Yuanping Town is the closest town to the outskirts of Beijing, and many families in Beijing have invested in farmland here. The farm where Aunt Xue lives is the ancestral property of the Su family. It's said that a century ago, during the Su family's heyday, this farm provided poultry and meat exclusively for the head of the family. Later, unable to support so many people, several farms fell into disrepair.
The carriage creaked to a halt before it reached its destination. From outside came the rough voices of men speaking and the sounds of boxes being moved.
Jiang Qi walked to the side of the car and said, "Madam, someone is moving something in front. We have to wait for a while. If we take a detour, it will be even farther."
Su Qingyu didn't mind waiting a little longer and said, "Then wait a while."
She lifted the brocade curtain on the carriage window and looked forward through the gap.
Several horse-drawn carriages were carrying things to the houses on the roadside.
They looked like large boxes, five feet wide and half a person's height. It would take four people to lift them in. There were more than twenty boxes on the ground, and it would take more than a few minutes to move them all.
Su Qingyu then said to Jiang Qi, "You guys, go and help."
Jiang Qi also had this idea, and upon hearing this, he led his men forward.
"Brother, let us help you move." Jiang Qi said with a smile, reaching out for the box at his feet.
But as soon as his hand touched the box, he heard someone shout, "What are you doing? Don't touch it."
Jiang Qi was startled suddenly, and then someone came over and grabbed his wrist.
"We mean well, so there's no need to shout so loudly. If you don't move away, we can't get through." Jiang Qi smiled, but his eyes were cold. He slowly reached out and pried the man's hand apart.
Jiang Qi and Wen Zhu have different personalities. Wen Zhu is always steady and serious with her subordinates. Jiang Qi, on the other hand, smiles all day long, and only blushes and becomes shy when facing Zhenzhu.
The guards below all said behind Jiang Qi's back that he was a smiling tiger. He looked easy-going, but he was actually not easy to mess with.
The person whose wrist was broken by Jiang Qi suddenly widened his eyes and was about to attack.
Immediately afterwards, a middle-aged man came out and tried to smooth things over.
"Misunderstanding, misunderstanding. Is this brother going to go over there? We will move out of the way immediately. Why would we need your help? If we move to the side, you will be able to pass by immediately."
After saying that, he glared at the person next to him and ordered everyone to move their things away quickly.
Jiang Qi glanced at the box on the ground and said jokingly, "Could this be some master's money? Why are you so cautious?"
The people who were moving things nearby suddenly became tense. While moving the boxes, they looked at Jiang Qi and others warily.
Jiang Qi brought ten people with him this time, and the other side also had more than ten people. However, he had the women of his family with him, so even though he had some doubts in his heart, he still said, "Just kidding, we're leaving now. Sorry to bother you brothers."
As the carriage passed by, Jiang Qi wore a smile on his face, but he was actually on full alert. The people standing by the roadside were the same, watching Jiang Qi drive the carriage past with caution.
After the carriage passed, someone walked up to the middle-aged man and asked, "Do you want to get rid of the Third Master Shen's men?"
The middle-aged man shook his head and said, “No need. The people sitting inside should be the women of the Shen family. If we act rashly and anger Third Master Shen, it will not be worth it.”
After thinking for a while, he said, "Let's change places and go."
Su Qingyu sat in the carriage, looking at the house she had just passed by. She felt that this place was a little familiar, but she couldn't remember where it was.
They soon arrived at the house where Aunt Xue lived. When Su Qingyu got off the carriage, she casually asked Jiang Qi, "Who were those people just now?"
Jiang Qi shook his head and said, "I can't see through it, but they are all martial artists. Could it be that some master embezzled the money and left it here?"
But these things have nothing to do with them, and they are not something they can delve into.
Su Qingyu no longer paid attention to this matter. She asked Jiang Qi and others to wait outside while she took the pearls and jadeite in.
Jiang Qi was worried, "Madam, how about I go in with you?"
Su Qingyu shook her head: "My father's concubine is inside, it's not appropriate for you to go in. Don't worry, if something really happens, there's jade. Besides, you just guard outside the door, so nothing will happen."
Feicui went forward and knocked on the door, and it was Aunt Xue who opened it.
Su Qingyu almost didn't recognize her. She was much thinner than when she was at the Su's house, and her face was sunken. She looked several years older than when she was at the Su's house.
She was wearing a blue-gray cotton jacket and had only a silver hairpin in her hair.
When Aunt Xue saw that the person coming was Su Qingyu, she was stunned for a moment, then bowed and greeted her.
"Miss, how did you find time to come here? Please come in."
This is a two-story house. Walking through the corridor is a small courtyard with neatly stacked wood on the edge of the courtyard.
Aunt Xue led Su Qingyu into the shabby hall with only one table. She wiped the long wooden bench with her sleeve and said, "Miss, this bench looks worn out. I wipe it every day."
He went to the stove, brought over a kettle, heated a bowl of water and poured it for Su Qingyu.
"Don't be busy, Auntie. Please sit down. I came here to ask you something."
His eyes fell on Aunt Xue's hands, which were covered with crisscrossing cuts from chilblains.
Su Qingyu looked around but didn't see Su Yuankai. She guessed that he was sleeping or playing somewhere.
Aunt Xue poured some water and sat down opposite her, tugging at her clothes awkwardly.
Su Qingyu took the portrait handed to her by Feicui, opened it and placed it on the table in front of Aunt Xue.
"Aunt, please look, is this the person who took the child away that year?"
Aunt Xue took a look and her eyes were fixed on the painting.
"Yes, it's her. She can't be bad."
