Chapter 519 Why Not Force a Resignation?

After decades of marriage, how could Yinreng not understand Tong Wanyan's unspoken meaning?

He looked at him helplessly, his eyes filled with an intense, unyielding affection.

Even though she was used to seeing this person, Tong Wanyan still couldn't help but blush and her heart race when he looked at her with deep affection, his eyes unblinking.

"Anyway, my brothers are protecting me, and that's why they're protecting you too. Don't overthink it," Tong Wanyan pouted and huffed.

She lay on her side, a strand of hair falling across her face, itchy but too lazy to brush it away.

Yinreng watched as she made faces for a long time, but her hair remained completely still.

He sighed, fixed her hair, and restored her to her neat and tidy appearance.

"I'm actually glad I raised you to be a child at heart. It's good that you haven't grown up yet," Yinreng said smugly.

Tong Wanyan rested her head on his arm, her eyelids drooping, and she said drowsily, "Does Master mean that I only grow older, but not smarter?"

"I didn't say that. I was praising your innocence and kindness, which I like very much," Yinreng hurriedly replied.

Tong Wanyan pouted. She was already a mother of four; to be naive and innocent was just plain stupid.

After spending the entire afternoon coaxing and watching over Yinreng, Tong Wanyan was indeed exhausted.

Yinreng waited anxiously for her retort, but after a long while, all he got was a long, drawn-out breath.

Tong Wanyan got up after sleeping for a short while. After washing up, the two of them were full of energy, quite different from before.

Shi Xiuzhu arrived just as they were having dinner: "Last time, the Crown Prince disturbed my sister and me for lunch. Is it alright if I come and freeload for dinner today?"

"If I tell you to leave, do you think you'll obey?" Yinreng said.

Shi Xiuzhu ignored him completely and sat down next to Tong Wanyan. If it weren't for his status, he would have brought his own bowl and chopsticks, which was even more infuriating.

"The Crown Prince is in a bad mood today," Shi Xiuzhu asked after taking a bite of a bamboo shoot.

Yinreng, facing his cold face, suddenly smiled as brightly as spring flowers in full bloom.

"I am in a very good mood. With my beloved wife by my side and my children around me, life couldn't be happier," Yinreng boasted.

“Aside from his own father being the only one who does good things, he is truly excellent in every way.” Shi Xiuzhu picked up another piece of tofu, which was smooth and tender. Half of the world’s top chefs had gone to Yuqing Palace.

Yinreng was so angry that his liver ached. He looked at Tong Wanyan with a wronged expression.

Tong Wanyan immediately stood up for her husband: "Coming to my courtyard to freeload and even bullying my husband, this is not the behavior of a gentleman!"

"I am just a woman now," Shi Xiuzhu said matter-of-factly.

Tong Wanyan glared at him, and he couldn't withstand her imposing aura, so he backed down.

"I had hoped to rely on him for the best years of my life. But who knew he would be so useless? I should have known this would happen." Shi Xiuzhu was also aggrieved and heartbroken.

He diligently entertained the noblewomen, fulfilling his duties as the Crown Princess during the day and offering advice to Yinreng at night. He wished he could split himself into two, yet he still had to put up with Yinreng's wicked temper.

What was the purpose? It was all so that one day the prince would become the emperor, and he could fake his death and escape on the eve of his coronation. Then, Xiao Yan would smoothly assume the position of empress, while he could roam freely and unfettered.

Seeing that everything was proceeding according to plan and the day of leaving the palace was getting closer and closer, this unexpected turn of events almost made Shi Xiuzhu vomit blood in anger.

"Why don't we force you to abdicate? You're over thirty, you're old enough to be a mature emperor!" Shi Xiuzhu held chopsticks in his hand, striking a pose that suggested he was wielding a sword with a cold, sharp edge.
