Looking at these three lines of text, Chen Zhou was quite speechless.
I didn't expect the sect leader to be so approachable.
Two of the three lines of text concerned the sect leader's safety, indicating that the sect leader indeed valued him highly.
Chen Zhou believed that this made it even more important not to disappoint the sect leader's high regard.
After thinking it over, Chen Zhou reorganized the paper scraps and burned them completely with his true qi flames before embarking on his journey.
This trip to the South was very fruitful, and the healing array alone made Chen Zhou feel that the trip was worthwhile. The only drawback was that he didn't buy a horse. He would have to look for a place to buy a horse along the way.
As Chen Zhou walked, he took out a map. He looked at the area in front of the North Gate of the Southern Kingdom, where the first thing he saw was a village written in very small characters, named Inatar.
The name of this place was marked very small on the map, so it naturally failed to attract Chen Zhou's attention. Chen Zhou thought it was just a small village.
Little did he know, danger was quietly descending upon this village, and Chen Zhou's carelessness would come back to haunt him.
Because he had overlooked the village, Chen Zhou did not specifically choose to take the side paths, but instead took the main road directly. The main road was much easier to walk on than the side paths, and it was also shorter.
You might just pass by this small village in no time.
Chen Zhou was still thinking of going to that village to ask if anyone wanted to buy horses.
After walking for a while, the night gradually faded away, replaced by a slowly rising dawn.
As dawn broke, the path before Chen Zhou became clearer; it was a narrow trail flanked by dense forests.
The dense jungle was much quieter than Chen Zhou had imagined. Just as Chen Zhou was wondering if there were any spirit beasts lurking here, he heard the sound of something scurrying about in the grass beside him.
This sound alerted Chen Zhou.
Chen Zhou immediately hid, watching warily in the direction from which the sound was coming from the jungle.
I could see several figures through the gaps in the leaves.
The figures flashed past Chen Zhou's eyes, and Chen Zhou immediately followed them quietly. These figures were all cultivators, and Chen Zhou immediately used his true energy to conceal his aura.
"What are these people doing?" Chen Zhou wondered to himself. Only then could he make out the figures clearly. There were three people, and all three of them were at least at the Foundation Establishment stage!
Because all three of them concealed their auras in a special way, but not completely, Chen Zhou could roughly sense their strength.
However, it was impossible to get a concrete sense of their strength.
"Follow them and see," Elder Ren said immediately after hearing Chen Zhou's inner monologue.
Chen Zhou followed closely behind those people, also wanting to find out what was going on.
The three of them didn't notice Chen Zhou behind them and were focused on getting on their way.
"Hurry! That poisonous tree has reappeared. This is a rare opportunity; we must get that poisonous tree!" one of the three said.
Chen Zhou heard those words clearly: Poisonous tree?
For some reason, the closer Chen Zhou followed them, the more difficult the road ahead became, not only because of the trees, but also because of the grass that was as tall as a person.
Gradually, Chen Zhou could no longer see the three people in front of him.
Chen Zhou was lost.
"What on earth is going on?" Chen Zhou continued to mutter. What happened? Why did he lose track of them?
Chen Zhou had been following the person in front without making any changes, so why did he lose them?
Realizing he had lost his way, Chen Zhou immediately slowed down and gradually came to a stop. Looking at the tall grass around him, he felt a little anxious.
Only when he stopped could Chen Zhou calmly observe his surroundings; the tall grass, reaching almost an adult's height, aroused his suspicion.
During the chase, Chen Zhou was completely focused on the three people in front of him and did not notice the strange things around him. Now that he has calmed down and noticed the strange things around him, he realizes how amazing it is.
"This grass is strange, don't rush in recklessly." Old Ren also became wary, as he seemed to have never encountered anything like this before.
"With your extensive experience, how could you not know this?" Chen Zhou muttered.
“I have never encountered such grass before, but I have encountered similar situations. These grasses seem to have the effect of bewitching people, even those using eye techniques!” Elder Ren said quickly.
Chen Zhou slapped his forehead, only then remembering that he possessed a pupil technique! If it truly had the effect of bewitching people as Elder Ren said, then his pupil technique was the best solution.
Therefore, Chen Zhou immediately activated his pupil technique, the first level of pupil technique essence, and a wisp of starlight quickly filled Chen Zhou's eyes.
Chen Zhou then saw the true situation around him!
The tall grass was all an illusion.
Chen Zhou is still in a jungle, but the grass around him is not this tall, and there are corpses all around him!
Upon seeing this situation using his pupil technique, Chen Zhou suddenly felt nauseous!
The first thing Chen Zhou smelled was a strong stench of blood. There were about six people there, and their bodies had been torn to pieces. Chen Zhou squatted down and, suppressing his nausea, touched the bloodstains on the ground. The bloodstains were still warm.
These people had all died recently.
What disgusted Chen Zhou the most was that everyone died in roughly the same way, and each of them had a strange smile on their lips, with a trace of green saliva left behind!
The green saliva emitted a foul odor, like that of a stinking ditch that had been fermenting for years.
Chen Zhou had never smelled anything so foul.
"Could this be a spirit beast?" Chen Zhou muttered to himself, covering his mouth and nose.
The saliva at the corners of the deceased's mouths didn't seem to come from a human; rather, it looked like it had been dripped onto them by some kind of wild animal.
And by sheer coincidence, the saliva landed precisely on the corner of the deceased's mouth.
The expressions of the deceased were all very strange; each of them wore a smile, as if they had died in their sleep.
"Leave quickly! This place is very strange!" Elder Ren sensed a chilling aura, an aura that even he himself was somewhat wary of, and hurriedly said to Chen Zhou.
Without saying a word, Chen Zhou immediately walked forward.
Before leaving, Chen Zhou carefully examined the six people who had fallen. None of them were the three people from before, so he figured those three should still be safe.
As they continued walking, the stench not only didn't disappear, but became even stronger. To the point that as they went further, Chen Zhou had to use his inner energy to create a barrier in his nose to filter out the stench.
Throughout this journey, Chen Zhou had not restored his eyes and had been using the first level of the Pupil Technique. Just as Chen Zhou was traveling, he saw a huge tree in the distance.
The tree stood like a giant king in the forest. Upon closer inspection, Chen Zhou realized that there were no other trees around the giant tree.
In the distance, Chen Zhou could still see the three people he had initially been following.
