Chapter 164 The Mastermind

Li Chunyan looked up in surprise, her expression one of astonishment, and asked incredulously, "What...what are you saying?"

Zhang Fan lowered his head, not daring to look at Li Chunyan: "I'm not stupid anymore."

He wasn't afraid of Li Chunyan, but rather he felt guilty for keeping it a secret from her because Li Chunyan had treated him so well.

Li Chunyan suddenly stood up, staring straight at Zhang Fan, and repeated, "Are you not stupid?"

Zhang Fan avoided Li Chunyan's gaze and said guiltily, "Sister-in-law, I'm sorry."

Li Chunyan raised her hands, and Zhang Fan thought she was going to hit him in anger, so he was prepared to be beaten. But Li Chunyan opened her arms and hugged Zhang Fan.

Her voice trembled, and crystal tears fell like beads from a broken string: "It's good that you're not stupid anymore."

Li Chunyan let out another sob, this time tears of joy.

When did things get better?

Zhang Fan dared not tell the truth: "Last night, I dreamed of an old man with a white beard. He said he was a mountain god who had encountered my lost soul and was now returning it to me."

Despite the glaring flaws, Li Chunyan had no doubt whatsoever. Instead, she clasped her hands together and bowed repeatedly in all directions, saying, "Thank you, Great Immortal."

Seeing Li Chunyan's devout appearance, Zhang Fan felt a pang of guilt once again.

My sister-in-law doesn't actually believe in ghosts or gods, but at this moment she is incredibly devout because Zhang Fan has become a better person, and she has come to believe.

Li Chunyan's joy was short-lived; her expression suddenly turned serious: "You can't tell others that you've changed for the better. If I get arrested, they'll see that you're an idiot and won't make things difficult for you."

A warm feeling welled up in Zhang Fan's heart. Li Chunyan was so good to him. Even though she herself might go to jail, she was still thinking about him.

"Sister-in-law, don't worry, I can handle any problems with the contract."

"I'll be with you."

"You rest well at home and wait for my good news."

"No, those loan sharks are all thugs. Don't fight with them. Your sister-in-law would rather go to jail than see you get hurt." Li Chunyan thought Zhang Fan was going to fight with those people.

"Sister-in-law, I've already spoken with Bai Rou'er about going to see her friends. Don't worry, it'll be safe. Aunt Pang and the others still need you to comfort them, so you have to stay."

Li Chunyan trusted Bai Rou'er, which is why she agreed, but she still had some worries: "You are the most important person, so you must take good care of yourself."

"Sister-in-law, don't worry, you also need to take good care of yourself."

Knowing that Zhang Fan was no longer mentally challenged, Li Chunyan's joy overcame her sadness and fear, and she rallied her spirits to begin thinking of a solution.

Zhang Fan and Bai Rou were sitting in Ji Zhi's car.

Ji Zhi: "Dr. Zhang, should we tell Boss Zhao about this?"

Although Zhao Lin is a legitimate businessman, he has connections with both the legitimate and criminal worlds.

Zhang Fan shook his head, his voice calm: "The other party came prepared; this is a deliberate trap."

Bai Rou'er: How did you know?

Zhang Fan shared his findings, and Bai Rou'er and Ji Zhi simultaneously examined the copy of the contract.

Ji Zhi: "Dr. Zhang, I've heard of this method. There's a new type of liquid abroad that's transparent and invisible when written on, but it gradually becomes visible after a few days. It's usually used to transmit secret messages."

The other party first printed the normal contract, and then used a special solution to print the unfair terms, which is why the terms are slightly distorted.

Zhang Fan: "Let's find the mastermind first. We need to know why they set this trap."

Bai Rou'er: "I've already contacted the boss, but he's not answering my calls. I don't know his location yet, but there are security cameras in the factory. I'll see if I can find any clues."

On the phone screen was the factory's surveillance footage.

A dilapidated van with its license plate obscured by newspapers got out. Seven masked men stepped out, their faces obscured. As soon as they entered, they threw something at Li Chunyan, said a few words, and then began smashing kimchi jars.

Zhang Fan stared at the surveillance footage on his phone screen, his eyes narrowing dangerously.

We have no clues at all, where should we even begin to look for them?

Ji Zhi sniffed the photocopy and then said, "I feel like this smells like spoiled Six God toilet water."

Bai Rou'er also took the photocopy closer and smelled it, then suddenly realized, "I smelled this perfume yesterday."

Just yesterday, she smelled this perfume as she passed a sports car. The scent was so strong that it almost made her carsick.

Bai Rou'er had smelled this perfume in the mall; it was Hermès Garden of the Nile perfume. It smelled a bit like spoiled Six God floral water, and she didn't like the smell, so she didn't buy it.

Bai Rou'er felt dizzy from the smell of the Nile Garden and quickly walked past, covering her nose. Afraid that her disgust was too obvious, she glanced back a couple more times.

A man and a woman stepped out of the sports car. They were dressed fashionably, but the man walked unsteadily, his face was pale and his eyes were dark, suggesting he might have kidney problems.

Although the woman was well-dressed, she had an air of rusticity about her, and she had a surgically enhanced face. Her chin was sharp like a snake spirit, her nose was so high that you could poke a hole in it, and her large, double eyelids made her look like a sad frog.

Bai Rou'er's gaze could no longer be taken off.

It wasn't that the woman was beautiful, but rather that such an obviously surgically enhanced face was extremely rare in the county. She had only ever seen it in the news before, and seeing it in person was a shocking visual experience.

The woman noticed Bai Rou'er's gaze, puffed out her chest haughtily, turned around with exaggerated and affected movements, and took the man's arm as they walked into the Phoenix Restaurant next door.

Bai Rou'er looked down at her chest. Since Zhang Fan had developed her breasts, they had undergone a second growth spurt and were now fluffy, white, and tender, much prettier than a woman's stiff, surgically enhanced breasts.

She had errands to run and was about to turn away without paying attention to the two men when she saw the man, who was supposed to be entering the restaurant, stop in his tracks, dramatically flick his bangs at her, and raise an eyebrow.

Bai Rou'er rolled her eyes. The greasiness almost made her throw up her dinner from the night before. Without a moment's hesitation, she turned and left.

Upon hearing the name Phoenix Restaurant, Zhang Fan frowned slightly: "It seems this matter is inextricably linked to Phoenix Restaurant."

Bai Rou'er asked in confusion, "Their target is only Phoenix Restaurant, why would they target the kimchi business?"

Zhang Fan's lips curled into a cold smile: "Cash flow."

Bai Rou'er instantly understood: "Take the root of the problem."

Zhang Fan nodded slightly, tacitly agreeing with Bai Rou'er's statement. Ji Zhi listened to their conversation, feeling completely bewildered, as if he were listening to a riddle.

Zhang Fan gazed ahead, his eyes deep and thoughtful: "It seems it's time to meet the owner of Phoenix Restaurant."
