New Year's money is given by elders to children to ward off evil spirits and ensure their safety.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year last year, Yinreng gave Tong Wanyan lucky money, claiming it was for the child in her womb.
Tong Wanyan had thought she wouldn't get the job this year, but the surprise she received was truly delightful.
Excitedly, she opened the purse, inside were several exquisite gold lotus flowers, so beautiful that there wasn't a single flaw.
"If I hadn't been holding it in my hand, I would have thought it was a real golden lotus flower," Tong Wanyan said, clearly delighted with it.
Yinreng sat on the edge of the bed, watching her smile, a hint of a smile on his lips: "You will always be my little child, you don't need to grow up, I will protect you."
“Yesterday, when Grandpa held me and called me ‘eldest daughter,’ so that’s what he meant,” Tong Wanyan said mischievously.
Yinreng frowned: "I wasn't drunk yesterday."
"That was probably just sleep talking," Tong Wanyan shrugged.
Her tone was indifferent, but her eyes gleamed with a cunning light.
Yinreng grinned mischievously and pounced on the person onto the bed.
Tong Wanyan's head slammed against the pillow with a thud, and tears instantly streamed down her face.
Yinreng panicked: "Why did you change to a porcelain pillow? It used to be a soft pillow."
"I woke up last night and felt uncomfortable with the soft pillow, so I went to get it and changed it myself." Tong Wanyan's head was spinning: "Sir, if I get stupid from the accident, you'll have to take responsibility."
"Whether you're silly or not, I'll take responsibility. Get up and have breakfast. You can't sleep in on the first day of the Lunar New Year." Yinreng's tone was gentle, just like spoiling an ignorant child.
Tong Wanyan hugged him, buried her head in his chest, and rubbed her face against his chest.
"I know, I know. It's always you, Chunque, or Xiazhu waking me up. Life is like a dream, it's the most important thing. What's the point of always being awake?" Tong Wanyan spouted a bunch of nonsense.
Yinreng placed the clothes she needed to wear in front of her, almost as if he wanted to help her put them on himself: "Hongzhao and Tana are so lazy, they all learned it from you."
“They’re my biological children,” Tong Wanyan said.
After getting dressed, half an hour passed, and sure enough, the two little ones, Hongzhao and Tana, were fast asleep.
They still spit while they talk; no one expects them to be energetic enough to get up early.
The busiest part of the Lunar New Year holiday was finished yesterday.
After eating a bowl of glutinous rice balls, Tong Wanyan said to Yinreng, "How about we go play cards with the Empress Dowager today?"
“Alright, I’ll take Hongzhao and Tana over there in a bit. We’ve been staying at Ning Shou Palace all day. Father should already be there by now, so I can go and play chess with him,” Yinreng said after thinking for a moment.
The decision was made quickly, and the Empress Dowager soon saw Yinreng and his family at Ning Shou Palace.
They brought their families along, and at first glance it looked like they were moving house.
The Palace of Tranquil Longevity had prepared things for Hongzhao and Tana, so only four wet nurses came. Even so, it was still a grand affair.
"I told the Emperor that you were definitely coming. And here you are, in less than the time it takes for an incense stick to burn. My filial son, have a cup of milk tea to warm yourself up." Before the Empress Dowager finished speaking, another announcement came that the Fourth Prince had arrived.
Come to think of it, it makes sense. Yinzhen doesn't have a mother now, and he's not married yet. It would be so pitiful for him to spend the New Year all alone.
He entered with a chilling aura, then smiled and bowed to Emperor Kangxi and the Empress Dowager.
Then, she complained to Yinreng, "Second brother, you didn't wait for me. I went to Yuqing Palace first to go with you, but I heard you left as soon as I got there. Where is my eldest niece? Is she cold? Fourth Uncle prepared a lot of New Year's money for you."
As Yinzhen spoke, he craned his neck to look at Tana.
He was wrapped tightly in a bright red swaddling cloth, and standing on tiptoe, he could see nothing but the blanket.
