Wei Lai turned his head and saw Luo Chang and Cen Zhi. He knew both of them; he had visited them when they were sick before. Looking further back, he saw a young man of similar age to him.
The other person was tall and handsome, but he was wearing a white T-shirt and wide-legged pants, which was hard to associate with the doctor he knew.
Although he had doubts, he saw the way Luo Chang and Cong Cenzhi looked at Zhang Fan and knew that one cannot judge a book by its cover. He said respectfully, "Thank you."
Zhang Fan nodded slightly and said softly, "Rest more these two days, and you'll be able to get out of bed after a few more days of recuperation."
Luo Chang gave Wei Lai a preliminary physical examination and confirmed that Wei Lai's organs and thinking were not affected, but his body was still relatively weak.
Hearing this, Leng Juan said happily, "Thank you all so much this time, Butler Dai. I must thank you properly later."
After taking Wei Lai's pulse, Zhang Fan wrote several prescriptions and then left with the rhinoceros horn. Butler Dai came out to see him off.
He handed three cards to Zhang Fan and the other two: "Each card contains one million."
Luo Chang and Cen Zhi were both surprised. The corresponding medical expenses had already been settled, and this money was extra.
Butler Dai said, "If it weren't for the two of you doing your best to protect Doctor Zhang, he would probably have been driven away long ago. This is also Madam's wish, so please accept the money."
Luo Chang and Cen Zhi exchanged a glance and said to Zhang Fan in unison, "Young friend Zhang, you got this money because of you, so you should take it."
Zhang Fan held up his bank card: "I've already received my share. You can keep yours. You took a big risk protecting me back then."
Many people believe in seeking advantages and avoiding disadvantages. The two of them took a great risk to help Zhang Fan, and Zhang Fan was grateful.
Luo Chang: "Young friend Zhang, if you ever come to Kyoto in the future, I will never refuse to help you if I can."
Cen Zhi: "Young friend Zhang, it is truly an honor for me to get to know you. If there is anything I can do to help you in the future, I will do my best."
Both men were equally grateful; if it weren't for Zhang Fan, they wouldn't have received so much money.
Butler Dai was secretly astonished. Luo Chang and Cen Zhi were medical giants, and many high-ranking officials in the capital wanted to curry favor with them. Now, the two of them were even calling Zhang Fan brothers.
The two not only treated Zhang Fan with great respect, but also escorted him to his car before leaving.
On his way back to Taohua County, Zhang Fan received a call from Yuan Dao.
Yuan Dao: "I have received the rhinoceros horn."
Zhang Fan raised an eyebrow slightly: "You're giving me a whole rhinoceros horn, aren't you afraid I won't return it?"
Yuan Dao: "I know you, therefore I believe in you."
Zhang Fan: "Last time we met, I just helped you identify cordyceps."
Yuan Dao laughed and said, "Our connection goes beyond that. There's an auction the day after tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at the Jiangcheng Auction House. I'll come pick you up then."
Zhang Fan: "Okay."
A sense of doubt arose in his heart. He had the ability to remember everything he saw, yet he couldn't recall any connection he had with Yuan Dao.
When he got home, it was dinnertime. Li Chunyan wasn't home. There was a hundred-yuan bill on the table, along with a note: "Sister-in-law went out today. Go buy your own food."
Zhang Fan remembered that Bai Rou'er had texted him last night saying she missed him. Just then, the salt at the Ke Lai Restaurant was almost gone, so he called Bai Rou'er to confirm that she was at the restaurant. Then he and Ji Zhi headed towards the restaurant.
Upon entering the restaurant, I saw that all the seats were occupied, and the greeter smiled and said, "The boss is in his office."
Without paying any attention to Zhang Fan, he went to greet the guests behind him: "Gentlemen, all the seats are full now, you will need to wait a while."
Seeing the business in the restaurant, Zhang Fan knew he wouldn't be able to get a meal anytime soon, so he went straight upstairs.
Ji Zhi wisely went to queue up for his meal. There was no other way; once Doctor Zhang went in, who knew when it would end?
Zhang Fan gently knocked on the door, and Bai Rou'er's sweet voice came from inside: "Coming."
The door opened, and a fragrance of flowers after the spring rain wafted out, like a rosebud about to bloom, covered with glistening water droplets, exuding a delicate and captivating aroma that made one feel soft and peaceful.
"Zhang Fan, you're such a busy man, I never see you all day long," Bai Rou'er said coquettishly, hugging Zhang Fan's waist.
Her delicate nose wrinkled slightly as she looked up at Zhang Fan, revealing her meticulously applied makeup.
Today she was wearing a pink and white checkered suit, her hair was styled in a bun, and she looked more mature than before. With Zhang Fan's care, she was even more radiant and glowing.
Her light pink eyeshadow, paired with the natural blush of excitement at seeing Zhang Fan, made her look like a ripe, pink peach waiting to be tasted.
Zhang Fan's lips curled into a wicked smile, and he raised an eyebrow: "Women dress up for those who appreciate them."
Bai Rou'er's cheeks flushed even more, and she shyly let go of his hand, wanting to escape: "I'm ignoring you."
Zhang Fan precisely grasped her slender wrist, and with a gentle pull, Bai Rou'er was drawn into his arms, her ears turning so red they seemed to bleed.
"How could I possibly match the beauty's elaborate attire?"
Zhang Fan kissed the delicate lips of the rose petals. Bai Rou'er's breathing gradually became heavy. Just when she felt like she was about to suffocate due to extreme oxygen deprivation, Zhang Fan finally let go.
When he looked up, Bai Rou'er's lips were swollen and red. Not only were her lips so delicate, but her skin was also incredibly delicate. A light touch would leave red marks that were very noticeable.
After Bai Rou'er caught her breath, Zhang Fan kissed her again, one hand gripping her slender waist, the other tracing her smooth cheek down her flat stomach, continuing downwards...
