Chapter 49 Confession: "I'm sorry, I've let you down because of your sincerity..."

Since their reunion, it's been like there's a frosted glass between them; they're on opposite ends, very close yet unable to see each other clearly.

They never sat down together to sincerely and openly confront each other's feelings.

Qiao Yunzheng used to not understand the misunderstandings between lovers in movies and TV dramas. They could have just talked it out properly, or even just asked one more question or said one more thing, and explained it clearly, thus avoiding many unnecessary entanglements. So why was neither of them willing to speak up?

Only when she herself was truly immersed in it did she gain genuine empathy.

It's probably due to one's state of mind and emotions; people always unconsciously become apostles of their emotions. This is what is meant by being blinded by one's own involvement.

For example, right now, when Wen Hong asks her, "What's making you feel uncomfortable?" what comes before the urge to confide is a strange anger and sadness.

She felt guilty because of his anxiety and regretted her past distrust of him, but at the same time, she also felt a strange anger at his calm and restraint.

But he was completely oblivious and still asked her in a cautious tone what was wrong.

She turned her head away, choosing to process this inexplicable anger before speaking.

The car drove silently back to the parking lot of the residence.

The city lights inside the car suddenly stopped, replaced by the quiet, dim light of the parking lot.

Wen Hong parked the car in the parking space and turned off the engine.

He didn't move, but turned his head and silently watched her.

That indescribable anger surged through Qiao Yunzheng's heart, and it couldn't be quelled even slightly for a long time.

Her chest heaved a few times, then she suddenly unbuckled her seatbelt, turned around, and got out of the car.

Wen Hong paused for a few seconds because of her sudden action, then pursed her lips, slowly unbuckled her seatbelt, and opened the car door.

Qiao Yunzheng, fuming, quickly walked around the front of the car and reached out to press down on the driver's side door that had just been opened.

Wen Hong looked up, and although she didn't understand her intention, she still pulled back the leg she had just stretched out and asked, "What's wrong?"

She didn't say anything, but held onto the half-open car door, put her right foot on the door sill, and straddled it with her left leg to sit down.

With a loud bang, she slammed the car door shut.

After the loud noise, all external sounds were shut out.

Wen Hong looked at Qiao Yunzheng, who had suddenly sat down, in surprise, and didn't react for a moment: "A-Zheng?"

Qiao Yunzheng secretly rejoiced that she had dressed casually when she went out today, and the wide skirt did not restrict her high-difficulty movements at this moment.

In the cramped space between the steering wheel and Wen Hong, she remained in a half-sitting position, her eyes lowered, staring at him.

She bit her lip, made up her mind, wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, leaned down, and kissed him fiercely.

Driven by a desire to vent, her kisses were haphazard and retaliatory, a mere act of torment. She even took him into her mouth and gave him a light bite.

The short gasp mixed with a soft groan had just escaped when she choked it back even more fiercely.

Her long, flowing hair cascaded down as she leaned forward, brushing against their cheeks as they were close together.

Qiao Yunzheng's original intention was to punish the man who was causing her trouble, but unfortunately she had no experience and ended up turning red in the face from holding her breath. She had no choice but to retreat in a huff, panting heavily.

Wen Hong remained looking up at her: "What happened?"

Once her breathing gradually calmed down, Qiao Yunzheng collapsed, feeling utterly exhausted.

Wen Hong reached out at the opportune moment and placed his palm between her back and the steering wheel.

She rested her chin on his shoulder and said in a muffled voice, "Wen Hong, call me."

Wen Hong was puzzled, but still obediently said, "A-Zheng..."

This was clearly not the answer Qiao Yunzheng wanted to hear. Dissatisfied, she turned her head and bit his neck.

He trembled slightly at her actions.

"No!" she said, her voice slightly aggrieved. "We're already married."

The car was turned off, enclosing the two in a dark and quiet world.

In a corner where no one could see him, his Adam's apple bobbed a few times, and he let out a soft "hmm".

Unable to get an answer, Qiao Yunzheng sighed in resignation.

She cupped his face in her hands, leaned in, and rubbed her nose against his.

Her cheeks flushed slightly at his next words: "You should call me wife, husband."

Wen Hong froze, as if suddenly captivated by those words, his dark eyes fixed intently on her.

“Actually, I wanted to call you that this morning, but you got up too early and didn’t give me a chance,” she said, looking directly into his eyes without flinching. “This morning, I texted you wanting to call you that too, but I felt too embarrassed. I kept deleting and rewriting, but I couldn’t bring myself to say it…”

She paused, then smiled lightly, "Look, this is how I am now, pretty cowardly, right? It's probably because without you, I know no one is standing behind me anymore, no one is there to protect me. Over time, I've become timid. But I think life is so long, I'll have to get used to it eventually."

Upon hearing her words, Wen Hongxu's fingers, which were holding her, trembled.

“And another thing is, I should have apologized to you a long time ago,” Qiao Yunzheng sniffed. “Five years ago, I misunderstood that you were with me for the sake of your family’s interests and that you were toying with my feelings. I didn’t even ask you and just sentenced you to death in my heart. Five years later, I was stupid enough to stab you in the same heart again. I didn’t ask your opinion and pushed you away unilaterally. Even though I… but I hurt you again, that’s a fact.”

She doesn't like Wen Hong now, not at all.

She was the one who transformed that once passionate and unruly boy into who he is today.

Hot tears streamed down her face silently, and her throat tightened as she said, "I'm sorry, I've let down your sincere love."

She thought she was calm and composed, but in reality, she was blinded by resentment. She weighed the pros and cons repeatedly and made what she thought was the most correct decision.

Little did she know that, unseen by her, the man who always spoke the most resolute words treated her with the greatest tolerance and the deepest love, sparing no expense and disregarding personal gain or loss.

She leaned down slightly, her fingers tracing down his collarbone to unbutton his shirt.

My fingertips slowly moved down along the skin's texture, settling on the left side where my heart was.

Her lips were wet, indistinguishable between tears and something else. She leaned down and kissed her, asking, "Does it... hurt a lot?"

Wen Hong swallowed a few breaths, but could no longer speak.

He suddenly tightened his arms around her, letting his chest truly feel her body temperature.

He was trembling slightly. He kissed her forehead, her trembling eyelashes, the tip of her delicate nose, and asked her about her moist lips...

The trembling syllables broke in the burning kiss, carrying suppressed pain: "Ah Zheng... if you lied to me... if..."

Long afterward, Qiao Yunzheng was still grateful—grateful that there was no one else in the parking lot that day, grateful that the private elevator could go directly to their floor, even grateful for her impulsive decision to go find him that day, and even more grateful for the courage she had shown that day…

Qiao Yunzheng barely remembers how she got home.

All that he could see, thought, and imagined was him.

They were not strangers. Five years ago, they had done countless intimate things together, and the mountains, rivers, flowers, and plants of Luyao Town had witnessed their close relationship.

But today, Qiao Yunzheng felt that every inch of her skin touched by that breath, which carried a cool, woody fragrance, trembled uncontrollably.

He pinned her against the door and kissed her gently, his every breath incredibly tender.

He was like a raging fire, forcing her into a corner with nowhere to retreat, until she was trapped in a corner of the bedroom, her eyes brimming with tears.

He seemed unable to distinguish between dream and reality, unsure whether it was a delusional dream or the dawn of a long-awaited moment. He held her, gently wiping away her tears with his lips, coaxing her to call his name.

The moonlight that shone through the window cracks blended into his gentle eyes. Qiao Yunzheng could only see the light swaying gently, causing the soft waves in her heart to ripple in circles.

After an unknown amount of time, Qiao Yunzheng, who was completely exhausted, was held in his arms.

His fingers ran through her hair, gently smoothing out her slightly messy strands.

"Wen Hong," she called out, remembering what had happened during the day.

His fingers, which were tucked in her hair, paused abruptly. A few seconds later, he lowered his head and kissed her again, teasingly saying, "Don't tell me you're planning to get up and leave right after sleeping with me."

She was stung by his use of the word "again".

Suddenly, I remembered that time at a party with his colleagues, he mentioned, under the guise of a game, that he had been used as a casual sex partner by the girl he liked. At the time, she was angry all night because of his nonsensical remark.

Now that we know everything from the past, upon further reflection, from Wen Hong's perspective, there is indeed nothing wrong with saying that.

When they were together, they were young and passionate, without so many constraints of reality. They spoke their love freely, acted on their desires without restraint, and naively believed that those days would last forever. But suddenly one day, she vanished from his world, leaving him only with the words, "We're over."

He's just a heartless john.

Qiao Yunzheng's eyes welled up with tears uncontrollably. She reached out and hooked her arm around his neck, pulling him closer to her: "So what do you want?"

He obediently moved closer, his nose brushing against hers, and the corners of his lips curved into a smile: "This time, if you still don't intend to take responsibility, I'll just stay here and not leave."

As he spoke, his breath, which had just cooled down, became hot again without his noticing.

Qiao Yunzheng was still a little weak and shrank back a bit: "I have something to say."

Wen Hong let her off easily, taking a deep breath: "What?"

“I have some things to do next,” she observed his expression, “which may be a little unfriendly to the Wen family, so I need to let you know in advance.”

“Oh,” Wen Hong said calmly, raising an eyebrow with the confident and domineering air she was familiar with, “Are you sure?”

Qiao Yunzheng thought for a moment: "Probably! What? Are you trying to persuade me?"

Wen Hong nodded.

She was startled and was about to get up when he pressed her down reassuringly: "I wanted to advise you not to bear difficulties alone. You still have me."

Her feigned anger lasted only a few seconds before crumbling. She glared at him: "Aren't you worried I'll get ulterior motives and try to trip up your Wen family?"

Wen Hong scoffed, wanting to tap her forehead, but then hesitated, and instead ruffled her soft, stray hairs: "I wish you were a little more wicked, so you wouldn't be bullied like that."

He frowned as he recalled the years he had been away.

He asked, "Are you going back to Kunming? Do you want me to come with you?"

Because she understood him, Qiao Yunzheng didn't want him to get involved in such a predicament and be criticized by uninformed bystanders, so she shook her head and said, "No need, I can do it. You just do your thing."

“Hmm,” Wen Hong nodded, “That works too. I’ll be going on a business trip in the next few days.”

She was somewhat surprised because she had never heard him mention any business trips before.

Wen Hong put his arm around her shoulder and said gently, "You just need to do it, the rest..."

He didn't finish his sentence.

This time, he will do everything in his power to protect the girl who was all alone and helpless two years ago.
