Chapter 142 The New Year is almost here

Although Yinreng said he was unwilling, he was smiling happily on the outside.

He wanted Tong Wanyan to depend on him, to order him around, and to be inseparable from him; otherwise, how could he demonstrate the importance of His Highness the Crown Prince?

There's no rush to put up the Spring Festival couplets; we'll wait until the morning of New Year's Eve.

After Tong Wanyan put down the scissors, Yinreng suddenly had a whimsical idea: "No master in the palace has ever cut paper-cuts by herself before. Xiaoyan's cuts are beautiful and novel. Why don't we send some to Father Emperor and Grandmother Emperor?"

Tong Wanyan put the paper-cut window decorations into the box, and upon hearing this, she took out some festive and auspicious ones: "Your Highness has never seen them, so you assume that the ladies of the harem have never cut paper-cut window decorations themselves. If you don't believe me, go to the Emperor's place in a couple of days, and I guarantee there will be a pile of paper-cut window decorations covered in dust."

Yinreng understood immediately. The concubines in the harem could even present imported soups and broths with flowers, let alone simple window decorations.

"Father Emperor will not use them," Yinreng said with certainty.

Hearing his arrogant and smug tone, Tong Wanyan couldn't help but pinch his cheek.

As expected of the Crown Prince who was well-fed by the Imperial Kitchen, he has such delicate and fine skin, even better than some young girls.

"You pinched my face again! I am your husband, do you know that?" Yinreng said angrily, but his voice had no intimidating power whatsoever.

Tong Wanyan leaned into his arms, and he immediately lost his temper.

"Even if you want to pinch him, wait until no one's around. You always gave me face before," Yinreng said softly.

Tong Wanyan smiled sweetly, letting him act coquettishly.

What an adorable young master! Even his half-shaved head looks exceptionally handsome.

"His Majesty doesn't need these paper-cut window decorations, but Grandmother Empress Dowager can. I've picked out twelve; how about we send them all to Ning Shou Palace together? The weather's warm today; hasn't His Majesty visited Ning Shou Palace in a long time?" Tong Wanyan was thinking of the Empress Dowager.

“Xiao Yan is very thoughtful. Let’s go to Grandma’s for a meal then,” Yinreng said.

The Empress Dowager explicitly forbade Tong Wanyan from coming in the cold weather, but when she actually arrived, her face lit up with joy, and she repeatedly said to the nanny beside her, "Isn't the person I love so dearly wonderful?"

The old woman naturally nodded in agreement, saying that it was all that mattered as long as the Empress Dowager was happy. Her happiness meant comfort for them, the servants.

"Didn't I tell you not to come in this weather? New Year's Eve is just a few days away. What if you catch a cold from the wind? Come sit down next to me. Is the hand warmer still warm? Granny, bring a new one!" the Empress Dowager said urgently.

Tong Wanyan glanced at Yinreng, who then opened the wooden box containing the window decorations.

“Xiao Yan is very filial to you, but you always prevent her from visiting you, which makes her feel bad. She just happened to cut some paper-cuts for the window, so she has a reason to bring them to you. Please don’t say anything to her,” Yinreng said.

The Empress Dowager was the most honored woman in the Qing Dynasty, and even the most novel window decorations looked pretty much the same to her.

"Xiao Yan is the most filial and skillful. I love her dearly, how could I bear to say such things? You are talking nonsense." The Empress Dowager protected Tong Wanyan.

Yinreng chuckled without refuting, "I know. Ever since Grandmother had Xiao Yan, she hasn't doted on her grandson. Her favoritism is blatant, and it breaks my heart."

After a wonderful performance of singing and acting, the Empress Dowager was so happy that she almost slapped the table with her hands.

"Has it been sent to the Emperor?" the Empress Dowager asked.

Yinreng said, "Father has concubines and empresses, so it's not my turn. They're usually jealous of me enough, but this time I'll give it to them."

Look at how magnanimous the Crown Prince is.

The Empress Dowager said, "This is what Xiao Yan said, isn't it? You couldn't have thought of so much. But, this is very good."
