Chapter 103 Entering Li Chunyan's Room

Zhang Fan ran into the kitchen at lightning speed.

The snakes had all been killed; it was the severed snake heads that bit Li Chunyan.

Aunt Pang was killing a snake. Li Chunyan, who was carrying vegetables back, wanted to check on how the snake was being killed, but she accidentally stepped on the snake's head.

Snakes have underdeveloped higher nervous centers. When their bodies are cut in two, their brains don't react yet, but under certain conditions, they can trigger conditioned reflexes.

Aunt Pang, holding Li Chunyan in her arms, shouted outside, "Go find Zhang Ping quickly!"

Upon hearing this, Zhang Tiegen immediately dropped the chicken he was killing and ran towards Zhang Ping's house.

When Zhang Ping was at his poorest, he made a living by catching snakes. He had medicine at home to treat snake bites, and people in the neighborhood who were bitten by snakes would go to Zhang Ping's house to ask for the medicine.

Time was of the essence, and every second counted. Zhang Ping's home was quite far away, and it would take time for him to come and go. Every second of delay would increase the danger for Li Chunyan.

The snake's head was tossed aside. Li Chunyan had two small black and red spots on her large ankle. She was half-lying on Aunt Pang's lap, her face pale, her lips black, and her voice weak.

Through her teary eyes, she looked at Zhang Fan and said to Aunt Zhang, "Aunt Zhang, if I die, I hope you can help take care of Zhang Fan."

Aunt Pang wiped away her tears: "Don't worry, Tiegen will definitely bring the medicine back in time. You'll be fine."

Zhang Fan channeled spiritual energy from his fingertips, tapping acupoints on Li Chunyan's legs to curb the spread of snake venom and force out most of it.

Li Chunyan felt as if the water in the ice was gradually warming up. She looked up at Zhang Fan, her eyes filled with astonishment.

Zhang Fan doesn't seem to be stupid anymore.

Zhang Fan said gently, "Sister-in-law, I'm going to find the medicine. Wait for me."

The three of them, Ji Zhi, Ji Chunyan, and Ji Zhi worked together. Two of them blocked the sun, and one of them fanned the sun to keep Li Chunyan from getting too hot.

This feeling was even stronger. Li Chunyan kept staring at Zhang Fan's back, feeling that he seemed to have changed for the better. Overwhelmed by this joy, she even forgot her fear of impending death.

Zhang Fan searched outside for a long time and finally found a Paris polyphylla on a piece of wasteland.

He squatted down, dug around in the soil with his hands, and uprooted the Paris polyphylla.

Back home, Li Chunyan and Aunt Pang remained in the same positions as before, afraid that moving even slightly would accelerate the spread of the toxins.

Whether it was a misperception or not, Li Chunyan felt that her current physical sensations were not immediately different from before.

When she saw Zhang Fan, her eyes lit up. Zhang Fan's expression was serious, and his eyes were no longer dull and lifeless, but had the sharp gleam that only intelligent people have, just like he did before he changed.

Li Chunyan's heart was pounding wildly, her palms were sweating, and her voice trembled as she said, "Zhang Fan, you're back."

This statement has a double meaning: it means that Zhang Fan has gone home, but it also means that Zhang Fan is no longer stupid.

Zhang Fan understood the meaning behind Li Chunyan's words and remained silent.

He only half-squatted, his hands clenched tightly, and the sap from the roots of Paris polyphylla dripped down between his fingers.

The plump aunt looked worried and couldn't help but ask, "Zhang Fan, what is this?"

If handled improperly, it could actually cause Li Chunyan's snake venom to flare up even faster.

Li Chunyan's voice was weak: "I...believe in Zhang Fan."

She was gambling that Zhang Fan had recovered.

Before he became mentally impaired, Zhang Fan was well-read and must have known how to treat snake venom.

Aunt Pang sighed helplessly. Li Chunyan seemed to value Zhang Fan more than herself.

Even if she wanted to stop it, it was too late; the juice had already dripped onto Li Chunyan's snakebite wound.

Aunt Pang prayed that Zhang Tiegen could be quick, so that if Zhang Fan's medicine didn't work, there might still be a chance to save him.

As it turned out, she was overthinking it.

The color of Li Chunyan's lips visibly changed, from bluish-purple to a healthy pink.

Aunt Pang exclaimed, "Chunyan, how are you feeling now? Are you all better?"

Li Chunyan flexed her toes, a numbness spreading through her legs, making her weak. Her face darkened, and her eyes dimmed: "I... seem to have changed."

She thought she was cured, but it turns out the poison hasn't been neutralized yet.

Aunt Pang burst into tears, her voice trembling with sobs: "That damned Zhang Tiegen, why isn't he back yet!"

A hint of surprise flashed in Ji Zhi's eyes. What happened? Did Doctor Zhang make a mistake?

Yan Wang and Wen Tian exchanged a glance, both seeing surprise in each other's eyes.

The same method Dr. Zhang used to detoxify them the night before last, so why is it no longer effective?

Zhang Tiegen rushed in, panting heavily, his face covered in sweat, and he gasped, "Snake medicine...snake medicine..."

The plump aunt raised her voice anxiously, "What happened to the snake medicine?"

Zhang Tiegen's face turned deathly pale: "The snake medicine... we just ran out!"

This place is far from the hospital, not to mention that Zhangjiapo has a grudge against Dr. Niu, the only doctor in the surrounding villages. Even if we find Dr. Niu, he doesn't have the ability to cure snake venom.

Li Chunyan was struck dumb; was she doomed?

What will happen to Zhang Fan in the future?

She looked deeply at Zhang Fan, her eyes filled with reluctance.

What was supposed to be a pleasant banquet unexpectedly turned into a tragedy.

Everyone present was heavy-hearted; the air was thick with tension, and no one spoke.

Zhang Fan's voice suddenly rang out: "Sister-in-law, your legs are just numb."

Li Chunyan suddenly looked up, her eyes filled with disbelief, but she was willing to believe Zhang Fan. She tried to move her legs again and suddenly found that the numbness in her legs was getting less and less, and it felt almost like the numbness from squatting.

"I think I can move again."

She took Zhang Fan's hand, slowly stood up, and was pleasantly surprised to find that her poison had been cured.

Does this mean that Zhang Fan's brain has improved?

Aunt Pang burst into tears of joy: "That's wonderful!"
