Extra 5: Stories from the Real World (1)

Yan Zhishu was just six years old when he first realized that he was an "illegitimate child who could not be seen in public."

That day, his mother carefully dressed him in new clothes, combed his hair meticulously, and took him into the Yan family villa, which was as magnificent as a castle.

Along the way, my mother repeatedly reminded me, "Shushu, Dad has an older sister at home. She's the apple of our eye. You must be good and get along well with her, okay?"

Little Yan Zhishu nodded as if he understood, but his palms were sweating with nervousness.

He vaguely understood that his identity was not glorious. Who would truly welcome an illegitimate child who suddenly broke in?

That "sister" whom he had never met would probably kick him out without hesitation, just like the character in a fairy tale who hated her stepsiblings.

The meeting was just as he expected, or even worse.

In the luxurious and spacious living room, the girl who was called his "sister" slowly walked down the spiral staircase.

She was wearing a fine dress and had a very beautiful appearance, like the most expensive and fragile porcelain doll in the window. However, her eyes were as cold as winter ice, with a sense of alienation and scrutiny that was inconsistent with her age.

She just glanced at him lightly, her eyes were light and without any emotion, but it made Yan Zhishu instantly feel like a rejected and unqualified item with nowhere to hide.

She said nothing, turned around and went upstairs, leaving behind only an indifferent back.

The dinner was tasteless and the atmosphere was so awkward that it could have frozen into ice.

After dinner, his mother secretly pushed him and whispered, "Go upstairs and play with your sister for a while. Talk to her more."

Yan Zhishu walked up the spiral staircase nervously, stood in front of the closed door, and mustered up the courage to knock.

The door opened, Yan Chu looked at him, and frowned almost inaudibly: "What's the matter?"

Yan Zhishu tugged at the corner of his clothes, his voice as thin as a mosquito: "Sister...can we play together?"

Yan Chu looked at him silently for a moment, with no expression on her face. Her tone was calm but firm: "Don't call me sister, I don't have a brother."

These words were like a bucket of cold water, extinguishing the last shred of hope in his heart.

He was already afraid of this cold sister, and now he didn't dare to say another word. He ran downstairs in shame.

Later, Yan Zhishu was sent to the international school where Yan Chu was. He was in the elementary school department and Yan Chu was in the high school department.

They were picked up and dropped off by the same driver every day, but Yan Chu never looked at him or spoke to him, as if he were air.

Until one day after school, Yan Zhishu was blocked by a few thugs in a quiet alley near the school.

Several high school students passed by and saw him, but they pretended not to see him and walked past him.

Yan Zhishu was very scared.

At this moment, he saw Yan Chu walking past the alley entrance.

Yan Zhishu's eyes suddenly widened, and he subconsciously called out, "Sister!"

However, Yan Chu also ignored him and walked away

The hooligans sneered, "Sister? Even if you call for grandpa today, no one will come to save you!"

Yan Zhishu didn't have much cash on him, and the few hundred dollars he had were all brutally looted, but those thugs still didn't let him go.

"Bring ten thousand dollars tomorrow."

"I... I don't have that much money..." Yan Zhishu's voice trembled with fear.

"You're the young master who's picked up and dropped off in a luxury car every day, and you're telling me you have no money?" The leading thug grabbed him by the collar, his face stern. "If you don't bring any money, I'll make sure you're in big trouble!"

At this moment, a cold voice sounded from the alley entrance:

"Who do you want to make the most of this?"

Yan Zhishu suddenly looked up and saw Yan Chu standing there, against the light, with a slender figure but an unquestionable aura.

Those thugs obviously didn't take her seriously, and their words were full of contempt and teasing.

"Hey? Little sister, you want to do something brave?" As they said that, they narrowed their eyes and looked Yan Chu up and down. "You are so beautiful, I won't make it difficult for you. How about being my girlfriend?"

Yan Chu didn't even look at them, but just gestured behind him.

Then, two policemen came in. The gangsters' faces suddenly changed and they panicked. They subconsciously tried to run away, but were easily restrained by the policemen.

The matter was resolved surprisingly quickly. Yan Chu still didn't even look at Yan Zhishu and turned away.

Yan Zhishu was stunned for a second, then quickly ran after her, crying out in a sobbing voice, "Sister..."

Yan Chu stopped and glanced at him.

She frowned, her eyes falling on his messy tear marks and wrinkled school uniform. Her tone was still cold, even with a hint of subtle disdain:

"Don't call me sister. You can't even handle such a small matter. You just cry. I don't have such a timid brother."

After saying that, she left without looking back.

Yan Zhishu stared at her back in a daze and wiped his tears hard. For the first time, he did not feel wronged. Instead, an indescribable emotion grew in his heart.

He trotted and silently followed her footsteps.

Since then, Yan Zhishu began to work hard in secret, and he vowed to become strong and powerful.

He showed amazing talent in studying, skipping grades repeatedly, absorbing knowledge desperately, and frantically narrowing the huge gap between him and his dazzling sister.

He craves recognition, especially from his sister.

When Yan Zhishu was thirteen years old, Yan Xingshi rarely talked to him and asked him casually about his views on some business investments.

Yan Zhishu was flattered and thought he had finally gotten his father's attention. He expressed his views seriously and cautiously.

After listening to this, Yan Xingshi showed undisguised admiration in his eyes and patted him on the shoulder: "You are an excellent child, with clear thinking and great foresight. I can rest assured that I can leave the company to you in the future."

Yan Zhishu was stunned.

Hand over the company to him? What about my sister?

Almost subconsciously, without any consideration, he blurted out: "Actually, I'm not interested in running an existing business. I'd rather start my own business and try a different field."

Yan Xingshi looked at him thoughtfully and said nothing more.

After that, Yan Chu began to gradually take over the business of Yan Group.

When his mother found out, she was very disappointed with him and asked him why he gave up everything that was within his reach.

Yan Zhishu remained silent.

Because he never thought of taking away what belonged to his sister.

The strange thing was that after that, although Yan Chu still didn't pay much attention to him, he would occasionally throw him some business management books and say in a flat tone: "You can read it when you have nothing to do."

Yan Zhishu read every book carefully, as if it were a silent imperial edict.

Later, with his excellent academic performance, he went to study at a top overseas business school.

However, the following year, he suddenly received bad news from home.

Yan Chu was in a serious car accident, suffered brain damage, and became a vegetable. He may never wake up.

This news came like a bolt from the blue.

Yan Zhishu's mind went blank. After he came to his senses, he went through the formalities to return home as quickly as possible.

The hospital's VIP ward was filled with the smell of disinfectant.

Looking at my sister lying lifeless on the pale hospital bed, with various life-sustaining tubes connected to her body, it was so quiet that it was terrifying.

Yan Zhishu slowly clenched his fists, and unprecedented anger surged in his heart.

He absolutely refused to believe that this was an accident.
