Chapter 500 Dignity

Decent?

The Eighth Prince had been pondering what the Emperor's intentions were behind all his actions.

Finally, when he figured it out, he was covered in cold sweat.

Because of his affection for the emperor, the Eighth Prince immediately went to Emperor Kangxi to plead for leniency upon learning the news.

He pleaded with Emperor Kangxi, "Father, could you please grant the Prince An's mansion a final bit of dignity?"

Kangxi replied, "Now only the Duke of Zhenguo's mansion remains."

With just this one sentence, the intelligent Eighth Prince instantly connected all the details he had previously overlooked.

"I thought you were a clever child, so I bestowed Guo Luoluo clan upon you as my primary consort, to facilitate a smooth takeover of the Plain Blue Banner. I planned to pave the way for you, but you want to hand over what I prepared for you to someone else. Yinzhi, I am very disappointed in you."

“Father, your son is dull-witted,” said the Eighth Prince.

Kangxi no longer looked at him: "You are not stupid, you just don't trust me."

No child doesn't want their parents' approval and attention.

The Eighth Prince worked tirelessly, cultivating connections in the court and secretly vying with Yinreng. In essence, what he truly desired was not the throne.

Rather, it was the figure he most longed to see when he was sick as a child. He wanted his imperial father to see and acknowledge him, rather than always saying that the crown prince was the best, that his son was better than him by a thousand, and that he was content with just the crown prince.

He also shares the surname Aisin Gioro, and he is also his son. Must he be so far removed from the Crown Prince simply because his mother was born into a humble family?

Yinzhi was unwilling to accept this fate; he cherished every opportunity given to him by Emperor Kangxi.

His favoritism towards Lady Guoluo was perhaps partly due to the fact that she was the primary consort chosen for him by his father.

"Dignity? It's because we were given too much dignity that we've ended up like this. My lady, now there's no Prince An's Mansion, only the Duke of Zhenguo's Mansion." The Eighth Prince said cruelly, word by word, into the Eighth Princess's eyes.

The Eighth Prince's wife slumped into a chair in a disheveled state: "My lord, are you blaming me?"

“I’ll be staying at the Wang family’s residence tonight. You should calm down on your own,” said the Eighth Prince.

This was the first time in all the years since his marriage to the Eighth Prince's wife that he had taken the initiative to suggest going to another concubine's quarters.

The Eighth Prince's wife cried and then laughed. She sniffed and used a handkerchief to wipe the tears from her face.

Although her makeup was smudged, after tidying it up, she was left with a fragile yet alluring beauty.

She was the apple of her maternal grandfather's eye, and she would never easily give up her pride, not even in front of her husband.

The Eighth Prince's wife raised her standard smile, as if she were still that carefree, noble young girl who always held her head high.

"Please take care, my lord. I will not see you off any further," said the Eighth Prince's wife.

"I won't touch her." The more she did this, the more distressed the Eighth Prince felt.

He was impulsive in what he said just now. This is not her fault, so how could he involve her?

"How about I stay with you tonight?" the Eighth Prince said, offering himself an out.

“No need. I am not feeling well, so let Wang Shi serve you.” The Eighth Prince’s wife raised an eyebrow, and her personal maid immediately came out.

"Your Highness, please." The maid said respectfully.

"Then you should rest well. If you feel unwell anywhere, send someone to fetch a doctor immediately." The Eighth Prince added awkwardly, "I'll be resting in the front yard tonight, don't worry."

The Eighth Prince's wife smiled, and she looked beautiful, like a rose blooming after a storm. She instantly captivated the Eighth Prince's heart, leaving him unable to sleep all night.
