Chapter 399 Proposing to Tana

As the banquet drew to a close, the people who had come looking for Tana and Danjin approached from a distance.

With their separation imminent and uncertainty about whether they would ever meet again, Danjin couldn't help but ask, "I heard that the Emperor has come to Mongolia to choose a husband for his most beloved granddaughter. Can I be one of the chosen ones?"

Tana was surprised that he had spoken the words she was about to say.

“Most Mongolian princes have three wives and four concubines. There are quite a few princesses who have married into the Qing Dynasty, but few of them have a harmonious marriage with their husbands. My fifth aunt’s princess residence, although ornately decorated, is quite desolate. If you want to be my husband, you can’t be like them.” Tana, despite her young age, saw things very clearly.

Danjin pursed his lips and hesitated for a moment before huffing and puffing, "I'm different from them. I fell in love with the princess at first sight, not for the sake of a political marriage. I just want to marry the person I love and treat her well for the rest of my life."

A teenager, just beginning to experience the stirrings of love, tastes the thrill of romance for the first time.

When he saw her at the banquet, it was an instant, unforgettable. She was so noble and beautiful, and in front of the emperor, she was as free and joyful as a lark.

He used to be indifferent to his status, but after meeting her, he felt incredibly fortunate to be the son of a prince and qualified to marry a princess.

Danjin's intense gaze was fixed intently on Tana.

Tana smiled and said, "Then come with me to see Mother."

"Huh? Is this okay?" Danjin was eager to try, but worried that his actions might be rash and give his future mother-in-law a bad impression.

"My mother said that if I find a boy I like, I must introduce him to her. My mother is so wonderful, gentle, kind, and understanding. There is no better person in the world than her." Tana, acting like a mother simp, praised Tong Wanyan as if she were a celestial being.

Danjin stared at her, secretly hoping that one day she would praise him to others in the same way.

As Danjin thought about it, he chuckled to himself.

Good-looking people are likable even when they're just smiling foolishly.

Tana lightly spat at him, then shyly tugged at her sleeve to ease her nervousness: "Are you going or not?"

"Go, go, go. I should pay my respects to Consort Tong and assure her that she can rest assured," Danjin said hastily.

The servant who came looking for Tana watched helplessly as the heir of the Khorchin Prince's family followed his princess blindly, and was filled with mixed emotions.

If the princess suddenly takes people to meet the elders, won't the concubine be frightened?

Tong Wanyan wasn't scared at all. She saw Danjin acting like a submissive wife, obediently letting Tana lead her in, and she was very satisfied with her.

She has excellent eyesight; during the banquet, she noticed that the young man's gaze kept drifting towards Tana.

It's just that her daughter is a bit too bold; she brought him back after only meeting him once.

"Please sit down, Your Highness. Thank you for taking care of Tana just now." Tong Wanyan looked at Danjin with a smile.

He had clear, honest eyes, a sincere attitude, and a composed demeanor; most importantly, he was good-looking. Like a little cheetah, his appearance wasn't particularly rugged, and he looked exceptionally well-matched standing next to Tana.

"Are you a member of the Empress Dowager's clan?" Tong Wanyan knew his identity, but still asked.

Danjin mustered his courage and gave a deep bow: "Danjin greets Consort Tana. My surname is Borjigit, and I am indeed of the same lineage as the Empress Dowager. Consort Tana, I wish to ask you for permission to marry Princess Tana. I will make her as free and happy as an eagle on the grassland."
