"You were the one who hugged and kissed me just now, and now you're turning your back on me?"
Li Jingjing bit her lower lip, and crystal tears fell down her cheeks: "It must be you who cast a curse on me to make me like this."
"A curse?"
Li Jingjing wiped away her tears, stared wide-eyed, stubbornly refusing to let the tears fall, and spoke in a accusatory tone.
“My mom thinks you’re great at farm work and admires you a lot, but you repay kindness with enmity and cast a spell on me.”
Through Li Jingjing's tearful accusations, Zhang Fan finally pieced together the general outline of what had happened.
Ten days ago, Li Jingjing's father hunted a pheasant in the mountains, which was then stewed into a pot of chicken soup.
Two days later, she went on a blind date with Jiang Tao, arranged by her friend.
Everything was normal until Li Jingjing saw Zhang Fan, and then she became completely strange.
Her heart would race whenever she saw Zhang Fan, and she couldn't help but want to get closer. She would even call out Zhang Fan's name in her dreams at night.
Li Jingjing's parents were extremely worried and immediately took her to see Dr. Niu. Dr. Niu said that she was physically healthy and had no mental problems, and suggested that she be observed more closely.
Then Dr. Niu introduced the two to a shaman, Li, who prayed for rain in the village.
The sorceress, Li, said that Li Jingjing was cursed. Zhang Fan had used the mountain god to put the curse on a wild pheasant, and Li Jingjing was cursed after eating it.
The reason why only Li Jingjing was cursed, the sorceress speculated, was because Li Jingjing was still single.
The sorceress performed a ritual for Li Jingjing, and the curse would be lifted as long as she didn't see Zhang Fan for a while.
Zhang Fan was speechless; this fortune teller really knew how to fool people.
It's no wonder that Li Jingjing's mother saw Zhang Fan with a hostile look in her eyes last time.
Zhang Fan guessed that the fish in the water might have swallowed the divination jade beads, which were then eaten by a pheasant and then happened to be eaten by Li Jingjing.
The two jade beads wanted to merge with the jade bead inside Zhang Fan's body, but the force was too great, causing Li Jingjing's mind to become clouded.
To verify his conjecture and test his divination skills, Zhang Fan used his right thumb to make calculations among the joints of his other four fingers.
The result was that his conjecture was correct.
Zhang Fan: "Are you still so infatuated with me?"
Li Jingjing thought about it carefully, then shook her head and nodded.
Zhang Fan frowned: "What do you mean?"
"My mind isn't as foggy as it was before, but I still want to hold you."
Li Jingjing was filled with grievances and finally couldn't help but burst into tears, her crystal tears falling like beads from a broken string.
Suddenly, her voice stopped abruptly as Zhang Fan covered her mouth.
"Jingjing, what's wrong?" Li Jingjing's mother was knocking on the door.
Li Jingjing was so shocked that she forgot to cry. Her wide eyes were filled with panic as she looked helplessly at Zhang Fan.
Zhang Fan's voice was low as he whispered in Li Jingjing's ear, "You probably don't want anyone to know I'm here, right?"
Li Jingjing shook her head desperately, and Zhang Fan tried to slowly let go of her hand. Sure enough, she didn't make a sound anymore.
"Jingjing, if you don't say anything, I'm coming in." Longping placed her hand on the door and gently pushed it open.
Li Jingjing's bedroom is next to her parents', separated by only one wall.
"Mom... I just had a nightmare. I'm fine, you should go to sleep."
Longping paused, her hand resting on the door. She didn't push the door open, but she didn't leave either.
Zhang Fan heard his heart pounding faster than usual. Looking down, he saw that he was still embracing Li Jingjing, holding her close like a couple in love.
The heartbeat came from Li Jingjing. Because of nervousness, she had a thin layer of fragrant sweat on her face, and her cheeks were flushed, as if she had been drinking.
"You didn't dream about Zhang Fan again, did you?" Long Ping's voice was filled with worry.
"No...no."
"Thank goodness, as long as you hold on until tonight, you'll be safe."
"Um, Mom, I'm sleepy," Li Jingjing replied dismissively.
As her footsteps receded into the distance, Li Jingjing let out a long sigh, her tense body relaxing.
Seeing that Zhang Fan was still holding her, she gave him a resentful look and said, "You should leave now."
Before she could finish speaking, her pupils suddenly contracted.
Longping, who had originally left, turned back and pushed open the door without hesitation.
"Mom... how did you get in?" Li Jingjing stammered, clutching the blanket tightly.
If her mother saw Zhang Fan sharing a room with her, she would surely go crazy.
However, her mother was not angry at all; instead, she looked worried and said, "Look at you covered in sweat. Did you have a nightmare?"
Li Jingjing nodded blankly, then subconsciously looked in Zhang Fan's direction.
There was no sign of Zhang Fan in the room, except for a crack in the window that should have been closed.
The moment Long Ping entered, Zhang Fan swiftly jumped out of the window.
Longping gave a few words of advice and then left the room: "Get some rest, you'll be fine after tonight."
"Mmm," Li Jingjing mumbled in response, pretending to lie down.
After waiting a few minutes, she lifted the blanket, went to the window lattice, and opened the window.
The window overlooks a balcony, and the staircase in her parents' bedroom is the only way downstairs. Li Jingjing assumed Zhang Fan was waiting on the balcony.
To her surprise, when she opened the window, she saw that there wasn't a ghost on the balcony.
Li Jingjing breathed a sigh of relief, then her heart skipped a beat. Could Zhang Fan have fallen off the building?
He quickly opened the door leading to the balcony, rushed onto the balcony, and peered down from the railing.
There was no one downstairs; it was empty. Zhang Fan had already left.
Li Jingjing unconsciously placed her hand on her chest.
For some reason, she felt empty inside.
