Chapter 49 Undercurrents

Fucha Yuxian and the others were sitting in the waiting room until their backs ached. They kept getting their tea refills, but no one had come yet.

Unfortunately, they couldn't say anything, since they hadn't sent their visiting cards in advance.

The first secondary consort bestowed by the Emperor, in the absence of the Crown Princess in Yuqing Palace, was not much different from the primary consort.

Tong Wanyan can handle this much.

As Fucha Yuxian picked up her third cup of tea, footsteps could be heard in the distance.

The four people's eyes met instantly, conveying their respective reactions.

Tong Wanyan was followed by six palace maids and two nannies, making her look very impressive.

This is the true identity of the mistress of Yuqing Palace, and this is the favored concubine of Tongjia.

Tong Wanyan looked at everyone with a smile, her pride was obvious without her having to put on airs.

"Today is truly a joyous occasion, it's rare to have everyone gathered here! This must be Consort Fucha, she is indeed a beautiful woman." Tong Wanyan's eyes were filled with smiles, and she looked very sincere.

Fucha Yuxian's puffed-up air deflated as soon as Tong Wanyan appeared.

She forced a smile as she stood up, her sapphire earrings accentuating her radiant beauty: "I can't compare to Sister Tong."

Tong Wanyan sat down surrounded by others, occupying a high position while the others sat below her, clearly demonstrating their status and hierarchy.

"That's absolutely true." Tong Wanyan accepted Fucha Yuxian's polite words without any modesty.

Fucha Yuxian looked as if she had swallowed a fly, her face turning ugly.

The Tang and Fan families were used to it and wisely refrained from interjecting.

They were nothing more than ants, not daring to challenge Tong Wanyan's sharp edge.

"I know what you're here for. Now that you're here, you can't leave empty-handed. The Empress Dowager has bestowed many pieces of jewelry and fabric upon me. Take some back with you so you can be more presentable when you go out in the future." Tong Wanyan adopted the demeanor of a principal wife, which was the most biting thing about her.

Everyone else is just a concubine, so why should you be able to sit there so comfortably?

Fucha Yuxian was indignant: "Sister Tong is so generous, but my dressing table is already full of jewelry, so I have to disappoint you."

"When Sister Fucha entered our Yuqing Palace, her red bridal procession stretched for miles, and dozens of dowry chests filled to the brim. She was certainly no less shabby than us." Li Jia-shi seemed to be praising Fucha Yuxian, but in reality, she was trying to stir up trouble for her.

Her casual remark caused the expressions on the other people's faces to change instantly.

Tong Wanyan pretended not to understand Li Jia's sarcasm about her entering Yuqing Palace in a small sedan chair. She looked at Li Jia with affection in her almond-shaped eyes, forcing her to lower her head and act like a quail.

"Then Consort Fucha will have to make do. Your courtyard is small, it's normal that you can't fit your things. With more new guests coming, your living quarters will probably be even more cramped. No one else will be allowed in my courtyard, but you all..."

Tong Wanyan made no attempt to hide her special status; she simply wanted to show it off to them.

She'd never have a moment's peace unless she made them lose face.

Fucha Yuxian's face turned pale and then red, her heart churning with anger. She opened her mouth, wanting to refute Tong Wanyan's words.

Qiao Cui was standing there blankly when her hand accidentally bumped into a plate of pastries on the side of the coffee table, shattering them all over the floor with a crash, instantly snapping everyone out of their daze.

Fucha Yuxian, who had almost fallen into demonic possession, secretly pinched herself.

She must be patient and patient; she cannot act impulsively.

With her eyes lowered, Fucha Yuxian gave a soft snort and chased Qiaocui out. After that, she said no more and maintained a haughty and noble demeanor.

Tong Wanyan then shifted her gaze to Li Jia and the others: "Do you all also feel that the dressing table is full?"
