Yinzhen envied Hongyan, a little baby still spitting out milk foam, but in reality, he was living a carefree life.
Although Emperor Kangxi did not allow him to become an imperial merchant, there was still room for maneuver.
After Yinzhen leaves the palace and establishes his own residence, he can recruit a few retainers and let them manage the business.
Yinzhen understood the reasoning; he was just being affectionate and venting his frustrations to his brother.
"I could hear them talking about good fortune from afar. Who isn't lucky to live in the Forbidden City? Ninth Brother is here. Do you want some freshly steamed chestnut flour cake with osmanthus sugar?" Tong Wanyan had instructed the small kitchen well in advance when she heard that Yinzhen had arrived.
Yinzhen looked at Tong Wanyan with the same emotion he felt when he saw his second parents, and was deeply moved.
"Everyone knows that Second Sister-in-law is the best to me. Only Second Sister-in-law remembers that I love sweets, and every time I come, she tells the kitchen to make some sweet pastries." Yin Tang's words were affectionate, but as an adult prince, he still maintained a distance in his standing position.
Tong Wanyan smiled gently, not taking credit for herself: "It was just something I mentioned casually. Everyone knows that Ninth Brother has a sweet tooth. Why don't others give him desserts? Does Ninth Brother not know the reason himself?"
“I know, I know. I understand the reasoning, but I’m just greedy for this. I remember how much my sister-in-law cares for me. I promise I’ll give her another big gift for her next birthday,” Yin Tang said.
Yinreng was displeased to see him talking endlessly, chatting with his wife while still standing.
A continuous stream of cold air emanated from his side, instantly jolting Yinzhen awake.
"Second Sister-in-law, the weather is so nice today, why don't you and Second Brother go out of the palace for a stroll?" Yin Tang said.
Tong Wanyan looked at Yinreng with surprise: "Your Highness can take me out of the palace to play again?"
The way she happily clung to Yinreng's arm made Yinreng feel very pleased.
If he hadn't been holding Xiao Hongyan in his arms, he would have immediately pulled him into his embrace.
Yinzhen felt a strange sense of abandonment, as if he had been used and then thrown away: "Second Sister-in-law, it was clearly me who said those words, so why did you thank Second Brother instead?"
Tong Wanyan leaned her head slightly against Yinreng's shoulder, her eyes full of love: "Do you dare to take me out of the palace? It must be because my master is thinking of me and has promised you benefits that you asked."
Yinzhen quietly found a seat and sat down, keeping a distance from Tong Wanyan and Yinreng.
He suddenly remembered how silly he and his tenth brother had been when they were newlyweds last year, showing off their affection to the Crown Prince's second brother. Even with all their abilities, a lifetime of love couldn't compare to that of these two.
"You two should hurry up and choose some clothes to change into. It's getting late, and if we delay any longer, we'll have to head back after only a short time outside the palace," Yin Tang reminded him.
Tong Wanyan pulled Yinreng along happily as they went to find clothes to change into.
Yinzhen took Hongyan, who was fast asleep in his swaddling clothes, and waited for his snacks to be served.
Neither of them interferes with the other, and upon closer examination, it's quite good.
After leaving the palace, the three of them headed straight for the largest restaurant in the capital. They sat in a private room they had booked year-round, on the second floor next to a window, where they could see vendors hawking their wares. It was lively and down-to-earth.
As always, Yinreng and Tong Wanyan wore clothes of the same color scheme when they went out. Tong Wanyan wore a white jade lotus hairpin in her hair, while Yinreng wore a jade pendant engraved with lotus patterns at his waist.
Their subtle interactions are evident everywhere; it's obvious they're a loving couple without even asking.
Yinzhen's teeth ached, and he propped his cheek on his hand. Only by holding the rice dumpling candy in his purse could he calm his turbulent emotions.
Oh well, he's just a cashier and errand boy today anyway, so I can't be jealous, I can't be jealous.
