Su Chengye was a little dazed for a moment. The relationship between him and his daughter had been tense for some time.
How come his daughter became peaceful after he got divorced?
After drinking the ginseng tea in his hand, Su Chengye asked someone to prepare lunch.
Su Qingyu thought of Aunt Lian and Su Shunci, and her mind was in turmoil.
He sat back in his chair and thought for a moment before saying, "Father, my fourth sister has been following me to learn how to manage the household for the past six months, and she's managing the shop in perfect order."
"Now that mother is no longer at home, we can't ignore the business outside. Why not let Fourth Sister continue to manage it?"
The outside business Su Qingyu was referring to was the Su family's two silk shops in the capital. Although they couldn't compare to the Lin family's several grain stores, they were old shops and could be considered a stable source of income.
I didn’t think much of it before, but at this time, these two shops are particularly important.
Su Chengye pondered for a moment, then nodded and said, "That's good. The fourth girl has made a lot of progress these days. I heard that the managers of the shops outside all respect her."
Su Qingyu heaved a sigh of relief when he heard he agreed. With these two shops, life would be much easier for Fourth Sister and Concubine Lian.
As for the housekeeper's rights in the inner palace, Su Qingyu never thought of fighting for it for Aunt Lian.
Firstly, Aunt Lian is not in a position to manage the household, and secondly, Second Uncle and his family are coming back soon, and Second Aunt will not allow Aunt Lian to manage the household.
Anyway, there was nothing valuable left in the house, so it wasn't worth keeping. As for Concubine Lian and her daughter, she planned to support them privately.
After chatting for a while, Su Chengye mentioned Su Yuankai to Shen Zhixiu again. It had been three months since Su Yuankai's accident, and he was nowhere to be found, alive or dead.
Su Chengye and the old lady were naturally very concerned about the only son of the eldest house.
However, Shen Zhixiu rejected the request on the grounds that there were still some parts of the case that had not been thoroughly investigated.
After lunch, Shen Zhixiu and Su Qingyu left the Su family and went to the house where Lin Wanyin came as a dowry.
The house was not far from the Lin family's house in the west of the city, in Elm Alley. It was a small house with three courtyards, not large in size, but solemn and elegant.
When the two arrived there, Lin Wuchen was leading his servants to help Lin Wanyin put her things away.
Seeing the young couple coming, Lin Wanyin shook her head and said, "Why are you here? You came out of the Su family and should go straight back to the mansion."
"The rules of returning home are that you can't visit other people during the trip."
Su Qingyu took Lin Wanyin's arm and said coquettishly, "Mom, I'm not visiting, I'm going back to my parents' home."
Although Lin was happy, she still did not let the two into the house and told them to go back to the Shen family quickly.
The two men couldn't persuade Lin, so they had to get on the carriage and return home.
In the Qingyuan Residence where the old lady of the Shen family lived, when Su Qingyu and Shen Zhixiu entered, Chen and Yang were both there.
After the few people exchanged greetings, the old lady asked about returning home.
Su Qingyu and Shen Zhixiu only responded vaguely, planning to explain the changes in the Su family to the old lady alone later.
This kind of thing can't be kept secret, so it's best to tell it as soon as possible.
"When I came in, I heard my mother and two sisters-in-law talking excitedly. What happy things were they talking about?" Su Qingyu sat down next to the old lady and asked softly.
Yang said, "Speaking of our eldest young master's wedding, there are many things to prepare."
Chen gave Yang a sidelong glance and said, "Thank you for your hard work, second sister-in-law. You'll have to take care of the household expenses, so you'll have to worry about it."
Su Qingyu already knew that Chen had been stripped of her position as housekeeper because of the previous incident in the palace. She must have been extremely resentful, so she would take every opportunity to taunt Yang.
Yang was naturally not a pushover, so she sighed and said.
"This is our eldest young master marrying a wife, and the one he is marrying is Princess Chaoyun. How dare I not do my best?"
"It's just that my eldest sister-in-law has too much prestige in the family. I don't dare to go beyond her in many matters."
The old lady's eyes narrowed. "Hmm? What's going on?"
Yang smiled and said, "Don't think too much, mother. It's nothing serious."
"I just found some new snack recipes these past two days and wanted to have the kitchen make them and try them out. If they're delicious, I'd like to prepare them just in time for the eldest young master's wedding."
"But Mrs. Wang in the kitchen said that we should report this matter to the eldest sister-in-law first. I thought about it and it made sense. After all, it's the eldest young master getting married, so it's right to ask the eldest sister-in-law."
Chen was surprised for a moment; she knew about the dim sum. But Yang hadn't mentioned it was for Shen Zhao's wedding; she simply told the kitchen staff to make it for her to try. The kitchen staff, unsure of what Yang meant, went to question her.
She secretly glared at Yang. It was such a small matter, but it was not worth bringing it to the old lady. It was not shameful.
The old lady was also a little unhappy. It was just a plate of dessert, but the sisters-in-law made such a fuss.
In the final analysis, it was because Yang was not capable enough to control the housekeeper in the mansion, and Chen was adding fuel to the fire from behind.
Su Qingyu sat on the sidelines, not saying much, and had no interest in the Shen family's stewardship. No matter how the two of them fought for it, it would never be her turn as the newly married daughter-in-law, so she was happy to watch the fun.
Shen Zhixiu sat there for a while before losing his patience. He didn't want Su Qingyu to be here watching the first and second wives' fights.
"Mother, Qingyu and I will go back and rest for a while, and then come over for dinner in the evening."
The old lady waved her hand and said to Chen and Yang, "You should go back too. You must be tired after accompanying me for so long."
In fact, the two of them only sat there for half an hour, but they were just disliked by the old lady.
On the way back home, Su Qingyu couldn't help rubbing her swollen eyebrows, and her eyes were full of fatigue.
Shen Zhixiu felt a little distressed and asked in a low voice: "Why don't you go back and take a nap? I need to take care of some official business in the study."
