Zhang Fan ran home as fast as he could and saw Li Chunyan standing in the middle of the yard, looking troubled. She was surrounded by people, with Xiao Hei squatting next to her.
"Make way." Zhang Fan's voice was icy, his eyes wary. If these people bullied his sister-in-law, he wouldn't hesitate to take action.
Unexpectedly, when these villagers saw Zhang Fan, their faces instantly lit up with ingratiating smiles.
"Zhang Fan is back. This is my aunt's old hen. I was out of my mind today and didn't mean to kick you out."
"These cucumbers were grown with farmyard manure by my uncle. They're sweet, crisp, and juicy. You should try them." He then stuffed dozens of cucumbers into Zhang Fan's hand.
Immediately afterwards, more people stuffed what they were holding into Zhang Fan's arms. In no time, the things piled up into a small mountain, making it hard for him to straighten up.
Most of the vegetables and poultry are grown by themselves.
Zhang Fan understood and put the things in his hand on the ground.
They were all apologizing for kicking Zhang Fan out, but Zhang Fan couldn't tell if they genuinely wanted to apologize or if they thought he knew someone and wanted to curry favor with him.
Zhang Fan put the things on the ground and said with a simple smile, "Uncle, Aunt, Aunt... I don't blame you for wanting me to move out. Are these your moving gifts for us?"
While speaking, Zhang Fan outwardly maintained a simple-minded and foolish demeanor, but in reality, he was subtly observing everyone's expressions.
Upon hearing this, everyone wore expressions of sadness, without any pretense, and none of them had ever asked about Zhao Lin's identity.
In the eyes of these villagers, Zhao Lin was someone Li Chunyan knew from doing business. They probably said they knew Zhang Fan to avoid rumors.
Most of them are quite simple and honest; I never expected them to try to build connections. Now they are sincerely apologizing.
Zhang Fan sighed and didn't make things difficult for them any further.
There will always be friction in relationships. It's not that he's a saint, but he was quite naughty when he was young and did a lot of wrong things. These villagers just scolded him a few times and then forgave him.
When Zhang Fan was 3 years old, he competed with the other children in the village to see who could pee the farthest. A little girl kept crying. When Zhang Fan asked her why she was crying, she said she didn't have that thing. In order to let the little girl experience the pleasure of being a man, Zhang Fan took a pair of scissors and planned to cut off half of the little girl's brother's penis and give it to her.
During the Spring Festival when Zhang Fan was 5 years old, he went to the grave to collect a lot of firecrackers that had failed to ignite. Uncle Wen, who was standing next to him, was squatting in the toilet. He threw all the firecrackers in, which caused the toilet to collapse and his uncle to fall into the latrine, getting covered in excrement.
My aunt was washing my uncle's clothes when she started vomiting, and rumors spread that she was pregnant.
Firecrackers explode leafy greens, firecrackers explode fish; while others are washing dishes, he's washing a manure bucket upstream; he graffiti-covers the walls of someone's new house; he rides an ox into someone's funeral hall and overturns the coffin...
Such incidents are countless. Although these villagers would curse him, it was usually just a verbal sparring session, and they would stop after saying a few words.
There are so many things going on that it's hard to say who's right and who's wrong.
These people genuinely wanted to apologize, and when they heard that Zhang Fan was still leaving, many of them had tears in their eyes, and some even secretly wiped away their tears.
Zhang Fan was deeply moved. These people were simple and honest, but their limited knowledge and narrow-mindedness made them easily misled. Only by learning knowledge and understanding the principles of things could such a thing be prevented from happening again.
These people held Zhang Fan's hand and talked for a long time. They were reluctant to part with Zhang Fan and Li Chunyan, and they told them to come back often and not to forget them...
It wasn't until late at night, when Zhang Fan yawned, that Li Chunyan finally found an excuse to persuade him to leave.
After everyone left, the courtyard returned to tranquility. Li Chunyan called out to Zhang Fan, looking at the fruits and vegetables filling the yard, and said softly, "Zhang Fan, although I'm reluctant to leave this place, I have the same idea as you: to move to the county town."
"Only by going to the county town can we have better development and more possibilities in the future."
Zhang Fan nodded in agreement: "I'll do whatever my sister-in-law says."
Zhang Fan was about to fall asleep when he suddenly heard Xiao Hei call out softly.
Then a woman screamed in fright, but the sound was quickly covered up.
Zhang Fan pricked up his ears and heard the woman's voice, trembling with tears, speaking to Xiao Hei: "I... I meant no harm, I just wanted to find Zhang Fan."
The voice sounded unfamiliar, and Zhang Fan wanted to know who it was, so he opened the door and came out.
"You were looking for me?" Zhang Fan leaned against the door frame, his expression languid.
The woman stood in the shadows, silent for a long time. Zhang Fan lost his patience, went back inside and closed the door. Just as the door was about to close, the woman ran over and forced her way inside, saying, "Wait a minute."
Zhang Fan looked down at the woman and said calmly, "Are you the daughter of the village chief of Baijia Village?"
Bai Ting lowered her head and softly hummed in agreement.
Zhang Fan frowned: "I remember we shouldn't know each other."
Bai Ting raised her head, two lines of clear tears hanging on her almond-shaped face, looking pitiful: "I...can I go in?"
Zhang Fan stepped aside and sat in his own seat.
Bai Ting walked into the house, glanced around to make sure no one was inside, bit her lower lip hard, turned around and closed the door.
Zhang Fan watched Bai Ting's every move with amusement, but soon the calm expression on his face disappeared.
Bai Ting took off her blouse, put her hands behind her back, and directly unzipped her white lace dress.
Large areas of her chest were exposed to the air. Although her skin wasn't as white as Bai Rou'er's or Li Jingjing's, it was a withered, earthy yellow, giving off an impression of malnutrition.
Bai Ting's movements stopped abruptly. Zhang Fan raised an eyebrow slightly. He thought he would see a naked woman, but she was only half-undressed.
