Just now I could faintly hear the noise coming from the street, but now there is nothing.
Corazon didn't intend to hide this fact. After all, there was no point in hiding it: "Because I am the user of the Silence Fruit."
Wendy's eyes lit up.
She knew that the plot wouldn't be passed for no reason!
Look, isn't it obvious?! A key plot character, a Devil Fruit user... this is the obvious partner candidate!
And he took the initiative to approach me to start the plot... I guess this is a hint!
Thinking of this, Wendy asked happily, "In that case, will you become my companion?"
This incoherent question left Corazon stunned. He stared at the smiling blonde girl and fell silent, unsure how the situation had become like this, and even more confused as to why Wendy would ask such a question... Was that the kind of question she'd ask when someone opened up to her? Was she also treating Dover like a companion?
With a hint of hesitation, and also wanting to see what would happen, Corazon slowly nodded: "Okay."
Then, he became the third person after Ryu and Doflamingo to be frightened by having his heart ripped out with bare hands, and he was the one who was stunned for the longest time.
"This is the Telltale Heart, equivalent to my heart, and can only be entrusted to my trusted companions for safekeeping. If I ever die, you can use this to revive me."
Wendy once again offered her secret, her words remaining the same. However, the shock felt by those who heard it was similar.
But compared to Doflamingo, who mistakenly thought he was the first person to be offered his heart, Corazon, as his younger brother, was much more clear-headed. He immediately understood why Doflamingo was so indulgent towards Wendy...
He felt as if something had suddenly dawned on him. Looking down at Wendy's pale face that hinted at expectation, and her gesture of still holding her heart, he felt a little complicated - well, he just felt that Wendy herself might not have thought much about it.
For a moment, the heaviness in his heart faded away, and he was replaced by a feeling of powerlessness and worry about Wendy's behavior.
He took the heart and placed it in the backpack Wendy had created and distributed, limited to one per Don Quixote family member. He then said earnestly, "I understand, but you can't tell Dover about this, and you can't tell him you can create multiple resurrection hearts."
Even though she knew she was not the first person to be entrusted and felt that Wendy was too gullible, Corazon still felt a warmth in her heart and the touch of being trusted and relied upon.
He didn't think this behavior was without cost, as he could tell by the way Wendy's face had suddenly become haggard. He hadn't spoken much to Wendy before, and had even secretly observed and suspected her character... But now, Wendy immediately believed what he said and even gave him something so important that represented her trust.
Of course, he didn't know that Wendy could make as many of these things as she wanted, given the simple ingredients. The most precious thing was her health, and she had plenty of health-replenishing items. A Telltale Heart required 40 health points, which she could restore with a single fish fillet or dumpling.
Wendy listened to Corazon's words and nodded: "I know."
She understood immediately. This meant Doflamingo and Corazon were two separate paths! This was the classic path, and maybe they would become two factions later on! Once she finished the common storyline, an option would appear!
Wendy was satisfied when she saw the system prompt [You requested to add Don Quixote Rocinante (Corazon) as a companion, and the other party agreed to your request].
There happened to be a cartography table nearby. Wendy pulled out a blank map scroll and handed it to Corazon, urging him, "Becoming my companion is a gift. Draw me a map!"
This time she learned her lesson and won’t directly ask to share the map, she will just let the other party draw it!
Corazon always had a good temper. Hearing this, he didn't ask why. He responded good-temperedly and started drawing at the drawing table. He also asked the other party which part of the map he wanted.
In this world, any pirate capable of sailing alone would necessarily possess some navigational skills, including steering and charting. At the very least, they would have to consult a map. Those with a poor sense of direction who ventured out to sea alone would need to be exceptionally strong.
After getting the map, Wendy chose to read the map, opened the system map, and was satisfied to see that another part was lit up.
And the biggest part of it is... um? Naval base?
Wendy looked at her system map, then looked up at Corazon.
Although Corazon and Doflamingo are brothers, they don't look much alike, aside from their hair color and build. Corazon, in particular, wears clown makeup and greasepaint to hide his features, making it even harder to discern his true appearance.
Wendy looked at him, a hint of confusion on her face, then she understood—it looked like they were on different sides! Dover represented the pirates, and Corazon must represent the navy!
Just like Uncle Garp whom I met at the beginning, he was also a navy.
It seems that this camp has been foreshadowed for a long time... I wonder what the plot points that need to be passed later are.
Thinking of this, Wendy asked, "Do you know Uncle Cap?"
Corazon was stunned. He only knew one Garp...
"Are you talking about Vice Admiral Garp of the Navy? Do you know him?"
"Yeah, I lived in his house before. Uncle Garp took care of me when I first came to this world." Wendy nodded, feeling a little emotional when she recalled the past. Thinking carefully, she hadn't seen Uncle Garp for a long time...
"If you know him, remember to say hello to him for me." After Wendy said this, she felt that she had accomplished a task, and she did things at her own pace and left.
Corazon was left there in a daze, feeling like his brain had crashed and was restarting there, trying to figure out the current situation.
Wendy said that Vice Admiral Garp took care of her when she first came into this world... which means she was most likely adopted by Vice Admiral Garp...
If she was once a noble, she might have had a similar fate to him, being adopted after leaving the nobility... And she looked like a pure and good child. What happened today further confirmed this assumption...
But why is she here with the Don Quixote family? She seems to trust Dover...
Wendy...could she have been tricked here by Dover?! The author has something to say:
