Chapter 13 explains "Right, honey?"

Chapter 13 explains "Right, honey?"

Wen Hong seemed to have heard something unbelievable and took another step forward.

He was tall and imposing; when he stood in front of her, he blocked most of the sunlight and cast her into his shadow.

He looked down at Qiao Yunzheng with great interest: "Qiao Yunzheng, I didn't hear you clearly, what did you just say?"

But his expression didn't suggest he hadn't heard clearly.

However, to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings, Qiao Yunzheng felt it was better to be open about it. So, after a little consideration, she said, "Shen Qingli seems to be angry."

Wen Hong glanced in the direction of the street corner, following her words: "Yes, I saw it."

Qiao Yunzheng: "We were fine when we were shopping, but after I told her I wanted to marry you, her face turned very ugly..."

As she spoke, a hint of guilt crept into Qiao Yunzheng's complex emotions. She didn't want her sudden intrusion to affect another girl's life.

Wen Hong nodded in agreement, his expression grave: "Is that so?"

Qiao Yunzheng paused for a moment, then tentatively asked, "So, shouldn't I have told her about our marriage? Was I being nosy?"

Wen Hong endured the discomfort, turned her head slightly and coughed lightly, then deliberately composed herself and asked, "Qiao Yunzheng, what exactly are you trying to say by rambling on about all this nonsense?"

Out of empathy for women, Qiao Yunzheng gritted her teeth and said directly, "Although I agreed to marry you temporarily, I don't want to be a third party who interferes in other people's relationships."

Qiao Yunzheng remained silent; she had indeed thought so.

He reached out and tapped her on the head lightly: "You really think highly of me!"

Wen Hong suddenly bent down, bringing their eyes level.

With the 1.9-meter-tall man no longer blocking the sunlight, it poured down instantly.

Qiao Yunzheng seemed to see the dazzling particles of light flashing on the top of his hair and dancing in his eyes.

“You can rest assured about that,” Wen Hong’s eyes crinkled into a smile, “and you will be the only Mrs. Wen. I still have that much sense of contractual obligation. I couldn’t come because there was an important meeting at the institute, so I had to ask that pear to come and keep you company, understand?”

So, it turns out she misunderstood?

Qiao Yunzheng nodded silently, but she was still worried about Shen Qingli: "Then why don't we go and see her? She doesn't seem to be in a good mood."

Wen Hong gestured towards the intersection ahead with his lip: "Didn't someone follow them?"

Qiao Yunzheng's mouth dropped open in surprise: "You mean, Attorney Song?"

Wen Hong gave her an affirmative look: "Everyone sweeps the snow from their own doorstep. I only care about my own people. Other people's business is for others to worry about." As she spoke, she casually ruffled Qiao Yunzheng's hair. "Let's go home."

Qiao Yunzheng was still somewhat stunned when Wen Hong opened the car door and looked at her.

Whether it was because of the phrase "my person" or the burning heat of his palm, she was momentarily stunned.

Unlike Qiao Yunzheng, who had some complicated feelings, Wen Hong drove very slowly along the way, and even hummed a little tune.

When Song Nanchen called, Wen Hong answered directly by pressing the speakerphone button on the central control screen.

"Speak quickly if you have something to say." He still spoke in a very arrogant tone.

Song Nanchen clicked his tongue on the other end: "You've really mastered the art of crossing the river and then destroying the bridge, you wicked capitalist."

Wen Hong: "It's alright! So-so..."

Song Nanchen: "I suffered an undeserved misfortune today because of you, so shouldn't this be considered a work-related injury?"

Wen Hong chuckled and scolded, "Spit it out already, don't waste time."

Song Nanchen sensed something and teased him, "What? Can't you talk?"

Wen Hong's expression changed but her heart remained calm: "Someone like you who doesn't have a wife can't understand, kid. Keep trying!"

They chatted idly about all sorts of things, while Qiao Yunzheng listened quietly. Suddenly, she heard the word "wife" and was a little taken aback. Then she realized that the wife he was referring to was herself, and her ears started to burn.

After exchanging pleasantries, Song Nanchen lowered his tone and said, "Let's meet tomorrow and have a meal together."

“Okay,” Wen Hong glanced at Qiao Yunzheng, and seeing that she didn’t react, he agreed, “You decide on the location.”

Song Nanchen already had a plan: "How about the restaurant downstairs from Qingli Building? Ask your sister-in-law what she likes to eat, Western or Chinese food?"

Song Nanchen really came up with a suggestion, but Wen Hong was unhappy again: "What? You're reluctant to let your white moonlight walk a few more steps, but I'm willing to let my wife go all the way there?"

Song Nanchen seemed unaware that Qiao Yunzheng was listening nearby, and immediately retorted, "Lili is a little inconvenienced. Wen Hong, don't play dumb with me. If you're so capable, go to your sister-in-law and properly call her 'wife.' Then I'll respect you as a man. Have you forgotten what you did before..."

Wen Hong glanced quickly at the passenger seat, cleared her throat, and interrupted Song Nanchen's rant: "Alright, I'm busy. Send me the address, bye."

