Chapter 140: It's with me; you can ask for more.

Chapter 140: It's with me; you can ask for more.

Lin Zaoyi only had lunch at Xiyuan before her mother kicked her out, saying that her mother was going on a date with Uncle Tan and that Lin Zaoyi was in the way.

As I was changing my shoes in the entryway, my mother came over and said, "I called your aunt and asked her to send your household registration book over."

She paused, "Why send the household registration booklet?"

The mother calmly replied, "Of course, we get a marriage certificate."

"...Me?"

"Or what about me?"

She was speechless for a few seconds. "Isn't this too hasty?"

Mingxian feigned anger, "You're already living together, and you're not even going to get a marriage certificate? Are you just playing around?"

Lin Zaoyi's cheeks flushed slightly. "But this is too fast. I'm only 22."

"You've reached the legal age."

Suddenly, her face hardened. "Lin Zaoyi, there's no room for negotiation on this!"

"...You're being too domineering. You haven't even asked the other party involved yet."

As she spoke, Lin Zaoyi nudged someone's arm, but Tan Zhaojing replied, "I'll listen to Aunt Ming."

"..."

It's not about holding someone back.

Tan Zhaojing, seemingly oblivious to her resentful gaze, took her hand and led her outside.

Once outside the main room, she shook her wrist. "Brother Zhaojing, don't listen to my mother. She's just worrying unnecessarily."

Tan Zhaojing replied, "I've been thinking about marrying you for a long time."

He kneaded her knuckles, "Can't you give me a chance to spend the rest of my life with you?"

There was a flutter in my heart, but not much.

The main problem was that it happened so suddenly that she was caught off guard.

"Why are you in such a hurry?"

"It's a bit rushed, there hasn't even been a proposal yet." He chuckled softly as he said this, but his voice sounded somewhat deep.

She couldn't help but turn her head, and he looked over as well, raising an eyebrow slightly. "Hmm?"

After a brief eye contact, Lin Zaoyi shook her head. This was the umpteenth time she had been overthinking things today. As for getting the certificate, she would wait until Monday.

On Monday, I'll have a good talk with Editor-in-Chief Mingda about his ideas.

The day and a half of rest passed in the blink of an eye. During those 36 hours, she didn't go anywhere. She stayed in his apartment. There was no endless entanglement. On the contrary, when the passion was at its peak, he didn't penetrate her. He just held her tightly to his chest.

This made her look at him several times, but she still couldn't figure out what was going on.

on Monday.

After the morning meeting, Lin Zaoyi received a call from her mother asking her to go upstairs to get her household registration booklet. Naturally, she went, having already prepared her answer in her mind.

We will get the marriage certificate, but not today.

I went upstairs, and my mother's assistant, Sister Shan, gave me the household registration booklet.

Sister Shan told her, "President Ming is in a meeting right now."

All right.

Lin Zaoyi decided to come back at noon, but the editor-in-chief of Ming University had a business dinner at noon. She waited and waited, but he didn't come back until 2 p.m., so she gave up.

She had work to do that afternoon; she had to go to the Meng family's.

Just as she was about to arrive, Tan Zhaojing called and asked first, "You're not going to make me go get the certificate, are you?"

He asked, "Do you want to?"

How should I answer that?

"It just felt...it felt sloppy."

"Okay, then I won't take it yet."

His voice sounded a few decibels deeper than before. Was it because he was refusing?

It's similar yet not quite the same.

As I speculated, he asked in a casual tone, "What are you doing?"

"I just arrived at Brother He Nian's place and I have an exclusive interview with him."

As the car reversed in, Lin Zaoyi got out and, half-jokingly, asked, "Mr. Tan, when can I get your exclusive interview?"

There was a half-second silence on the phone, then he said, "Do you want it?"

Lin Zaoyi feigned indifference, saying, "It's alright."

He said, "Give it to me if you want it."

The man answered casually, but her heart skipped a beat.

Unconsciously fidgeting with the steering wheel, he thought, "Are you really going to give it to me?"

He said, "You can ask for more from me."

Her heart pounded again, but she tried to stay calm. "You're not allowed to seduce me. Do you know I have the household registration book and are you deliberately casting bait?"

The computer screen, now darkened, reflected the man's cold, handsome features. His expression was somber, but his voice was gentle. "Is that all the ambition you've got?"

Lin Zaoyi pouted, "You just found out? I'll hang up now, I'll come to the company to find you after I'm done."

It took even less time than expected, mainly because I got to know Brother He Nian well and he was very cooperative with whatever I asked. It only took half an hour.

Finally, she had a personal question. After He Nian nodded, she asked, "Is there a reason why you donated the profits from your pharmaceutical research to the Heart Foundation?"

Meng Henian's illness wasn't sudden. On New Year's Day, Xixi had spoken with him about it, and she intentionally continued to conceal it.

The reason is simple: why make one more person suffer?

He could only go along with it, speaking casually, "It's not normal for capitalists to do charity."

Lin Zaoyi had doubts. Was this the answer?

But since the person involved has already given that answer, how else can she question it?

He nodded. "Then, Brother He Nian, you're busy."

After leaving the office, I headed straight for the parking lot. As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, I ran into Ji Baishen.

Ji Baishen was momentarily dazed. The last time he saw her was probably the day before New Year's Day. Compared to last time, her complexion was even more radiant.

Composing himself and smiling, "An interview?"

Lin Zaoyi nodded, "Mm."

Her phone vibrated in her pocket. She took it out; it was an unfamiliar number, showing a local connection.

The next second after the call connected, an aged yet authoritative voice came through the receiver, "It's me."

Just those two words sent a chill down her spine and made her scalp tingle.

The other person spoke again, giving an address, "I'll wait for you here."

Without giving any chance to refuse, or even a chance to speak, they hung up the phone directly.

Given the timing of the meeting with her grandfather, and the fact that they were outside, there was no need for speculation; all that awaited her was a warning.

She will naturally go; she can't stay hidden under Tan Zhaojing's protection forever.

Before Ji Baishen even entered the elevator, he noticed that the woman's once rosy cheeks had turned deathly pale after a phone call, and his brow furrowed involuntarily. "Is something wrong?"

No response.

She only responded after I called her again, and slowly looked over. "Hmm?"

He shouldn't have asked so many questions, but he couldn't help himself and asked, "Whose call was it?"

The girl in front of him forced a smile. "Mr. Ji, I have something to attend to, so I'll be leaving now."

With a flick of her slender shoulders, she walked straight toward the vehicle.

Ji Baishen frowned even more, staring at the receding figure for a few seconds before taking out his phone to message Meng Henian.

I'll be a little late because of something.

Back in the car, we caught up with the pink tram.

Following the address given by the old man, Lin Zaoyi drove to a teahouse. The antique building exuded elegance and refinement.

Upon seeing her approach, a hostess in a cheongsam smiled and stepped forward, "Do you have an appointment?"

At this moment, an elder dressed in dark blue came over and said, "Zaoyi, come with me."

It's Butler Zhao.

Butler Zhao led her inside, asking, "Have you informed Zhaojing yet?"

Lin Zaoyi shook her head.

Butler Zhao became anxious. "The old man's visit is ill-intentioned. You should call Zhao Jing immediately."

It wasn't that he didn't want to call, but the old man had lost trust in him regarding the two children. Not only did he confiscate his phone, but he was also only notified at the last minute that he was coming here.
