Kangxi stood outside the door, dressed in a bright yellow imperial dragon robe, so dazzling that he could not be ignored.
Yinreng was facing the gate when he looked up and saw Kangxi. His pupils contracted slightly, and his eyes flickered.
Hongzhao grinned widely, leaning outwards as if seeking a hug from Kangxi.
Tong Wanyan watched Yinreng and his son intently, reacting immediately to their every move.
Looking back, Kangxi stood there with a smile on his face, his mood incredibly gentle.
She quickly turned around, knelt down, and bowed, saying, "Greetings to Your Majesty."
"Get up. I just came to take a look around. You all go about your business." Kangxi said, thinking himself being gentle.
After so many years as an emperor, how could people not take him seriously when he was just standing on the sidelines?
Tong Wanyan looked at Yinreng with unease and anticipation, hoping that he could make arrangements for the old man.
Yinreng smiled and said, "Father, please feel free to look around. Your son would never dare to neglect you. Xiao Yan is currently painting portraits of your son, grandson, and granddaughter. If you don't mind, would you like Xiao Yan to paint one for you as well?"
Kangxi certainly didn't mind. He had seen Tong Wanyan's paintings many times at Yinreng's place, and they were no less skilled than those of the painters employed in the palace.
"It seems I have never had my portrait painted with you before, this is wonderful." Kangxi was very much looking forward to it, but he spoke with restraint.
Emperor Kangxi glanced at the painting by Tong Wanyan. He had just begun to paint the painting; it wouldn't be difficult to include him in the picture.
Yinreng sat on the right, holding Tana, while Kangxi took Hongzhao and sat on the left.
It is extremely rare to see three generations of a royal family depicted in the same scene.
Tong Wanyan took a deep breath to calm her slightly excited heart, steadied her wrist, and began to paint.
If it were just Yinreng sitting there, Tong Wanyan could make him sit there for an hour without moving.
With Kangxi and the two chubby little ones around, Tong Wanyan had to finish quickly to avoid making them uncomfortable.
Half an hour later, Tong Wanyan finished drawing the draft.
Kangxi and Yinreng patted their thighs and left, leaving Hongzhao and Tana to play on the carpet.
With the two mountains gone, Tong Wanyan breathed a sigh of relief. But as Kangxi's gaze kept sweeping over her, her heart felt like it was being squeezed.
"How dare you two stare directly at the Emperor's stomach? And Hongzhao even dared to pull his beard, you're really something," Tong Wanyan whispered.
Hongzhao proudly raised his head: "Hongzhao, you're amazing."
Tana hugged Hongzhao domineeringly: "Little brother, you're chubby and powerful."
Tong Wanyan laughed out loud: "Your brother isn't as fat as you are. You two are evenly matched, so neither of you should say anything to the other."
"Mommy, hug me." Tana recognized that Tong Wanyan was talking about her and immediately said in a childish, coquettish voice.
"I'll have to wait a while before I can hold you. Come and see if your mother's drawing of you is pretty!" Tong Wanyan gestured for Tana's wet nurse to pick her up.
Brightly colored oil paintings easily attract children's attention.
Tana looked at the colorful portrait with great interest, and pointed to the two people dressed in yellow on her left and right, saying, "Grandfather, Father!"
“Yes, this is your Grandfather, and the one next to him is your Father,” Tong Wanyan said gently.
She continued applying color with her hands, while Tana lowered her head slightly and continued to watch intently.
A moment later, she pointed her chubby finger at two dolls dressed in red clothes embroidered with auspicious patterns and said happily, "Me and my little brother."
"Tana is so smart. Do you like her?" Tong Wanyan coaxed gently.
Tana tilted her head and said, "Learn."
One word sealed her fate for decades of studying art. Tana is now completely unaware of the hardships that lie ahead.
