Chapter 24 Treating the Little Sister's Illness

After exchanging some tender words, Bai Nongrui thought of his wife and quickly made a phone call.

For some reason, the phone on the other end was switched off, and he felt a vague sense of unease.

Bai Rou'er comforted her, "Auntie was probably too busy and forgot to charge her phone."

Mr. Bai was physically weak and became tired and wanted to sleep after talking for a short while.

Zhang Fan and the others quickly left the room.

As Wanzi went to the restroom, Zhang Fan called Bai Rou'er aside.

"There's something I need to tell you. Uncle has a blockage of blood in his body. If it's not expelled, I'm afraid..."

Bai Rou'er held Zhang Fan's hand: "You..."

Bai Nongrui didn't think much of it. In addition, he was quite weak and got sleepy after saying a few words. Bai Rou'er had to take care of things at home, so she agreed to take Zhang Fan home two hours later.

She tidied up a room for Zhang Fan and then drove off.

Zhang Fan figured he had plenty of time, so he might as well refine some pills.

He went to the kitchen to prepare the herbs briefly, and just as he threw them into the cauldron, the door to the room was pushed open a crack.

Looking at her from the side, Zhang Fan saw a round, bun hairstyle.

Knowing she'd been caught, the girl with the bun blushed and pushed open the door, sticking out her tongue: "Brother-in-law, I didn't mean to peek at you."

Zhang Fan: "What is it?"

Her face flushed red, and she spoke haltingly, as if she wanted to say something but then stopped.

After hesitating for a long time, she finally spoke up: "I... my lower back hurts a lot every time I have my period. Do you have any way to cure it?"

After thinking for a long time, Zhang Fan finally understood that she was referring to a woman's monthly period.

His voice was gentle: "Put your hand up here so I can take your pulse."

With a flushed face, the girl with the bun hairstyle reached out her hand. Zhang Fan took her pulse and understood immediately: "There's some blockage. Just clear it up."

"Brother-in-law, what should we do?"

"Acupuncture can be used."

He happened to have bought some moxa sticks: "Lie down on the bed, and I'll give you some moxibustion."

She lay on the bed with her hair in a bun, gently lifting the back of her shirt to reveal most of her back.

This was the first time she had ever lifted her clothes in front of a man. With her hair in a bun, she buried her face deep in the pillow, her ears so red they looked like they could bleed.

Zhang Fan lit the moxibustion and applied it to acupoints such as Yaoyan, Mingmen, and Shenshu.

A warm sensation on her waist made her unconsciously fall asleep.

After finishing the moxibustion, Zhang Fan extinguished the moxa stick, pulled the quilt over himself, and carried the furnace to the woodshed.

The Bai family home is luxuriously decorated and usually uses gas for heating, but in winter they need a fireplace for warmth, which is made of firewood. So they built a woodshed next to the kitchen, as firewood is the best material for the fireplace.

The furnace is not large, so it doesn't require much firewood; the wood from the Bai family is as thick as a person's waist.

Zhang Fan selected a piece of firewood, placed it beside him, circulated his spiritual energy into his palm, and forcefully chopped it. The golden spiritual energy flew towards the firewood like a sword released from a bow.

With a snap, the firewood broke in two.

Zhang Fan followed suit and chopped the firewood into the size he needed.

Zhang Fan lit the firewood and threw it under the furnace, then channeled his spiritual power to intensify the flames.

Flames rose, and soon wisps of blue smoke rose from the furnace.

Less than an hour later, the furnace trembled slightly, and Zhang Fan quickly withdrew his spiritual power and opened the furnace.

Ten Qi-replenishing pills suddenly appeared in the furnace.

Zhang Fan was overjoyed and picked up a Qi-replenishing pill, putting it in his mouth.

Before long, a warm current rose from the dantian and flowed into the limbs and bones through the meridians.

Zhang Fan let out a comfortable groan.

The Qi-boosting pills from last time had too much of an impact on ordinary people. If their bodies were too weak to withstand the effects, they might explode and die.

That's why Zhang Fan delayed giving the Qi-boosting pill to his sister-in-law.

This time, all the pills were made from common medicinal herbs, and their efficacy was only slightly less than that of the Qi-tonifying pills made from ginseng last time, making them suitable for ordinary people.

Zhang Fan put away the Qi-replenishing pill with satisfaction.

Just as he put it away, Bai Rou'er returned.

She lowered her head, looking flustered. When she saw Zhang Fan, it was as if she had found her pillar of support, and she immediately surrounded him.

"Zhang Fan, I'm so confused right now."

As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes and slowly streamed down her cheeks, making her look like a pear blossom with tears in her eyes, a truly pitiful sight.

Zhang Fan wasn't good at comforting people, so he just patted her shoulder gently and said, "You can lean on my shoulder for a bit."

Bai Rou'er leaned on Zhang Fan's shoulder, crying and trembling all over. Zhang Fan put his arm around her shoulder to comfort her.

Bai Rou'er, sobbing, recounted the whole story.

It turned out that Bai Rou'er felt something was wrong when her father called her stepmother but no one answered.

So he made an excuse to go out and find someone to inquire about his stepmother's whereabouts.

The result was that something unacceptable was discovered.

It turns out that my stepmother left home before graduating from high school and worked away from home for many years. Later, she met my father and the two got married.

The stepmother was young, 18 years younger than the father.

At first, Bai Rou'er thought her stepmother had ulterior motives, but after they got married, her stepmother didn't cause any trouble, so she gradually accepted her.

Unexpectedly, after her father fell ill, her stepmother revealed her true colors.

Before falling ill, Mr. Bai decided to divide his property into three parts and even made a will.

Another portion of the property was left by Bai's mother; her father had no intention of giving it to his stepmother.

Bai's mother came from a wealthy family, and the jewelry she left behind was worth more than five million on the market.

The stepmother coveted the property and stole the jewelry while the father was ill, then ran away.

Bai Rou'er is in a dilemma, not knowing how to tell her father the news, fearing that her father would be so angry that he would die.

Zhang Fan narrowed his eyes, noticing a loophole: "Then why didn't she wait until your father died before stealing it?"

Bai Rou'er's pupils suddenly dilated: "You mean there's more to this than meets the eye?"

Zhang Fan nodded slightly. Bai Rou'er was indeed a smart person; it was so easy to talk to a smart person.
