Chapter 248 The Hunt Begins

Despite his inner turmoil, Yinreng ultimately did not allow Tong Wanyan to suffer.

He cherished his own precious darling more than anyone else. Tong Wanyan had been exhausted all day, and he couldn't bear to fuss over her that night.

Tong Wanyan nestled in Yinreng's arms and slept soundly all night.

The next day, when he woke up, Yinreng, unusually, did not get up early to go out. Instead, he woke up and stared at Tong Wanyan with his eyes open.

"My arm is numb."

When Tong Wanyan stretched in Yinreng's arms, Yinreng said this in a particularly down-to-earth way.

The aggrieved little voice made Tong Wanyan chuckle.

"Let me massage your arm. There's a pillow here, you can just pull your arm back. Why stay up all night without moving?" Tong Wanyan sat up cross-legged and bent down to massage Yinreng's arm.

His arms were all muscular, and Tong Wanyan was strong, so massaging him was the most comfortable thing for her.

Yinreng squinted his eyes in enjoyment: "I want you to fall asleep in my arms. What kind of man is he if his arms don't go numb?"

Tong Wanyan smiled even more happily: "That sounds nice, I like it. Actually, my neck is a little stiff too."

Stiff arms, nowhere is a soft pillow more comfortable to sleep on.

Tong Wanyan and Yinreng were so inseparable that they wanted to be one with each other. Even if they felt a little uncomfortable after waking up, they were happy to accept it.

"Come here, let me rub it for you." Yinreng pulled him into his arms: "You're such a spineless coward. Lie down properly. We have to go hunting later, and it won't be good if you hurt your neck."

Tong Wanyan lay on his lap with a grin, and out of boredom, she even started plucking Yinreng's leg hair.

Yinreng hissed in pain, staring at Tong Wanyan in disbelief, never expecting her to commit such a cruel and inhumane act.

"Oops, oops, hehe." Tong Wanyan smiled ingratiatingly at Yinreng, feeling guilty.

Yinreng wanted to get angry at her, but he couldn't bring himself to do it.

"Next time, be quicker, or I won't feel the pain." Yinreng's helpless expression turned into a doting tone.

Tong Wanyan was just a bit playful and never really intended to pluck all of Yinreng's leg hair to make it smooth and shiny.

Our bodies and hair are gifts from our parents, and so are our body hair.

"I won't pull it out, I feel sorry for Grandpa," Tong Wanyan said pleadingly.

A warmth rose in Yinreng's heart: "I understand your heart."

After finishing his breakfast, Yinreng recalled the incident and suddenly realized something was amiss.

It was clearly Tong Wanyan who was being naughty at first, but later it turned into him thanking her for being considerate.

He was really used to being bullied. When she slapped him, he was worried that her hand would hurt.

During the hunt, the group would gather, and the forest would be heavily guarded by guards to prevent the presence of ferocious wild animals and malicious people.

After Emperor Kangxi shot the first arrow and killed a deer, the princes, nobles, women, and guards went off to hunt.

Each person's arrow has a unique identifier at the fletching. In this way, even if several people hit the same prey, the prey can be identified by the arrow that caused the fatal wound.

Tong Wanyan and her sisters-in-law naturally acted together, while the concubines brought by Kangxi only planned to stroll around the entrance of the forest and had not even considered hunting.

The brothers, including Yinreng, would compete based on the quantity and size of their prey, so they would inevitably go deep into the forest. The clumsy rabbits on the outskirts could be left for the women to hunt as a pastime.

The three sisters-in-law consciously took Tong Wanyan as their leader.

Yesterday's horse race truly won them over.

Don't assume that only men admire heroes; women do too.

"Second Sister-in-law, you were amazing yesterday! My palms are red from clapping so much for you." Ulanara Fanghui became Tong Wanyan's little shadow, sticking to her wherever she went.

She was followed by guards, and even if she didn't catch any prey, the guards would do it for her to make her look good.

Tong Wanyan raised her hand and drew the bowstring, shooting down a running gray rabbit.

"Let me see, don't slap it until it's swollen, or my fourth brother will come to me for compensation," Tong Wanyan teased, revealing a hint of a playboy.

Not to be outdone, Dong'e Hailan shot a roe deer. She was someone who would walk side by side with her second sister-in-law, and couldn't rely on just acting cute.

In reality, she knew that acting cute was useless, so she decided to show some strength and make people take her seriously.

Small prey are usually killed instantly after a single shot. The more tenacious ones may run a few steps, but they will also die from excessive blood loss.

The guards retrieved the game that their masters had hunted and presented it to them so that they could see their spoils.

"Second Sister-in-law is really amazing. I've been watching this rabbit for a long time, but it's too alert and fast. I drew my bow several times, but I couldn't even hurt its fur. It was Second Sister-in-law who shot it with one arrow." Ulanara Fanghui looked at Tong Wanyan and Dong E Hailan, who both had prey, and wasn't jealous at all.

"You're after its snow-white fur and want to hunt it to make clothes, aren't you?" Tong Wanyan saw through Ulanara Fanghui's thoughts at a glance.

Ulanara Fanghui lowered her head shyly: "Second Sister-in-law guessed right again. Gray rabbits are common, but white rabbits are very rare. It's rare to find a white rabbit with pure white fur. I want to make a scarf from it."

Ulanara Fanghui doesn't lack these pelts, but the feeling is different when she hunts them herself.

Tong Wanyan reached out and poked the white rabbit's chubby belly: "We'll eat the meat of this rabbit at noon, and the fur will go to Fourth Sister-in-law."

Ulanara Fanghui covered her face in surprise; her second sister-in-law was even better to her than her master.

"This is my second sister-in-law's prey, and a rare white rabbit at that. I can't take away what she desires. I'm happy that she cares about me," Ulanara Fanghui said with a happy smile, maintaining her composure.

Tong Wanyan said, "I originally intended to hunt it for you. You're young, and to me, you're no different from my own younger sister. If my sister likes it, what's wrong with me giving it to her as her older sister? Besides, if I give you the fur, you'll look good in it, and I'll also find it pleasing to the eye."

Dong E Hailan listened to Tong Wanyan's words from the side, her heart trembling.

She secretly rejoiced that Consort Tong wasn't a man; otherwise, how many women's hearts would she have captured? He was so skilled at charming women; it was an irresistible, gentle haven.

"Second Sister-in-law, you hunted so many rabbits, why choose this one to eat? It looks so plump, it's probably very oily." Dong E Hailan, envious of Ulanara Fanghui's favor with Tong Wanyan, changed the subject.

Tong Wanyan smiled mysteriously: "You don't understand. It may be fat, but its flesh is definitely very firm. Just by looking at how fast it runs, you can tell it's always on the move. If it weren't for its pure white body, and the fact that it's summer now with withered branches and green grass in the forest, it would be too conspicuous; I might not have been able to hit it."

When it comes to food, Tong Wanyan is quite knowledgeable.

Dong E Hailan and Ulanara Fanghui didn't dwell on it. They laughed and joked as they continued walking forward, hoping to hunt some pheasants, foxes, or the like.
