Qingying slightly turned her head to avoid his touch.
Wei Dongchen's slightly cool lips brushed against her cheek.
"Donglang, I am already the Emperor's woman."
He paused for a moment, then turned his face away awkwardly, "I'm...I'm sorry..."
"Put me down first."
Wei Dongchen obediently put her down. The roof beam was very narrow, and she didn't dare to move at all because she didn't know any light-body skills. He held her waist and pressed her body against him.
He looked up at the hole in the roof and instructed, "I'll help you up first, and then I'll block the hole after you're seated. Be careful not to fall. Nothing is more important than your safety. If you are accidentally exposed, just blame it on me."
"How can this be... Ahhh..." Before Qingying could finish speaking, he lifted her up by the waist, and she instinctively cried out in surprise.
She clung tightly to Wei Dongchen's shoulders to prevent herself from falling, and only after her body was protruding from the hole did she free one hand to climb up.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through her palm. She gasped instinctively, her body stiffening for a moment.
"What's wrong?" Wei Dongchen asked with concern.
"N-nothing," she quickly said, trying to cover it up, and continued climbing.
Finally, she stepped on Wei Dongchen's shoulders and climbed out of the hole, sitting on the roof.
She looked down and saw Wei Dongchen below the cave entrance. Sunlight shone on his handsome face, which was beaming with smiles, and he was as dashing as ever.
“Second Girl,” Wei Dongchen said, “I don’t blame you at all. I know your situation. I just blame myself for being incompetent and for not protecting you.”
Qingying shook her head and said gently, "Donglang, you are a very, very good person, so good that sometimes I even feel that I am not good enough for you."
"No, that's not how it is..."
"Let me finish. Actually, I am willing to marry the Emperor. Don't blame Princess Yu. You know my personality. If it's not my own will, no matter how much others threaten or entice me, I will never agree, even if it costs me my life."
Wei Dongchen's pupils dilated slightly, a dense, spreading pain spreading through his heart. His voice trembled, "Is what you're saying true? You still can't let go of him, can you?"
"Donglang, I'm sorry." She lowered her eyelashes, not daring to look at him anymore.
Wei Dongchen clenched his fist tightly, then slowly relaxed it, leaving four deep finger marks on his palm.
He lowered his head, his voice hoarse: "Okay, I understand."
Just then, voices suddenly came from not far from the house.
Wei Dongchen instantly composed himself, gave her one last quick look, and said, "Just do what I said earlier."
"Mmm." Qingying nodded hurriedly.
He immediately leaped down from the roof beam, tidied up the tables and chairs, and then collapsed onto the table.
Qingying quickly and gently restored the tiles one by one, completely ignoring her hands which were covered in blood.
The voices outside drew closer; it was Liu Shushu leading a group of ministers as they hurried over.
"What are you doing here? Where is Consort Liu?"
Several palace maids knelt on the ground with their heads bowed, unsure how to respond. Yu Yue and Tong Xia also exchanged glances, unsure of the situation inside the room and hesitant to answer for fear of saying the wrong thing.
Seeing this, Liu Shushu pointed to a palace maid in green and asked, "You, answer me."
The palace maid knelt on the ground trembling, her voice shaking as she said, "Her Highness...she's resting inside..."
"It's been half an hour since she left her seat. It only takes half an incense stick's time to walk from Fanghua Palace to here. Has she been resting here for so long? There isn't even a bed or chair in here. Could she have fallen ill?"
"This servant doesn't know, Her Majesty won't let us in..."
Liu Shushu was followed by a group of ministers. At this moment, someone said, "The Imperial Concubine was sickly when she was still in her boudoir. Now it is the height of summer. She said she felt dizzy when she left the table. We don't know if she has fainted inside."
The palace maid in green immediately said, "We were waiting outside when we heard a loud noise coming from inside. We don't know what happened."
Liu Chengfeng then asked, "Did the Empress reply at that time?"
"Yes, Your Majesty said that she accidentally knocked something over."
How long has it been since she replied?
"About... the time it takes for an incense stick to burn."
Liu Shushu lifted her skirt and stepped forward to knock on the door, asking, "Sister, sister, are you in there?"
But no one answered.
Liu Chengfeng acted decisively, rushing forward and kicking open the door.
When they saw who was inside, all the ministers were stunned.
"So many people? What are they doing?" Wei Dongchen stretched, yawned, and stood up, his posture very lazy and casual.
Liu Chengfeng frowned, looked around the room, and said coldly, "May I ask, Your Highness, where is the Imperial Concubine?"
Wei Dongchen shrugged. "How should I know? I was just resting here, and you guys came while I was taking a nap. You even kicked open the door, which scared me so much that my heart was pounding and I almost lost my soul."
Meanwhile, Qingying finally restored the tiles and sat timidly on the roof, not daring to lean out to look at the movements under the eaves.
However, she overheard their entire conversation and was pretty much certain that the traitor was among them. Suddenly, she heard a door being kicked open, which startled her. She shrank back, her back unexpectedly bumping into something hard.
Her hair stood on end instantly, and she realized that she had been shrouded in shadow without her noticing. She turned around stiffly, and what came into view was a bright yellow robe embroidered with dragon patterns!
She swallowed hard, her gaze slowly rising...
The next second, she was covered in the mouth and lifted up.
When Qingying was thrown onto the bed, her mind was still in a daze. She stared blankly at the man standing by the bed, coldly staring at her, and swallowed again.
My mouth is suddenly so dry.
"Your Majesty... what are you doing on the roof?"
Wei Huaixu chuckled and said, "If my beloved concubine, who is so frail, can climb onto the roof, why can't I?"
"No...of course you can...I just don't know when Your Majesty will..." she suddenly stammered.
Wei Huaixu was losing his patience and interrupted, "When he was about to kiss you."
This is terrible!
Qingying closed her eyes resignedly. "How does Your Majesty intend to deal with me?"
"So you're just admitting it?"
"You've seen it all, I have nothing to deny."
Qingying clearly felt his approach, but she hunched her shoulders and remained motionless, not daring to open her eyes. She could easily imagine the storm brewing on his face.
However, the expected thing did not happen. She only felt the warmth of the touch on her palm. When she opened her eyes again, a man in a magnificent dragon robe was sitting next to her with his head down. He was holding a wet cloth and gently wiping the bloodstains on her palm. Then he slowly poured powdered medicine onto the thin wound on her palm.
"Don't be so reckless in the future."
