Yuqing Palace appeared calm and peaceful, without causing any major uproar over the arrival of another master.
Emperor Kangxi was very satisfied with this, feeling that Fucha Yuxian was quite well-behaved and Tong Wanyan was also dignified and generous, and did not act recklessly because of their offspring.
The fall from grace of Li Jia, Tang, and Fan was an accepted fact within Yuqing Palace.
After Yinreng stayed at Ruyuxuan every night, Kangxi became anxious again.
Three days after Tong Wanyan finished her postpartum confinement, Kangxi, after discussing state affairs with Yinreng, suddenly took his hand earnestly.
"Baocheng, you shouldn't spoil Lady Fucha too much. Lady Tongjia is quite favored by the Empress Dowager, so you have to consider her feelings." Kangxi was practically telling him directly, "Go ahead and spoil Lady Tongjia."
Yinreng lowered his head with difficulty: "Xiao Tongjia has just finished her postpartum confinement. I would like her to rest more."
Kangxi didn't believe it. As men, they all knew each other's little schemes.
"I plan to promote Tong Qinian and Tong Ruita again in a few days. You should be careful not to make things too difficult for them." Kangxi guessed that Yinreng probably disliked Tong Wanyan because she had just finished her postpartum confinement and her appearance was not good.
Under Kangxi's gaze, Yinreng deliberately feigned a conflicted expression.
After a long silence, he scratched his head and said shyly, "I know, Father. I'm so ashamed that I'm causing you worry at my age."
When Yinreng was a child, he often said these words, and Kangxi immediately shed his imperial majesty and only showed his fatherly love.
"Raising a child is a lifelong worry, even for a hundred years. When Hongzhao grows up, you will understand the heart of a father. You are my most beloved and proudest child, and I hope you will not go astray," Kangxi said.
Emperor Kangxi was a chatterbox; once he started talking to Yinreng, he couldn't stop.
As darkness fell, Kangxi told Yinreng to go back more than ten times, but he couldn't help but keep nagging him.
Being an emperor is very stressful, and among all the people in the Qing Dynasty, only Yinreng truly understood Kangxi's thoughts.
Yinreng returned to Yuqing Palace with satisfaction and solemnly bathed and changed his clothes.
After dressing impeccably, he walked towards the South Courtyard with a beaming smile and light steps.
It's exhausting to outwit and outmaneuver the old man; he's completely drained.
When the Imperial Noble Consort was still alive, he could still go to the South Courtyard through the secret passage, but now the secret passage has been sealed off. He missed Tong Wanyan terribly, having not seen her for so long.
Fucha Yuxian waited for Yinreng in the side room as usual, but she didn't even get a word of explanation.
She sat blankly in the chair and groped her way to the main room in the dark.
The room still smelled of ambergris, as if Yinreng were still there.
She lay on the bed, gazing longingly at the blankets where Yinreng had lain.
"My lord, do you know how much I love you? What's so good about Tongjia? She's just a lowly concubine's daughter. How can she compare to me? My lord, how can I bear to see you hurt like this? Why don't you let your darling suffer a little for now?" Fucha Yuxian's smile was eerie. The moonlight shone through the window paper, illuminating her face and making her look like a monster.
When Yinreng saw Tong Wanyan, she was standing by the window, her waist so slender it seemed impossible to encircle her.
Her fair and delicate face was like the finest jade, and she smiled as if she were about to ascend to heaven.
"Xiao Yan." Yinreng felt inexplicably ashamed.
Even though he went to Ruyuxuan every day, he went straight to the main room and didn't meet Fucha Yuxian, he still felt that he had let her down.
"Xiao Yan, will you wait a few more years for me?" Yinreng hesitated for a few steps, then stepped forward and hugged Tong Wanyan from behind.
Only he knew the fear he felt inside.
"Hmm? Okay!" Tong Wanyan turned around, snuggled into his arms, and leaned obediently against his chest.
"I'm sorry," Yinreng murmured.
Tong Wanyan chuckled softly, "I know you did this for me. Although I feel bad, I know it's what I should suffer. You've done all this for me, do you think I'd be pretentious and demand perfection? You care about me, and I care about you too."
Her hand rested on his chest, and she could hear his strong heartbeat.
"You are my heart." Yinreng hugged her tightly and whispered.
After months of abstinence and days of longing, sparks flew the moment their eyes met.
De Shun and Chun Que stood guard outside the door, and even though the sounds inside were unclear, they still blushed with embarrassment.
Xia Zhu tried to come closer, but Chun Que glared at her and stopped her.
"Go prepare some balm, and you can start the medicinal bath. We probably won't be able to rest well tonight, so keep a close eye on things," Chunque said to Xiazhu.
Xia Zhu thought it was a good idea and hurried off to prepare perfume for her concubine.
Just think about how delicate the concubine's skin is; it can't withstand any abuse.
De Shun watched silently from the side, and after Xia Zhu walked away, he seemed to be deep in thought.
"What's wrong with her?" De Shun asked.
"Too young, and her mind is a bit impetuous," Chun Que said in a deep voice. She needed to have Granny Ling teach Xia Zhu a lesson.
