The shop assistant was about twenty years old, wearing a gold necklace as thick as a finger around her neck and loafers on her feet.
Bai Rou'er: "Could you please ask the boss for me if there's been any news about Doctor Wu recently?"
The shop assistant's smile turned colder; "I asked the boss this morning, and he said that Dr. Wu is very busy lately and we can't get an appointment with him."
Bai Rou'er pressed her lips together and slowly lowered her head, her eyes dimming slightly.
Zhang Fan walked in and glanced around.
Several rows of cabinets reached the ceiling, each cabinet filled with drawers, each drawer labeled with the name of a medicinal herb, including precious medicines such as ginseng, lingzhi, and snow lotus from the Tianshan Mountains.
The shop assistant scrutinized Zhang Fan, his eyes growing colder and his smile fading.
Zhang Fan was wearing a faded T-shirt, baggy shorts, and slippers; he clearly had no money.
The shop assistant said dismissively, "Our medicines are all quite expensive. You can try the shop next door."
Zhang Fan: "Do you have ginseng here?"
The shop assistant frowned in disbelief: "Our ginseng is very old, the cheapest one costs over ten thousand yuan. Can you afford it?"
Bai Rou'er: "He's rich." That's why she bought the rockfish from him.
Hearing this, the shop assistant was skeptical, but went to get the cheapest ginseng in the store and handed it to Zhang Fan.
The ginseng was small, only the size of a little finger: "This is a five-year-old wild ginseng, priced at 15,000 yuan."
Zhang Fan looked at the ginseng, a glint of light flashing in his eyes: "Are you sure this is a five-year-old wild ginseng?"
It seems this might be the first time this store has done something like this.
The shop assistant took back the ginseng: "If you can't afford it, then leave. I'm showing you this ginseng to give you a heads-up."
Just then, a customer came in to buy cordyceps. The shop assistant immediately greeted him with a smile, put away the ginseng, and went to serve the customers who came in later.
"Mr. Yuan, how much do you want to buy today?"
Man: "Twenty thousand yuan."
"Okay." The clerk quickly weighed the item.
The clerk quickly packed it up and said, "Mr. Yuan, as always, once the cordyceps is boiled in the pot, you must not open the lid, otherwise it will affect the efficacy."
Just as Mr. Yuan was about to pay, Zhang Fan suddenly spoke up: "This is not cordyceps!"
