Chapter 4 The Crown Prince is a Panacea

Emperor Kangxi has been very unhappy lately, and his ministers have been greatly affected as a result.

This young emperor was ruthless, and they dared not say much, but could only secretly inquire who had offended him.

Crown Prince Yinreng, who was deeply favored by the emperor, was naturally approached by Suo'etu.

Facing his anxious uncle, Yinreng smiled gently and elegantly, displaying the composure befitting a crown prince.

"It must be that the ministers are being too sensitive. I've noticed that Father Emperor has been in a very good mood lately!" Yinreng's eyebrows and eyes were full of smiles, and he didn't take Suo'etu's words seriously.

Suo'etu held the cup suspiciously, his mind churning through the rising steam.

“Why don’t you ask the Emperor, Your Highness? Mingzhu was severely reprimanded this morning. Although it’s better to sacrifice a friend than myself, my memorial has already been rejected three times,” Suo’etu asked tentatively.

Among all the civil and military officials, only a few could truly be considered the emperor's most trusted and important ministers.

Soetu is one, and Mingzhu is another. Now that these two have gotten involved, if the Tong family is criticized again, then something really serious is going on.

If Suo'etu hadn't mentioned it, Yinreng really wouldn't have noticed.

As the apple of Kangxi's eye, he always saw gentle breezes and fine rain.

"Your Highness, His Majesty requests your presence at the Qianqing Palace." The young eunuch bowed and tiptoed to Yinreng's side.

As if on cue, Yinreng and Suo'etu exchanged glances, feeling unusually nervous.

"Uncle, I'm leaving now." Yinreng waved away the servant who came to report, and comforted the uneasy Suo'etu.

Soetu nodded solemnly, looked around again, and then whispered to Yinreng like a thief: "Your Highness, be careful and don't make any mistakes. We servants can accept a little scolding, but we must not implicate Your Highness."

Yinreng clenched his fist, pursed his lips, and said thoughtfully, "I know."

Emperor Kangxi, sitting on the grand dragon throne, felt a deep sadness in his heart.

Since the Crown Prince took a concubine, he has never had a long, intimate conversation with him again. Thinking back to how the Crown Prince used to fawn over him, how affectionate and tender he was. But now, it's best not to mention it.

Emperor Kangxi shook his head sadly, sighing repeatedly. "A son is no longer under his father's control once he grows up."

When Yinreng entered the Qianqing Palace, he heard this sound and quickly withdrew his foot. He carefully recalled recent events, big and small, going through them all.

But he really didn't cause any trouble!

"Baocheng is here?" Kangxi wasn't old yet; he could still recognize his son's footsteps.

Yinreng smiled awkwardly, strode up to Kangxi, and bowed respectfully: "Your subject greets Your Majesty."

Looking at his son, whom he had raised himself, who was handsome and dignified, Kangxi was very pleased.

He pointed to the nearest seat, gesturing for Yinreng to sit down and talk.

"I heard you've been spending the whole month at Lady Tong's place? Actually, you don't need to worry about me favoring the Tong family's daughter. You are the emperor, and they are the subjects. How can the emperor be wronged because of his subjects?"

Emperor Kangxi treated Yinreng like both father and mother, giving him all his loving fatherly affection.

Such heartfelt words should not come from the mouth of an emperor.

Yinreng's heart was warmed, and he said with tears in his eyes, "Father loves his son, and I should repay him. Besides, Lady Tong is a person of excellent character, and I am willing to favor her a little. In any case, I cannot fail to live up to Father's love."

His comforting words instantly calmed Emperor Kangxi, who had been anxious for over half a month.

Emperor Kangxi held his son's hand and began to reminisce about the past and recall the kindness of Empress Hesheli.

Taking the opportunity, Yinreng asked Kangxi about some trivial matters between him and Empress Hesheli. Kangxi, who was in high spirits, answered all his questions without reservation.

Inside Yuqing Palace, Suo'etu's buttocks ached from sitting so long, but the Crown Prince still hadn't returned.

Now that there was no proper mistress in Yuqing Palace, he couldn't very well linger. After waiting another quarter of an hour, he still hadn't seen Yinreng's Suo'etu, so he could only return home with a heavy heart.

Actually, he had another matter to discuss with Yinreng today.

The daughters of the Hesheli family are all quite good, possessing both virtue and talent, and outstanding beauty. His sister had passed away many years ago, and in order to prevent the Hesheli clan and Yinreng from drifting further apart in the future, he wanted to send another niece to Yuqing Palace.

Unfortunately, no sooner had he arrived than Kangxi's men followed, forcing him to keep his worries to himself for a while longer.

Time flies, and by the time Tong Wanyan finished embroidering a handkerchief with a kitten chasing butterflies, it was getting dark.

"What time is it now?" Tong Wanyan turned to ask the palace maid.

Xia Zhu gently massaged her neck and said softly, "Replying to Your Highness, it is already 5:15 PM. The Crown Prince sent someone back to tell you that he will be staying in the palace today and will not be returning to Yuqing Palace."

Seeing Tong Wanyan's expressionless face, she teased, "The Crown Prince also instructed the servants to urge you to go to bed early and not stay up late reading storybooks."

Xia Zhu was a very charming girl, and Tong Wanyan glanced at her shyly. The allure of her lowered head, her eyes sparkling, made Tong Wanyan's heart flutter.

No wonder the Crown Prince, who had seen so many beauties in the harem, still fell head over heels for her mistress.

Anyone who meets such a person would find it hard to let go.

Tong Wanyan had been feeling unwell for the past few days, and the fact that Yinreng hadn't returned to cause trouble suited her perfectly.

She lazily offered her hand: "Help me up."

Xia Zhu, drooling, helped the person up with a fawning smile. Touching their delicate, smooth skin, she both regretted not being a man and was thankful for it.

Emperor Kangxi kept Yinreng in the Qianqing Palace for a long talk. The tender affection between father and son made the jealous concubines in the harem tear up a large number of handkerchiefs.

They were suffering in silence, not only having to compete with their own kind, who were as fierce as wolves, for the throne, but also with Yinreng, this precious gem.