After the call ended, there was a deathly silence.

Qiao Yunzheng's mind was filled with countless "wife" images, making her dizzy. She tensed up, sitting upright like a pine tree, afraid that the person next to her would actually call her that, just as Song Nanchen had said.

He is definitely the kind of person who would do something like that.

It was Wen Hong who broke the silence first.

Fortunately, he said something quite ordinary: "What would you like to eat if I come over tomorrow?"

This topic gave Qiao Yunzheng a perfectly natural reason to be quiet. She took out her phone, opened the map, entered Shen Qingli's address, and began searching for nearby restaurants.

In the end, we decided on a grilled fish restaurant with a pretty good reputation.

When she went out, Qiao Yunzheng wore a beige knitted dress with a black jacket over it. When Wen Hong came out, he was also wearing a beige casual shirt.

She stared at him for a few seconds, a strange feeling welling up inside her, a desire to say something.

Wen Hong was already standing casually at the door, asking her, "Can we set off now?" He seemed oblivious to the coincidence and didn't seem to care about it.

Qiao Yunzheng moved her lips, but ultimately said nothing.

When they arrived at the grilled fish restaurant, Song Nanchen and Shen Qingli had not yet arrived.

Wen Hong entered the private room, led Qiao Yunzheng to a seat inside, and sat down beside her, looking down at her.

Qiao Yunzheng felt uncomfortable under his gaze and asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Wen Hong raised an eyebrow slightly and glanced at her coat: "Aren't you hot?"

When she came in, Qiao Yunzheng only hung her bag on the coat rack, and because of a little secret, she deliberately didn't take off her black jacket.

Qiao Yunzheng pursed her lips and, mimicking him, opened her eyes wide and made up a story: "I'm cold."

"Really?" Wen Hong moved his stool closer to her, placing one hand on the back of her chair. "You should be careful then, it wouldn't be good if you got cold."

At this moment, even if Qiao Yunzheng was slow to realize, she understood that this guy was doing it on purpose.

As the two were talking, the door to the private room was pushed open.

Qiao Yunzheng then understood what Song Nanchen meant by "inconvenience" yesterday.

Yesterday, Shen Qingli was perfectly fine, but today she was sitting in a wheelchair with her feet wrapped in thick bandages, being pushed in by Song Nanchen.

Wen Hong looked up and said irritably, "I'm starving! Why did it take you so long?"

Qiao Yunzheng was exasperated and automatically took on the role of easing the tension: "Lili, what's wrong with you?"

After yesterday's misunderstanding, Shen Qingli was a little embarrassed, so Song Nanchen explained for her, "It's nothing, just a minor injury."

Song Nanchen pushed Shen Qingli to a slightly more spacious area in the private room.

Then, before Shen Qingli could make a move, he bent down and easily picked her up by the waist, carefully placing her on the sofa next to him.

Seeing this, Wen Hong clicked his tongue repeatedly: "Did you call me all this way? Did the dog butcher come?"

After everyone took their seats, they talked about the misunderstanding from yesterday, and they all didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Despite Qiao Yunzheng's wishful thinking that her performance yesterday was normal and that there were no major mistakes, she believed that she had done well.

Wen Hong was talking to Song Nanchen, but her hands didn't stop moving.

He asked the waiter for hot water, poured himself a cup, and skillfully pushed it in front of Qiao Yunzheng.

Facing Song Nanchen's teasing gaze, he laughed frankly and said, "There's nothing I can do. My daughter is prone to allergies, so I have to be extra careful about what she eats and drinks."

Song Nanchen laughed so hard he bent over: "Who asked you?"

Because of Wen Hong's words, everyone's attention was focused on Qiao Yunzheng's face. She was a little annoyed and secretly stepped on Wen Hong's foot.

Wen Hong acted as if nothing had happened.

“Oh, right,” Wen Hong drawled, “let me formally introduce you, this is Qiao Yunzheng, my wife.”

Wen Hong curled her lips into a smile, as if she were showing off something extraordinary: "It has absolutely nothing to do with that dog Song Nanchen. They met at the law firm before, and in total, it's been less than three times!"

Hearing that title again today, Qiao Yunzheng was much calmer than yesterday.

Holding her water glass, she smiled apologetically at Shen Qingli: "Lili, I'm so sorry. I didn't explain things clearly yesterday, which caused you to misunderstand Lawyer Song."

Shen Qingli blushed and said softly, "You don't need to apologize to me specifically. It's my own fault. I didn't understand the situation..."

Having said that, this topic should be brought to a clean and decisive end.

To everyone's surprise, Wen Hong seemed to have a sudden urge to indulge in this dramatic misunderstanding, and continued, "To avoid unnecessary trouble later, it's better to clarify things. My daughter and I have a very close relationship..."

As if to prove his words were credible, he lowered his hand from the back of Qiao Yunzheng's chair and gently placed it on her shoulder, pulling her close. "My daughter would never be interested in anyone but me," he said, turning his head to look into her eyes, a smile playing on his lips. "Right, wife?"

A note from the author:

I was incredibly busy before the holiday, getting home very late every day, and updating even later. [crying emoji]
