Yinreng acted coquettishly towards Tong Wanyan, clinging to her like a giant pest.
The servants who were supposed to be serving them had already retreated outside the door, unable to bear watching the couple's reversed roles.
Tong Wanyan smiled and coaxed Yinreng, finding his coquettish manner exceptionally adorable, and she couldn't get enough of liking him.
"My ninth brother was showing off to me today. His wife embroidered a purse for him by hand. But I think, from the color scheme to the embroidery, it's not as good as my darling's." Yinreng gently stroked Tong Wanyan's flat belly, his voice tender.
Listen carefully to the unspoken meaning. Tong Wanyan's gaze fell on the purse hanging on Yinreng's leg, and the smile in her eyes overflowed like starlight.
It had indeed been quite a while since she had made anything for Yinreng herself.
Looking at the dragon horns of the embroidered dragon, the color of the embroidery thread is much lighter than the rest, and there is some wear, indicating that it has been frequently rubbed by fingers.
“Ninth Brother and Ninth Sister-in-law are such a loving couple, what do I have to compare myself to them for? Oh, by the way, I left something in the wardrobe. It’s a small wooden box, about the size of a palm. Could you please fetch it for me?” Tong Wanyan said.
Yinreng couldn't help but laugh, and he affectionately lowered his head, pressing his forehead against hers.
"Now, even when you're trying to surprise me, you're not putting any thought into the excuses?" Yinreng said.
Tong Wanyan tilted her head back and lightly pecked him on the cheek: "How about this? Is that sincere enough?"
Yinreng was too easy to coax; he strode happily toward the wardrobe.
"Let's get this straight, one purse isn't enough for me." Yinreng's words were completely at odds with his light and quick steps.
Tong Wanyan shifted to a more comfortable position, resting her back on a soft pillow, looking relaxed and languid.
"I don't know, I just left something behind, it's nothing like a purse or anything like that," Tong Wanyan said innocently.
Yinreng didn't believe her: "You're just saying that. What could possibly be in the closet?"
"Perhaps he's hidden a few ingots of gold," Tong Wanyan said, spouting nonsense.
"Let alone a few ingots of gold that would catch your eye, I even built you a golden house, but I haven't seen you specially send someone to guard it," Yinreng said.
Two years ago, on Tong Wanyan's birthday, Yinreng gifted her a miniature palace, made entirely of gold inside and out. Placed under the sunlight, the gold gleamed so brightly it hurt the eyes; it was ostentatious and dazzling.
Tong Wanyan smiled without saying a word, watching Yinreng bend over and open the cabinet door to take out the box.
The wooden box was exquisite, with a weight that could be held in one hand. Yinreng held it with both hands as if it were a rare treasure.
Yinreng placed the wooden box on the empty coffee table, took a deep breath, and opened it with anticipation.
Inside the wooden box were an apricot-yellow purse embroidered with a black four-clawed dragon, and several plain-colored embroidered handkerchiefs.
There was a bulging area in the purse, as if something was inside.
Yinreng took out his purse and looked at Tong Wanyan expectantly.
Tong Wanyan raised an eyebrow and curled her lips into a smile: "Aren't you going to open it and take a look, sir?"
"Look, look, I'm touched for a moment." Yinreng didn't expect that he would actually have a gift.
Inside the purse was a jade thumb ring.
The white jade thumb ring with a bluish tinge looked somewhat familiar.
"Is it made from the jade that Tong Qinian brought back?" Yinreng remembered that a few months ago, Tong Qinian handed him a piece of jade and asked him to give it to Tong Wanyan.
Tong Wanyan shook her hand, rolled up her sleeves a few times, revealing her fair and slender wrists.
The jade bracelet on her wrist and the jade thumb ring clearly came from the same piece of jade.
“I’ll send that jade to the Imperial Household Department and have them make just one bracelet.” Tong Wanyan pointed to the jade thumb ring that Yinreng was eagerly wearing on his thumb: “I tried to make a thumb ring out of the remaining bracelet core.”
Yinreng turned the jade thumb ring he had put on. The inside of the ring was smooth and soft, and the patterns carved on the outside were exquisite.
"Actually, I'm not that short of things. The things you made for me before, I can still wear if I'm careful. Don't bother with them anymore." Yinreng said this insincerely, rubbing the jade thumb ring between his fingers, reluctant to let go of it for a long time.
