Yinreng was dejected. He was extremely grateful that the Prince Zhi was not so smart.
Fortunately, Prince Zhi did not expect that his family had three sons, the kind who could bankrupt Yuqing Palace.
Otherwise, he's the one who started the trouble, but in the end, he'll probably be the one who gets angry.
"I still have some money. The maritime trade brings in a fortune every day. I can let you take gold ingots and go to the lake to splash around." Yinreng was being unreasonable.
Tong Wanyan was dumbfounded. This had gone from stringing pearls into a beaded curtain to throwing gold.
"That won't be necessary," Tong Wanyan murmured.
Yinreng said unhappily, "Anyway, I will not mistreat you. You don't need to worry about the betrothal gifts for Hongzhao and the others. If I can't even support my own wife and children, why should I be the crown prince?"
Although I didn't quite like what he said, I was still happy.
After Tong Wanyan coaxed him a few times, Yinreng was all smiles and forgot all about Prince Zhi.
After exchanging a few jokes, Tong Wanyan suddenly realized something was wrong.
"Master, haven't you taken Hongyan out to play for quite a few days?" Tong Wanyan asked.
Yinreng's relaxed shoulders stiffened instantly: "I've been quite busy lately. He's still too young to understand anything; all he does all day is eat, sleep, and watch the butterflies fly outside the window. When he's a bit older, I'll personally teach him to read and write."
Tong Wanyan poked his shoulder, and Yinreng pursed his lips, not daring to dodge.
He felt guilty.
He was the one who patted his chest and volunteered to raise Hongyan single-handedly. Now, he's the one who secretly abandoned his responsibilities and handed his son over to the wet nurses.
Yinreng avoided eye contact with Tong Wanyan.
Tong Wanyan didn't expose him. She smiled and sipped her tea without speaking first.
The silence was unbearable, and before long, Yinreng gave in.
"Or, shall I continue to take care of Hongyan starting tomorrow?" Yinreng cautiously probed.
Tong Wanyan rested her elbows on the table, propped her chin on her hand, and tilted her head to look at him: "Master, you won't be busy tomorrow?"
“It’s possible to do it when you have some free time,” Yinreng said.
"Look how nervous you are, Master. You really don't want to bring Hongyan?" Tong Wanyan couldn't help but laugh.
She leaned closer, her face almost colliding with Yinreng's.
Yinreng touched her forehead with his finger and leaned back slightly.
He felt quite embarrassed that his sweetheart had suddenly gotten so close. Especially when the tassels on her eyelashes and hairpins brushed against his face and ears, it felt like feathers landing on his heart.
“Hongyan’s cries are so loud and clear, they linger for three days. If I keep him by my side for half an hour, my head will feel like it’s going to explode for a whole day, and I won’t be able to recover at all. Lately, the Grand Master of the Imperial Household Department has been hesitant to speak whenever he sees me. He’s been subtly hinting that I should restrain myself,” Yinreng said.
He glanced at Tong Wanyan's expression and, seeing a slight change, quickly added, "However, when Heaven entrusts a great task to someone, it first tests their resolve. A true man has nothing to fear from rumors. With Hongyan here, I can temper my mind. In the future, even if I stand in the bustling city, I will remain as clear-headed as if I were in the mountains."
Tong Wanyan couldn't hold back her laughter, her lips twitching with embarrassment. Her youngest son was truly remarkable; he wasn't even a year old yet, but he had already managed to make his father tremble with fear.
"Master is talking nonsense again," Tong Wanyan said softly.
"How about we let Hongyan sleep with us tonight?" Yinreng thought for a moment, believing that husband and wife should share joys and sorrows.
He looked at Tong Wanyan expectantly, making no attempt to hide his mischievous intentions.
Tong Wanyan's temples throbbed, and she frantically shook her hands, her whole body expressing its resistance.
"No need, no need, forget it." Tong Wanyan resolutely refused three times, her attitude firm.
